theres a simple way to make rain in LBP2
many people know how to make rain but for those who dont know how heres a little tutorial.
First of all put out a piece of dark or light matter now take out a round piece of cardboard.
then take out another round or square cardboard make it very thin and put it infront of the first round piece of cardboard. now to the thick piece of carboard attach 3 emitters and put them to emit on speed 0.0 and make it water bubbles.Make the water bubbles fall down in the 3 different layers thats why the 3 emitters. Now attach the thin "square" with a motorized bolt and set it on speed 650 and then take a stiff piston and attach between the piece of matter and the square of carboard and mix with it til you get your good rain effect!:star:

Emitting a lot of water bubbles together causes serious lag. Not worth the trade off IMO. Better to mirror glitch the water material for a transparency effect, and place a large sheet of it on the front thin layer. Gives a lovely rain effect at little cost to thermo.2011-02-11 16:19:00

What is this Mirror Glitch you speak of?

I think he's talking about getting out a small piece of the watery glass material, place it, then enlarge to about your screen size. Then you cut a very small square out of it and delete the rest. Make the small square really big again and keep doing the same thing until you see the look of the material turn mirror like.2011-02-11 20:50:00

I made something like that, but what I did was to have 2 - 6 emitors emitting small water using the randomizer, every 2 emitors have it's own randomizer for heavier rain effects, my setup is also have the rain sound effect and a light global changer, all triggered when player is in range and maybe make a object showcase thread some time.2011-02-13 00:15:00

The bubbles material made barely visable gives an awesome rain effect aswell, the options are limited with this though..2011-02-13 20:22:00

Combined with a large rocket engine off screen, the exhaust adds a nice dirty wind effect to make a really awesome storm.

Though to be honest I think the smoke emitter might be able to make a decent rain effect with some tweaking, for a fraction of the lag!

I think there's another way of doing this. something like you take a water bullet or waterfall material and put an antigravity tweaker on it. then it makes a mirror. I'm not exactly sure, I just know there's another way. It was discovered in the beta and there's a video of it on youtube. check it out.

Hey, what about the rain in that Heavy Rain level from the beta or the Lost level. How was that done

For the map I'm making at the moment I used the water and the waterfall material to create the effect of rain. Using the glass material as well to reduce the lag, in make it look like its raining heavier.

The other thing I do is connect all the emitters to wire combiners and a counter. Have a player/tag sensor hooked up to the + on the wire combiner to turn on the rain which is hooked to a counter to keep the emitters going. Then hook a tag/player sensor to the reset button on the counter to stop it raining.

So I do this in sections, so its only raining in the area your in. Works great

I just use a long peice of hologram connected to a peice of darkmatter by a super fast piston so it slapps water thus making a constant "splash effect" that looks just like rain2012-11-05 16:45:00
