Maximum Carnage - 1-4 Player coop shooter

Archive: 17 posts

Reign carnage and destruction to everything in your path.

The in-game description and help explains most of the basics. R1 to shoot your main laser, L1 to throw a grenade, and L2 to fire a homing missile.

There is no friendly fire with the laser but explosions WILL kill your teammates. Also keep an eye open for weak walls that you can blow apart with explosives.

I have this level queued now, and will play it and review it within 24 hours.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to access a computer that often, so I am only able to post reviews of your level on the Little Big Planet 2 game. Having said this, I will post a good review with honest opinions and suggestions.

Hope you don't mind, apologies for any inconvenience.

In return, could you please play and review my level in my signature.
When you review it, I don't mind if you post a review on this website or the game, but if you don't mind, I'd prefer the review to be in game, but either works.

Thanks, apologies once again for any inconvenience!

Much appreciated.

Marvelous Foofles! This was I want from a multyplayer LBP2 shooter.
Good:
- great gameplay mechanics
- nice challenge
- fun with & without other players
- I love the blue laser floor

Bad:
- this isn't really a gameplay complain. I just thought that the boss was just... to random. The fight works and plays really well but his sudden appearance & look surprised me. This isn't a major bad thing, only a really little one

Suggestions:
- reduce the number of usable missiles and grenades. They're just to spamable. Even when you play alone
- maybe make the damaged shield effect a bit less flashy?
- give the boss a much bigger health. Has something to do with the first suggestion

I hope my feedback will be of use. I liked and hearted the level. Lots of love, blizzard! <3

Thanks for the feedback

Yeah I was always worried about it being too easy, but I also didn't want to make it too hard. I'll examine difficulty balancing as I get feedback and either update this or adjust the next game.

As for the random boss - it's me you're talking about

I republished with updates - List of fixes:

Issue with not all players spawning at start should be fixed

This is an excellent level, added to hearted! I loved the little touches like the footsteps, sort of like the original GTA games. The basic gameplay mechanics are excellent, didn't have any problems with them, and what an appropriate level title - maximum carnage indeed! I loved the huge robots, a lot of fun to blow them up. My only disappointment was the final boss - there are solid circles on the left and right hand side, they looked cosmetic to me but maybe they had another purpose, but the homing missiles seemed to keep hitting them and blowing me up if I strayed too close. Just a minor point, otherwise I wouldn't change anything, perfect difficulty level as well. Can't wait to check it out in multiplayer!

Check out my level in my signature for F4F if you get the chance, thanks

Foofles, that was AMAZING!

I love this stuff (and I'm eagerly anticipating another Corridors of Madness) and you have to keep making more to keep people like me sane!!!

Anyway, in the most sane fashion possible:

Pros:

- Everything
- You (pro )
- Weapons are really effective and fun
- Enemies are good and there's a nice variety of them
- Everything
- THE BOSS IS SICK! Maybe being obsessed with bunnies isn't abad thing after all....

So I hearted, left a short review of 'IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT LIKE THIS!!!' (which really sums up your level for me) and left to play some more amazing Unnamed Levels.

That deserves a Mm Pick!

All the best,

- Mr. Peas

This was simply a blast to play. It was good chaotic fun. I loved all the elements that you put into this. All the ammo the health bars and power ups all that good stuff. It's impressive to me to have so many different elements of gameplay. I couldn't make a level with that much logic and complexity at least not yet. Anyway, the visuals were great, the enemies looked really cool and I liked the variety of them.

One thing i would have like is to have a unique character to control instead of just sackboy from top down with a decoration that looks like a gun.

A lot of details in this level and it shows how much work went into this. Oh yeah, the boss battle was pretty sweet. Had that old-school feel to it. Great job as always.

If you get the chance, try "Jersey S'mores for F4F. Thanks.

This is one of the best top-down shooters in LBP so far! A few minor problems, though; you can shoot enemies without them noticing you, which makes the game very easy. You should turn down the lifespan of bullets, or increase the awareness radius of enemies. Another thing I'd like to see is automatic fire. Maybe you could add a 'cooldown period', to stop people spamming this.

Apart from that, the graphics were great, and the controls were spot on! Smiled and hearted!

My F4F level is in my sig, if you want to try it.

I just played this a few hours ago, very good level!
I love how all of the computers and terminals are destructible and the robots were all very well-designed.
The decoration layer glitch makes the characters gun look a little odd though, but whatever.
Overall, a fantastic level and it seems like a huge improvement from the beta version, good work!
Here's my F4F level, check it out!

I've played it, and I've pretty much nothing more to say than what's been said above.

Side note - do you remember me, Foofles? I'm the fellow that messaged you about your videos helping me. XD

Anyway, although I don't have much more to say than what's been said above, I guess I must for the post to have more meaning..:

-Gameplay's fast, but works smoothly
-Multiplayer's prob. a big plus, but I haven't done multiplayer that much. :
-Lots of things are destroyable - interactive environments are good.
-Got a rendition of Bunny Metal from LBP2 Beta for the boss song.. I liked that song, it's a pity that it was deleted. Hope you can get the full version back up soon.

