Get Well Soon, General Chat!

So I've been noticing that, with the big income of new people to LBPC, we are getting a lot of threads that just. . .guys, I am dissapoint. Yes of course General Chat is for chatting. . .in general, but I think it's crossed a line when the threads are just plain terrible, or repeats. Just as a quick General Chat guide, threads like these get locked/spammed: Love: Most anything to do with it, Advice, Tips, Help (all of these are basically the same but whatever). Religion: That's a nuke right there. Science: Sometimes there are some good discussions on it, smart people posting on there and you actually learn some times. Group Threads: "Join my 1337 group! It promises nothing and our clan is something off of Naruto!" "No." Favorite [blank]: Usually gets mass posts, but it gets boring after a while. Just Plain Stupid: "I was scratching my back just a few seconds ago, when I saw Jesus in my Alka Seltzer." Repeat Threads: 'Artists Unite!' 'Artists Unite!' 'Artists Untie' 'Last thread was misspelled so I made another to correct the spelling!" but then again, this might just be me, and only me, getting tired of seeing stupid things on LBPC. Just my Opinion/Voice on the matter at hand. Anyone feel the same? | 2011-02-10 03:55:00 Author: Unknown User |
The saddest and most ironic part its that this is probably one of the best threads in GC atm...(Not original tho, these threads pop now and then on different sections. Actually...that's not good at all...) | 2011-02-10 04:12:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |

chat is chat it's bound to get screwed up one way or another Heh, If you meant it that way, then that's a pretty sneaky joke right there. If you didn't mean it that way, then ask Bremnen, hell understand. | 2011-02-10 08:42:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Well, though I agree 100% with what Inan says, I reckon it's up to everyone to keep the quality of the discussions worthy and the place clean. What I think is that the heads should remove the exp system from the General Chat too...because people opens topic here even to rack up points. | 2011-02-10 09:30:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
chat is chat it's bound to get screwed up one way or another Oh gawd, where is this going? Heh, If you meant it that way, then that's a pretty sneaky joke right there. If you didn't mean it that way, then ask Bremnen, hell understand. Oh no, it went there.. All chats do go bad eventually. They get spammed alot at different times in their existence, stupid people are always in them, some nights there'll be drunks doing who knows WHAT in it, drugs are usually present in some form, and you're bound to see a troll every once in a while. Someone always trys to clean it up but no matter how many times you empty it, it always gets dirty again. Maybe if they could be filtered to keep out the trash and only let in competent people there would be some hope that they wouldn't turn to rot after a while. And what comes out of them is even worse! The end product of a bad chat is a plague. That is why it is up to the user to decide if the chat is worth the time. If it isn't, move on to another. You'll be doing everyone else a favor by keeping the filth of a bad chat from leaking out and spreading everywhere. After a long enough period all chats become unused and die out anyway. Read between the lines. For those of you who took this post seriously, you are blind. It is one giant subliminal joke that few of you will recognize, but people from the lbpc lbp2 psn chat will understand. | 2011-02-10 09:43:00 Author: Bremnen Posts: 1800 |

It would be near impossible to make a list of what would be great topics for general chat, so I suggest put it out of it's misery and turn it into a love, religion, science, group thread, favorite, just plain stupid, and repeat threads section instead. That way No one will ever waste another minute of their precious time reading a " going nowhere, now thank me " thread about nothing. | 2011-02-10 11:59:00 Author: KILLA_TODDZILLA Posts: 653 |
What I suggest is that the rules about the section gets rewritten, and that stupid thread can be reported, with a 1 point infraction for opening stupid threads... Then it's up to the people who write, to say things using the brain... That doesn't mean to be serious and not funny, but only not opening the mouth just to pollute the air with bulls*** I'm the first that says stupid things...but it's just because it's getting annoying lately... | 2011-02-10 12:16:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
And who is to be the judge of good taste and "competance" then? No offense, but I wouldn't trust a single one of you to be a "competant" judge of good taste | 2011-02-10 12:48:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |

Well in general chat people basicly talk whats in their minds, but in a forum that has rules well yeah I agree in a way...but from everything ive seen, I see everythings talkable in this part of the forum, so I mean why fix something thats not broken ^_____^ Freedom of Speech and expressing ourselves anyway we want, thats one thing that makes us human, and I mean on this forum were all human not anything else....I think XD LOL but well yeah. I guess some threads are really silly But you cant deny some are super funny to read . Sometimes thats all we need, to just joke around saying God talked to us and asked for a Beer. I mean right? XD If were to serious all your life your gonna get old to soon v_v, In a way I agree but in another way Im pretty sure you know what I mean, and it should be left how it is cause well to me theres nothing wrong with it . And heres a random video that might make your day!! XD (some of it is spanish btw) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rMWpC9V-MY I forgot to edit...the whole expresing ourselves thing..I have to add I know not some of us think that way cause of different beliefs or relgiion or something I forgot to add >_<. Bottom Line is---> This is general chat, putting rules in a place like this is like putting rules in how to live, what to say, how to do things, one thing is being wrong in our acts and what we say without thinking about consequences but another is setting rules, in having a strict way to live or express yourself whenever you want, your opinions for example...what would they be then?....What If I said right now, This chat place is getting wrong cause your setting rules and being to serious etc?... Makes you think right? | 2011-02-10 14:21:00 Author: Bloo_boy Posts: 1019 |
And who is to be the judge of good taste and "competance" then? No offense, but I wouldn't trust a single one of you to be a "competant" judge of good taste How I have learned to loathe your posts~ <3 Like I said, this is just me voicing my opinion, if other people are gonna post in this thread things like "We need to clean up GC" that's all them. I don't care enough for GC to make up new rules and whatnot. I also agree with your statement, no one in GC, NO ONE is capable of having a 'good taste', not even mods sometimes. But whatever~ | 2011-02-10 16:53:00 Author: Unknown User |
In all my time here I've never seen a topic about Generals in General Chat. | 2011-02-10 16:57:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
And who is to be the judge of good taste and "competance" then? No offense, but I wouldn't trust a single one of you to be a "competant" judge of good taste And it's more than fair, but just to avoid the love threads, the favourite "kind of bird thread" and the stuff like that... That's obvious stuff to kill, it can go on fun for like 10 posts, then it's destined to die. | 2011-02-10 16:59:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
First of all, I lol'd when I read the OP. And that's not a good thing this time, because it was ridiculous (I could say why but I prefer to not too). Pointless threads you say? Well that really came from the right person. I disagree with you inan, I'm with Bloo_boy on this one. If you (all of you that is complaining) really think it's that bad then don't visit General Chat, or you could make "interesting" threads that you like. If no one is making a read worthy thread, then why complain if you haven't made any yourself? Think about that. And another think, some of you complain in the threads "omgz tis been made 5 times before" and then followed by 6 other posts about that. We do, y'know, got this thing called "Report Post" button under every post and is just waiting for you to click it when you find a duplicate thread, offensive, spam or whatever negative reason. Use it instead of making a big deal out of everything in the thread. 100% agreed with you Bloo. Thank you! Well, though I agree 100% with what Inan says, I reckon it's up to everyone to keep the quality of the discussions worthy and the place clean. What I think is that the heads should remove the exp system from the General Chat too...because people opens topic here even to rack up points. EXP and reputation should be removed everywhere in the forum. EXP is just silly points and rep is just basically ranking people. Rep doesn't even make sense without negative rep, you can only get good rep which makes everyone look like a good person or all your post seems good. 1 infraction points for a "stupid" thread? What? Everyone got different opinions on what's stupid, you might think a thread is stupid while someone else love it. Well I do agree that people should just re-think and/or re-read about what they are going to post and maybe not make something like "i love big chocolates bars". And then again, some people who makes thread forget about trying to search if a topic like it already exist. Well if they found a very old thread that is like their thread, it might not be the best to bump it. And if someone bumps a thread, then don't complain about it, again use the repor button. TL;DR I don't like cheese. In all seriousness read the post I'm not making this shorter. | 2011-02-10 17:20:00 Author: Alec Posts: 3871 |

its new users bro, like me... be ez on meh! No. New ≠ Excuse to make stupid threads. This is a family site, so, why the hell would you make a Gun thread? Sure we talk about CoD, but that's a game, not real life. Also, I will not be easy on people that don't take the time to spell correctly. :l | 2011-02-10 17:33:00 Author: Unknown User |

