Down the Rabbit Hole

Archive: 4 posts

It's my first level. I kind of just ran with it. I was just having fun with the development and creating some new things. Let me know what you think for making it better. I'll take it an edit it or consider it during my next level. I haven't started the 2nd level yet. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

To be fair, I didn't finish it, but I did try.

What I liked:
- I liked the idea of going from an average house, complete with sackbot into this horrible lethal dimension. It kind of reminded me of the 80's horror film, The Gate.
- I liked the freeform feel of the design. There aren't platforms that seem overly bland, and it's kind of up to the player to figure out how they want to progress.

What I didn't like:
- The house at the beginning could look a lot more cheery and realistic. It would only enhance the juxtaposition, and the "down the rabbit hole" theme. Try using some Global Lighting effects or music. It can do so much for mood, especially when you change it up.
- For the difficulty, which I don't mind, there really needs to infinite checkpoints. The deaths come fast and furious. It's one thing to die, it's another to have to restart the level. So many people will give up and go on to the next thing in this game. I got up to the part with the two stars on elastic and died.

Conclusion:
This has a lot of promise, and I really want to see the rest of it and how it progresses, but at the same time, I don't feel willing to put my time on the line if I think I'm going to have to keep restarting the level. If you change up the checkpoints I'd be more than happy to update my feedback.

And if you'd like to review my level and tell me what you think, I would really appreciate it. Lost in Time (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=48322-Lost-in-Time-(First-Level-Advice-))

I liked:
The design was cool
the grab puzzle part at the beginning was cool
The jump part was cool but I couldn't figure out what to do next

Needs Work:
Don't make the camera change until you have swam through the hole after the first drop when you grab the switch.
If you are going to make the difficulty this steep you should add double or infinite checkpoints.
A longer chain on the first jet pack would help to get to the grapple easier and a checkpoint @ the grapple would be nice.
Once you get onto the sponge and it rockets you up it does not come back down so if you fail there is no way back up and honestly thats as far as I made it because I counldn't figure out where to go after you were in the air.

I liked what I saw quite a bit maybe a little tweaking to help the player along, but it was pretty fun! Message me whenever you tweak it and i will be glad to play.

Please check out my level and let me know what you think You can find it by searching Ninja Odyssey or click the link bellow

I'll definitely check out your level. Thanks for the feedback. I struggled with the checkpoints, I didn't want to make it too easy, but I didn't want it to be difficult. I will go in and correct the level and include those points. Thank you for the feedback, as soon as I get on LBP i'll pull the level and check yours out during breaks from editing.2011-02-12 03:36:00