Negatives:
-Way too much Missile and Grenade ammo. While it's fun shooting so much, it makes the game easier than it already is. XD
Yeah, that's probably it for the negatives.

Anyway, a play and (ingame) review from you over my levels would be a big boon, and I'd really appreciate it! Thread links:

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, I will get around to checking everyone's stuff when I can, it is all queued.

Enemy awareness is difficult to tweak because I don't want them ganking people when they're far offscreen and the game has a slightly different field of view between SD and HD TVs.

Derejin; I already tried some of your iron man stuff but I'll look at the other thing. As for bunny metal, yes this is a sort of new version of it as the boss song. I am happy with this version and am not going to bring back the version that was in the beta, this one is much cleaner rhythmically and less repetitive.

I updated this slightly last night with a little less health and a longer recharge period on the shields. I also made the boss more aggressive; shorter durations for the charging and firing of his heavy laser attack, and he is more aggressive with the fireballs and eye lasers.

Both of these will be a series of some kind. I have a few things lined up but I do not have much time lately to play.

I happened to play this level with a friend of mine, and it is epic.

VISUALS:
The bird's eye view is really good, and the Level design is really cool too. The scene where the boss appears and explodes is outstanding. My only suggestion though is that at the beginning, the camera seems to be lowered a bit, covering the remaining energies a bit.

SOUND:
Good music choice at the beginning of the level. Very creative boss battle music and amazing sounds.

GAMEPLAY:
The usage of the controlinator is really good. The co-op gameplay works too.

OVERALL:
It's an outstanding level with excellent co-op and boss battle. A yeah vote and a heart.

hi foofles, it's a great feeling to speak with you i'm a big fan of your skills and levels
let's see if i can do a feedback you can use...

- the tutorial was nice placed and good to read, no timer so i was able to read if i like. good!
- good to place some non-back-shooting stuff on the beginning, also well done! so you can practice a bit
- the controlls are amazing! everything works how it should and it feels like something! not like all this "demo what i can do with my bot" - levels
- i love how the checkpoints are animated
- my absolut fave on this level is the blue dangerous ground. amazing
- ok only topped from the boss! (of course!)
- sad to see that even you haven't found a way yet to shut down the emitted water sound, still searching a good working way.
- i love the system that you need to shoot the flying fire of the boss first or you get killed, you really thought something if you created this
- the flying... angel like butterflys looked very beautyfull!
- i was not able to find any bugs... of course not i guess you got lots of feedbacks ingame - heh

god job and well deserved mm pick of course

rating: heart and yay, also a user heart. (again)
no other words needed

if you still do the F4F here than plz go to the "skunk bunny adventures: swifown chronicles" link in my signature.
would be amazing if you help me with a short review/feedback to make my level better! ^^ thank you!

I like levels that show what's possible with LBP2's expansive toolset, and this is one of those levels. It has very solid gameplay - passable for retail titles - and coherent presentation, but what it does best in my opinion is show us how to make a compact yet sufficiently informative heads-up display. I used to be a big fan of isometric or top-down strategic shooters (think Jagged Alliance), and the way this level is presented instantly made me want to see it done with a turn-based system and action points, just for those nostalgic flashbacks. Seeing your level in action gives me hope that such a project is not a hopeless undertaking in LBP2.

While the visuals and left nothing to be desired, I'd like to point out some ideas that could make the gameplay a bit better:
- Most of the hostile security bots or turrets were killable from outside their awareness radius without fear of retaliation, making the level very easy. Now I know most younger players would prefer it this way, because ragequitting when you lose a life is sadly all too common in LBP2 nowadays, but there's always those of us who grew up playing games that had you trying to get past a single screen for 30 minutes in especially unforgiving titles on Commodore 64 (like Pharaoh's Curse or Bruce Lee), and we're not so easily put off by challenge.
- Even though the sound of footsteps goes a long way toward selling the illusion of walking, seeing Sackboy slide around in a controlinator ruined a bit of the immersion - I'd personally prefer a mech or armored suit around him instead, but I guess this is also a creative choice
- The level itself was a bit on the short side, making it feel like a tech demo of what's possible using this gameplay mechanic. Perhaps you had thermo issues?
- The amount of grenades and missiles received is far too generous IMO, it makes trivial work of the security bots, and just by unleashing a full stock of both on the boss I was able to take him down without firing a single normal shot.
- This is kind of a personal preference once again, but I think the level would benefit from a more zoomed-out camera. It would allow for more planning - and thus an increase in difficulty - when Sackboy has to go around corners, since you could see what's actually there in advance, and it would also make the mini-HUD much cooler IMO (but I'm probably just saying this because I liked them so much in past strategic shooters ).

All in all, this is an excellent example of what's possible when someone blessed with both artistic and programming qualities gets behind the pod computer and uses the LBP2 create toolset well. Yay-ed and hearted, and a Mm pick well deserved. Here's hoping we'll see more levels like this soon. Great job!

If you could take the time to look at my F4F level in my sig in return, I'd appreciate it a lot. Cheers!
