Can someone video a level for my school?

Archive: 13 posts

I'm a schoolteacher. I teach English as a foreign language to kids in Hong Kong. On Monday, I have to entertain the younger students (5-7 years) for 10 minutes in the morning assembly. That'll be Valentine's day. I have a story I'm going to tell them. It's an incredibly simple story that can be told in incredibly simple English.

Today, some of the students drew pictures for the story. They didn't learn any details of the plot - I just told them things that would be in it (characters, items, scenery), and they drew them. They've taken them home to colour them in. I collect the pictures tomorrow.

On Friday evening and possibly Saturday, I'm either going to scan the pictures, photoshop them together into illustrations, and make a powerpoint presentation to show along with the story; Or I'm going to use a Playstation Eye to turn their drawings into LBP stickers, stick them on bits of cardboard, and tell the story as an LBP cutscene.

They'd go nuts to see their drawings brought to life like that.

But for the LBP option to work, I'd need someone to convert the level to video for me. I don't have the means, and neither does the school. I could play it directly off my PS3, but this is not yet a school where I could get the senior staff to accept the idea of a games console used for education. Please let's not discuss what we think of that attitude... let's change it instead.

Sorry that it's such a small time frame to work in. I'm in Hong Kong which is +8 GMT, the level wouldn'tt be ready before Saturday morning and I'd need the video by Sunday night my time. I only just thought of it while the kids were drawing in class.

If anyone can help, I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread. I'd give preference to anyone I've worked with before as that would be more efficient.

Thank you!

Hmm, I don't have any means of recording, but do know a few people that may be able to help, I'll try to tell them about this, see if they can.

This is now about the 4th thread I can recall where either a teacher or a student uses LBP in educational pourposes, which is really nice, makes you think how the old "Videogames aren't educational" saying seems to be fading away, doesn't it?

Baahhh, I wish I had a camera to help you with thats awesome =/ hopefully one of silverleon's people come through for you. I could potentially borrow my friends video camera as well but the quality would be pretty bad. If thats something you end up wanting me to try though just let me know.2011-02-10 07:33:00

Hi Steadler, thanks for your offer. I'll take you up on it!

I've just collected the students' work, and have a bit of doubt about whether it'll work well or not. I'll need to get some good lighting when I capture the drawings, or I might have to ink them in (I'd rather leave their work untouched).

Let me know if you'd prefer to communicate over PSN, PMs on here, or email. I'm happy working with any of those.

Also, if possible, I may reccomend "re-mastering" the drawings in LBP, as even the best PS cam stickers may lok a bit iffy, speciallt if it has small details.2011-02-11 10:30:00

You may have to direct me to an FAQ on 're-mastering'. The images are incredibly iffy, and prohibitively so. Might have to call it off and use Flash instead if I can't de-iffify them 2011-02-11 13:30:00

I can film.

I have a good Cap Card but Steadler beat me to asking you...

I think what he means by re-mastering is you re-make the image using the corner editor on LBP. Like you put your image on a piece of card and then re-draw it next to the image.

I think that's what he meant.....

I think Keanster96 and Strangepom used this to make those accurate Pipe Dreams stickers for their Sacktastic: PTTS: contest entries.

Oh is that remastering? Not sure the kids would feel as much gratification from it as they would seeing their own illustrations.

I've scanned the images, and I'll use flash to animate them instead. I guess it was the better option all along, but the craftworld look of LBP would have been very stylish.

Thanks all round to everyone who's offered help and advice. Sorry it hasn't come to much.

You're welcome!

You can tyr and use your PS Eye but you'd get it better with Re-mastering.

Good luck!