Interesting. Haven't really visited GC a great deal but, I do agree with the basic premise of Alec and Bloo_Boy's argument, that freedom of speech is something to be valued and respected. When you start start restricting peoples freedom to express themselves, your starting down a very dark path, the end destination of which should be pretty obvious to anyone with a basic grasp of social politics. I think one of the big problems is the age differential between members. My understanding is that a great many players of LBP are quite young. Their interests, and how they choose to express them, will at times, be at odds with the more mature members. But the fact is, they have as much right to be here as anyone else. Yes, every forum needs control, but control tempered with a certain amount of sensitivity and understanding. There's an onus on regular members to be part of that process, to try and guide conversation in the right direction, to try and impart on newer, or younger members, what is acceptable behavior, and what is not. The "zero tolerance" approach to moderation however is not, in my opinion, with keeping in the spirit of fun that the Little Big Planet series embodies so well. "Lol" is not a dirty word. | 2011-02-10 18:24:00 Author: Snake Mountain Posts: 84 |
I've noticed the same kind of deal with news threads, many times. Things like "LBP2 announced for January 18!" when the original thread autoposted by Spaff came up 3 days ago. It's really annoying. Just look at News and Media and you'll find examples of duplicate news threads, many of which seem to be because either the poster didn't know it was already posted, or he's just plain lazy. Seriously, people need to start reading around here before they post. | 2011-02-10 18:31:00 Author: Unknown User |

if this section bothers ppl so much, how about just leaving it alone. do something else/dont visit it. I personally find no relevance in the psp forum (since i dont have lbp for psp), yet I am not crying for someone to kill it. | 2011-02-10 20:52:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |
Snake_mountains post pretty much answered the whole thread... But last thing I will say and Im sure everyone agrees, wether its a age difference...different beliefs...different ways of expressing yourself, it doesnt change the fact that we can all do what we want, of Course "With Responsibilty" I mean..the gun thread...why is a gun such a bad thing? I mean...Ive seen perfectly decent familys that own a gun, Licensed, for protection. When you think about it that way...a gun isnt such a bad thing..of course it still "reflects" bad things sometimes. But Inamacy i will humbly say to you and everyone that, theres no rules for people to be a specific way and you understand this is offensive to some people right?... ok what If I say... "Dear General Chat...get Happy soon, cause your full of serious, dull, boring, cold, joykilling threads", it would offend other people out there see? The way you wrote the OP...idk it just...it bothers me but well thats your opinion and I cant change it, no one can. But Just think.. just think that... Its not right..its like some kind of Bully attitude, I wont write much cause I dont wanan offend anyone but this is just silly.. and im sure people agree. Just let people talk about whatever they want here and if something bothers you, wether its a thread about idk a random joke, Aliens or somethig like LBP3, if it bothers you, just ignore it, its just as simple as that. | 2011-02-10 21:27:00 Author: Bloo_boy Posts: 1019 |
Well, it's better than constant joke posts. :/ Bloo_boy is right, you dont need to pay any attention to said threads. Posting "simpsons did it!" just bumps the thread for more people to see. | 2011-02-11 01:02:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |

Horray for elitism and arguments! Now, it seems every forum I visit is like this, admittedly that's not a large number but ignoring that, this "degrading of standards" is nothing new. In fact it doesn't exist at all. Everyone just likes to say how it was better in "the good ol' days" when "you weren't here, Jonny" "Why won't you go away Jonny?" " We don't want you here" *sobs* | 2011-02-11 07:21:00 Author: JonnysToyRobot Posts: 324 |

