Magic Mouth troubles

Hey people,

I have been experiencing some problems with the use of Magic Mouths! I know how they work, but as soon as I start experimenting with multiple magic mouths and camera options I run into difficulties..

I have a person in the game explaining some stuff to the player.. This dialogue takes place with 4 magic mouths, triggered with a player sensor.. I have hooked up the 4 magic mouths on the sensor in correct order.. However, with the 3rd line (and magic mouth) the person grants the player access to his cellar and the camera changes briefly to this door (the door is actually opened before the dialogue takes place as its hooked up to the same player sensor as well).. After this there is a final line of dialogue and the game continues..

So far so good.. However, in game I cant get it to work.. I have run into the same problem in two instances so far:

The first two lines are shown. But, when the third line starts, the camera changes to the door, waits for 2 seconds and then the scene ends abrubtly.. 2 seconds is too short to read the line of dialogue and the player is not given the option to press circle to read the next and final line which is skipped entirely..

The magic mouths are all set to on/off..

Any idea how to fix this?

So to sum it up: I want to hook up 4 magic mouths to a person, with the third one I want to show a door opening a little distance outside of the scene..

Have you tried using tag sensors instead? That method works well for me.2011-02-12 12:22:00

You could try using a sequencer, there is a tutorial on here for cutscene help, i just viewed it and it helped me alot 2011-02-12 12:32:00

Yeah, try a sequencer.

If you want more precise changes in movement (cameras, mouths, etc.) tweak the sequencer to 1.0 seconds per bar. I have it 4 seconds per bar because each bar is split up into quarters.

Also, on a sequencer, I have the mouths with NO CUTSCENE CAMERA and then the movie cameras playing at the same time. Then the camera can move whilest the mouths are still playing.

If you don't put subtits on when using a sequencer, your mouths will be close-able with O.

Lastly, leave a quarter of a bar at the end of your sequencer. If you don't the last camera will never end. Place a battery on your sequencer when you want something to haooen, in your case, the door opening.
