Firefight VS. by Hexagohn

Archive: 11 posts

Hey everybody, I've spent the past few weeks and many an hour building this VS. game. After having an absolute blast with the rocket game from MM (Pun intended) I knew I wanted to make one myself. So here it is! Originally the plans for the Creatinator were different, but fire is awesome. I had something else in mind for the environment, but a volcano just fits, it was originally a death match game but point giving Hot-Spots was too perfect! Basically nothing went as planned, but I think it all went great. Let me know what you think and I hope you have as much fun playing it as I had making it!

I'll do F4F on at least 10 levels, I dont know if I'll be able to do any extensive reviews past that. But I'm always willing to check something out!

Bump. That's allowed right?

Actually, no, it's not, and for someone who has been here since 2008, you should know better :kz:.
FYI - Unless you are genuinely adding something to the thread we'd ask that you refrain from bumping. I know it can be frustrating when it seems you're not getting responses, but everyone is in the same boat.

OK, man I checked out your level last night in a 4-player rumble.

I like the temporary destruction of environment. It’s a nice touch. With 4-players, though this whole place is entirely on fire A LOT. Also, the far zoom makes it disorienting when you spawn (since there are so many spawns on the screen) and with 4-players like we had you are often dead by the time you find yourself. Since so much is on fire at once the spawns are limited so we found ourselves spawning at the same spawn with each other and just getting spawn killed over and over again.

Also, the lower-left hand bouncepad either never worked or stopped working. I would jump on it and not get launched upwards. It may have happened after it caught fire, but I can’t be sure.

I think a zoomed-on view would benefit a few things. Lower the spawn killing, make you find players to kill, and know right where you are spawning. I mean, there is no real need to see across the entire map, so zooming in so you can see 1/2 the map would make sense.

I think the level can be fun, I looks great and it’s a nicely-built level. Some more elbow grease and it should be solid.

Also, if you don't mind, I updated Dizzy Wheel challenge since you last played (completely retooled it, removed the old one and published as-new) so if you could check it out again it would be much appreciated.

I haven't had a chance to try this multiplayer yet, but I did inspect the level on my own. The first thing that struck me was the design, it's a good looking level. The pads and platforms are well spaced so it felt good getting around, and there are enough of them to keep things interesting. I also like how scoring required you to sit in a designated zone leaving you open to attack, i'll have to try it with some friends. One drawback I saw was you can sit on the top bounce pads and it seems like you can shield yourself there, I don't know if that was a design choice but an alternative you can try is making the volcano a boundary. I can also see the wide camera being an issue with too many players when spawning, maybe you should highlight newly respawned players with holo.

F4F this level please: http://lbp.me/v/xmqpfj

Hey man I just had a run through this, very cool. I like that that there is an actual strategy to winning vs mindless button mashing. Lighting an opponents platform from under their feet is satisfying and controlling a point hub makes you feel like the man lol. The level had a nice look too with the volcano and lava flow. I really enjoyed jumping off a bounce pad, firing into the air and seeing the fireball come raining down a few seconds later! I did not encounter any technical problems so nothing to suggest. Nice work and I hope you get back to creating full scale levels, I am definitely a fan 2011-02-15 19:38:00

Hey thanks for checking this out everybody, RSQ thanks for the suggestions I think your right about the zooming in and the spawn killing is a problem on this level as well as the Rocket Funland VS level. Lighting things on fire makes it a bigger issue though lol so I'll have to look into toning it back a bit. Thanks for the plays and feedback everybody I'll be sure to make it better and let you know.

Thanks OCK for checking it out, I've been wanting to do something more full scale, hopefully I can find the time!

I'll be sure to check out the changes on Dizzy Wheel and let you know RSQ.

Sorry about the illegal bump silver my bad =/ I thought I'd seen it done on here.