Being new to a forum doesn't equal being dumb on common sense. Even when new to forums, I always try to avoid spammy/ dumb threads if possible, if I do make one after being pointed out it was, I will call out a mod to delete the thread if I do not have the ability to do so. Not simply go "lolololol I'm new, so w/e, not ma fault." If longevity and post count = intelligence, then it would mean Rocksauron's a genius that never makes pointless threads, and we all know that's not true. (No offence, RAWK.) Few new members make good interesting threads, why? They use common sense, so try to do that as well at the very least, instead of just thinking, "I'm new, it doesn't matter" will ya guys? Sure, an odd spammy thread is fun everty once in a while, but when we have 5-per day everyday...its just sad. | 2011-02-11 10:41:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Well, since the word general is used in the forum title, I don't really think that there's much to fuss about. I can obviously see that many people are just looking for a nice little conversation, which I don't really mind no matter how stupid, as long as it's appropriate. (Duh!) Since this site was started long ago (I think) there isn't really much to talk about. No super fantabulous events, no world disasters in mind, and definately (Sorry if I spelled it wrong) none of those really good threads. (What happened to that delicious cookie recipe thread?!?!?! LOL) EDIT: I have no idea how to clean up GC. Lots of [new] members means lots of threads. Just a part of life. | 2011-02-11 19:30:00 Author: FEAR Posts: 337 |

When posting, Alt + F4 to spell check. Correct, but that's only the half of it. Sometimes, if you have a virus infected computer, this can cause a glitch which closes the window. The only way to fix this is to delete the infected file, called System 32. Try it sometimes, it worked for me! | 2011-02-13 23:06:00 Author: Voltergeist Posts: 1702 |

The only way to fix this is to delete the infected file, called System 32. Try it sometimes, it worked for me! And if anything goes wrong during that process, you can undelete System 32 by taking a magnet to your hard drive. Causes a glitch which makes the whole system go back a few processes. | 2011-02-13 23:20:00 Author: Patronus21 Posts: 266 |

I am not surprised that a thread like this could become a hostile thread filled with poison and judgement. no offense but this thread was just a very bad idea and I am surprised a Mod hasnt noticed and killed it. | 2011-02-14 03:15:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |
Create a thread to acknowledge the problem of cancerous posters, instead end up bringing one into the discussion. http://www.globalresearch.ca/articlePictures/Mission-accomplished.jpg | 2011-02-14 03:38:00 Author: Voltergeist Posts: 1702 |
If it's any consolation, in creating a thread regarding the staleness of GC, you have in the process created one of the most amusing conversations recently posted. | 2011-02-14 04:28:00 Author: Astrosimi Posts: 2046 |
Don't pull Naruto into this :kz: Anyway, I agree with both parts, one being that the general chat tends to be repetitive to an extent where you want to cry, the other that people are allowed to speak as they may. Now, I would rather have a best of both worlds, instead of always making new threads, there are old ones already out there which you can revive, nothing wrong in that. When it comes to the free speech/typing (?) stuff I say there still should be some consideration before jumping off a cliff. Look before you leap! I have nothing against posting the occasional joke with context to the conversation, partly because I do it myself (trololol), but I always try to be as funny as possible while never lashing out on others (too much). Neither am I afraid to post long replies, but only to conversations that earns them... EDIT: I just wanted to mention that I am pretty fond of the xp system, especially the rep bars, they tell you that someone has been here for long and therefore they should know a thing or two... Of course that does not count everyone, but I won't mention names. That is at least what my views on it. Of course, I do always enjoy to look at another added rep bar, but I am not crazy about it, as some may be. People should realize they ought to be the kind of spiriter for living people up. Nothing is more satisfactory than receiving another thanks because you helped someone out! | 2011-02-14 10:39:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
Don't pull Naruto into this :kz: Lol, what? Somehow I find these type of comments derail threads. But isn't my comment already doing that? How ironic! | 2011-02-15 02:42:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |
Lol, what? Somehow I find these type of comments derail threads. But isn't my comment already doing that? How ironic! Group Threads: "Join my 1337 group! It promises nothing and our clan is something off of Naruto!" "No." There you go, that's what I meant. | 2011-02-15 08:37:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
So I read this thread and, *ahem* @Frustrated lints etc...: Seriously, this topic isn't about people becoming yee greet Overlords of the Internet just cos they have got a bit of rep. This is about people who are not so experienced at posting to use some common sense. Just take that into account and after few sensible posts people will respect you much more. :/ | 2011-02-15 21:01:00 Author: PygmyOwl Posts: 1316 |
I'm new here and maybe should have been more attentive of this discussion, but elsewhere where I regular (a considerably smaller community), we have a separate Spam section to draw attention away from General Chat. People can do whatever they want there, just start threads full of nonsense, but it doesn't increase their post count. It draws attention away from the General Chat (Just Chillin' in this case) but allows people to post what they want. We also have a different section for more serious discussion, but that isn't needed, since everything else here pretty much is about LBP (understandably). You can also consolidate, say, relationship or love into a single thread, so as to save space. If you get someone important on your side, it helps, since you can move anything that isn't needed to Spam. But really the worst this issue presents is a lot of unpopular or unneeded threads hanging around, which isn't the worst thin that could happen. | 2011-02-15 21:15:00 Author: thecatreturns123 Posts: 84 |
well as much in favor of freedom of speech as I am, I wouldn't go so far as to enable these types of threads by giving them their own section, I just think we should be more tolerant of them because tolerance is good. | 2011-02-15 21:18:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |

