DCZ: direct control zone.

You enter the zone and some (not all) user inputs are hijacked. For instance, you could enter a zone that takes away the grab ability (R1) and uses that input to set off an explosive. Or it takes control of the shape buttons to do one of those "press this button really fast" things that other games do. But without placing the sackboy in a DCS. It would work well in a level that is semi-cut scene.

It could also just take the inputs but still let sackboy do his thing.

I would just replace you sackboy with a sackbot using DCS. The player never gets to know that he is a sackbot, if you do it right.
Then from the sackbots DCS you can take the controlls and also disable them, see this question of mine (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=47825-Remotely-controlled-Sackbot-How-to-disable-desired-buttons&p=762626#post762626) if you dont know how to do that.
Now you can just use ordinary makers and place a sensor on the sackbot you controll. When he gets close to the disred marker, some controlls are removed and others are given.
This is shurely not as eays as the method you suggested, but if you got a project running and want to continue it, do it that way

The grabbable option can be done - if you stick down material tweakers, then you can tweak them to be not grabbable. Then, just turn them on and off as you please.
In terms of the DCS, you can tweak it set to "nearest player". This means you can change button conifgurations to make things like tapping a button fast, but without the need for the sackboy to enter a DCS.
