How to get colored text and button icons in speech bubbles?
Archive: 16 posts
Does anybody know how to get colored (red?) text in your speech bubbles, and the controller button icons, like is shown in the story mode levels? (My colored text is red, maybe it is for everybody, but that's also my configured player color.) I'm guessing there are text mark up codes for them, especially since MM's Alex Evans said they used the same create kit we have for building the story mode. | 2011-02-11 22:46:00 Author: LittleBigDave Posts: 324 |
They cheated on that part. :C Also, the introduction level where MM crew is presented. We can't add text like in that level. | 2011-02-11 22:47:00 Author: Coconuts Posts: 384 |
They cheated on that part. :C How do we know that for sure? Alex did repeatedly say they had a "no cheating" rule, and even if there might exceptions, it seems like if they are using our create kit to build the level, it would be inconvenient to have to enter that text in some other special tool, and further to store it in the level file in some other way than the standard way they store our text. | 2011-02-11 23:00:00 Author: LittleBigDave Posts: 324 |
They can't make support of different languages without storing the text in an external file. But it's easy for them to make pink text for players, I can't understand why they didn't do it | 2011-02-11 23:04:00 Author: darkphoenix Posts: 97 |
How do we know that for sure? Because it's already known exactly what text codes Mm used to make pink text, and those codes do not work for us. There was a prerelease screenshot from LBP1 of a glitch where practically all of the text in the game was displayed around the InfoMoon, and the pink text was shown to use <em> tags, like this: <em>pink text</em> That being said, being able to use those special text functions is one of my personal most wanted features for LBP. I don't see why they don't let us use them... | 2011-02-11 23:10:00 Author: Blue Helmet Posts: 306 |
They can't make support of different languages without storing the text in an external file. But it's easy for them to make pink text for players, I can't understand why they didn't do it They may have done language support in external files, or they may have just built copies of the story levels with each language already embedded. But either way, it seems like that would amount to determining which string to present in the bubble, and then passing it to a bubble rendering code routine to display it on the screen. And I would think it more likely that they would have one graphics routine for painting the speech bubbles, and not a separate one for their use. I certainly could be wrong, but I guess my point is that I don't see how we can know, and I don't think the most reasonable assumption is that we just can't do it, unless that's been clearly stated by MM. | 2011-02-11 23:13:00 Author: LittleBigDave Posts: 324 |

In LBP2 they also use <em>pink text</em>, I've tried to use it but no luck : | 2011-02-11 23:19:00 Author: chinook3 Posts: 453 |
The text is stored in an external file, actually. Two of the story objects from LBP1 (Grandmaster Sensei and Meerkat Mum) did not have their magic mouths blanked when they were made into objects. If you tweak their magic mouths and examine the text, it's just a code that looks something like "MAIN_AFRICA_56182" or "MAIN_JAPAN_28371". | 2011-02-11 23:19:00 Author: Blue Helmet Posts: 306 |
I don't see why they don't let us use them... They're greedy. The same reason why we didn't have tutorial backgrounds and Mah Advice music(and we still don't have them in LBP1), lava, spongeboard, white matter(it isn't the best material but..) | 2011-02-11 23:19:00 Author: darkphoenix Posts: 97 |
They're greedy. The same reason why we didn't have tutorial backgrounds and Mah Advice music(and we still don't have them in LBP1), lava, spongeboard, white matter(it isn't the best material but..) but we do have white matter... Being able to custom cut stickers would be high on my list. edit: and actually, I'm pretty sure I've seen a community level with the tutorials background. | 2011-02-11 23:23:00 Author: LittleBigDave Posts: 324 |
but we do have white matter... Not light matter, white matter. And don't answer to this part because I don't want this thing to infect another thread Being able to custom cut stickers would be high on my list. Agree. But I think they'll never do it because people will take photos of DLC stickers and cut them. edit: and actually, I'm pretty sure I've seen a community level with the tutorials background I said we didn't have them, we have them in LBP2 | 2011-02-11 23:29:00 Author: darkphoenix Posts: 97 |
What's odd is that if you type into the box, it works (It'll put the text on a new line). So why doesn't <em>? | 2011-02-11 23:30:00 Author: alexbull_uk Posts: 1287 |
Okay, just found the prerelease screenshot. Here it is. (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3050/2944518845_440eba81a0_o.png) Also, something else I noticed: there's text for a beta "Seaside Theme" (probably what the cut beach background was from), and a corresponding beta IntMusic called "English Seaside IntMusic". | 2011-02-11 23:41:00 Author: Blue Helmet Posts: 306 |
Thousands of them! Also, something else I noticed: there's text for a beta "Seaside Theme" (probably what the cut beach background was from), and a corresponding beta IntMusic called "English Seaside IntMusic". Where? | 2011-02-11 23:47:00 Author: darkphoenix Posts: 97 |
To the left of the InfoMoon. Anyway, back on topic, I think we should seriously start a petition for Mm to give us pink text. | 2011-02-11 23:50:00 Author: Blue Helmet Posts: 306 |