Yes yes, your freedom of speech is important blah blah blah. We're NOT telling you to not post, we're saying, don't post stupid ****. If your speech is nothing but stupid crap, then maybe you shouldn't have freedom of speech. As discussed in the mod policy overhaul thread, we should bring back the spam can. | 2011-02-16 00:22:00 Author: Unknown User |
Science: Sometimes there are some good discussions on it, smart people posting on there and you actually learn some times. Plus the fact I started a general scientific discussion thread MONTHS ago that everyone who's posting on science can go to Maybe we need to be able to mark threads "brilliant", "good", "meh" and "n00bs in here, don't bother looking" as well as the star ratings. | 2011-02-16 00:33:00 Author: Weretigr Posts: 2105 |

I dont like spam/stupid posts. so I am contradicting myself, sort off. If you look back through history you will find many people who agree with your statement I put in bold type, but they have all been dictators and oppressors. I was trying to be nice but to be completely honest that statement disgusts me. | 2011-02-16 01:18:00 Author: EinRobot Posts: 739 |

... and then a Mr. "someone" will be banned. I kid, I kid. I don't even pay attention to whatever goes on in General Chat anymore. It's like a Spam-Can only with more trolling and less spamming. But whatever. Not my problem. That's the whole point of this thread: to reverse the progress this section has made into the Spam Can Era. I'm pretty sure everybody here knows that this section is becoming more and more like the Spam Can, and it's sad to see trolls continue pushing its progress into it. This thread was derailed into almost nothing by trolls and random/stupid comments. Yes, even I contributed to its derailing, but at least I'm admitting it unlike some hypocrites who'll just bandwagon for whatever reason they choose to do so. The step to recovery is to admit your problem, after all (I'm not sure if spamming's my problem though). Point is that the mods here are sometimes quick. But that's just it, they're sometimes quick. Correct me on my grammar or my reasoning here, I don't care. All I'm saying is that we're basically taking no steps forward, and instead walking back towards the days of having the Spam Can active. | 2011-02-16 02:51:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |

Godwins Law or not this is an E for everyone site and frankly that particular symbol and even the mere mention of Nazi's is offensive to many people. I'm not saying you don't have the right to talk about it, just not here. Consider this a group warning.... k | 2011-02-16 17:51:00 Author: Morgana25 Posts: 5983 |
Maybe we need to be able to mark threads "brilliant", "good", "meh" and "n00bs in here, don't bother looking" as well as the star ratings. Or you could just encourage use of the star system in this way. Also, I think that the phrase "n00bs in here, don't bother looking" would rather detract from a threads integrity, don't you? | 2011-02-16 18:12:00 Author: thecatreturns123 Posts: 84 |

So, Macnme definately took my place as troll. I think I did a better job though. I made sense. "I see your point" said the blind man to the man with the blunt pencil. I'm not a troll though... I just have strong opinions on just about every subject and unashamedly share them - Very wrong of me I know! I mean, if we're all too afraid to offer an opinion in case some ultra-sensitive, sheltered shut-in takes offense - then I think we have our answer as to why General Chat is so dull | 2011-02-17 12:33:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
