Okay. This is the worst thread ever. Being original now-a-days is apparently a Sin. Heh, if only Hollywood could hear you. ![]() @Op: Does she not like ANYTHING else but metal? You couuld just find some common ground. That or simply don't talk about music with her, not like its the only thing you 2 can talk about...is it? | 2011-02-10 04:09:00 Author: Silverleon ![]() Posts: 6707 |
Hey, do you know that metal song that goes: AUUGAHAUDAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHAAAAAAAAAAAARRR RRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHAAAAAAAARRR!!!!!!!!!! Oh wait, that's all of them. ![]() But yeah, um, just don't talk about music, unless she asks you. | 2011-02-10 05:39:00 Author: tomodon246 ![]() Posts: 624 |
Well if you only like her.... and your not going out.... its fairly safe to presume there must be something else to talk about..... or else you dont really know her. | 2011-02-10 05:45:00 Author: AA_BATTERY ![]() Posts: 1117 |
It's not a sin to have different tastes... If you're mature enough you can share everything. But you show to be so mentally closed to believe metal is only aaaargh. So, sorry, you'll fail. ![]() | 2011-02-10 12:25:00 Author: OmegaSlayer ![]() Posts: 5112 |

Metallica aren't metal ![]() Congratulations on achieving musical elitism. Yes, they are. Maybe not what you class as true metal, but they are Metal none-the-less. People say Avenged Sevenfold aren't metal either. They are, however. There is more than one type of metal, if it isn't what you class as 'true' metal (if there is such a thing) then fine, but that doesn't mean it's not metal. Just because you're into some obscure stuff that you think is teh onleh reul metulz doesn't mean I think it is the definition of metal. Metallica are metal. Say what you wish, but that's fact. You could go join the idiots at Ultimate-Guitar (they aren't all idiots, just the ones who constantly slag off other sub-genres of a genre they claim to like because it makes them feel elite), they post things like that as well. | 2011-02-10 21:31:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
As far as I see it, Metallica are metal. Why? Because they have "metal" in their name, so they obviously must be. To all people giving the guy a hard time, it's okay to try and get into a type of music that you weren't into before (especially if it's to impress a girl), and although I can't speak form my own experiences because I don't really like a lot of metal, I've heard from those that do that it's really worth getting into. I can drop in a few progressive metal classics though: On This Perfect Day by Guilt Machine + The Odyssey by Symphony X. Absolutely no screaming what-so-ever and the first one in particular is an amazing album which I recommend to anyone who likes any kind of music. Okay so what I'm getting here is... 1. If I don't like metal I fail and listen to pop 2. Rock is Good 3. Metalica is not or is metal My response is, 1. I do like some metal, just the ones that I can sort of understand. 2. Rock is Better than good, it's Great 3. Metalica is cool, whether it's metal or not. Thanks about the Rock thing though we both like that alot. I'm not close-minded, if anything I'm more than open-minded. We talk about other things, I'm not dumb. I only say music cause I'm good at it, I play drums and piano plus I make my own stuff sometimes. I've asked here out before and she just got out of a relationship like five days before (she was cool though. we hugged goodbye(cause it was at this retreat)(I'm gunna ask her out again march 6). I think I wasn't clear at the beginning, I like metal, just metal I can understand. A list of Genres I like with conditions are right here: Rap(only if it has a beat that changes sometimes and doesn't repet over and over), Techno(same as rap) Rock(Good) Alternative(Needs a fast or pumping beat) Metal(I need to know what there saying a little) No pop allowed Thanks for the input guys | 2011-02-12 02:54:00 Author: CheesyDemon ![]() Posts: 170 |
Is this heavy metal enough for you? It's Meta Mario. http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSt1TdC3QLo-bozMka92FlqaaAiwD3yqmsblp_Bl1AL4I6XkEKDwA&t=1 | 2011-02-12 04:04:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
Metallica is pop-metal. Yes, that exists. Although I think other people call it nuMetal? Or something.. Once you sell out you're just playing for cash and for people to like you, which is pop. To the guy who said if you don't listen to metal then you listen to pop...does Rock not exist? Also, I thought this thread would have gone under by now. ![]() | 2011-02-12 04:19:00 Author: Bremnen ![]() Posts: 1800 |

What magical with metal is the fact you can potentially always find a genre that's close to what you like. My categorizations may be bad, and that's only based on my personal tastes. Depending on what you like, you may try some feminine symphonic metal (With some epic instuments and generally feminine voices - I just listen to Nightwish, but there's also Epica, maybe Within Temptation etc...), some groove metal (Fierce, with vocalists that seem really angry, but you can understand their words - Pantera, Mahine Head, Devildriver...), or some good old thrash with Megadeth or Slayer. My tastes are far more developed than just this, but other styles may be hard to begin with. They are, I think, genres that are the most accessible. I'll try to put some Avenged Sevenfold too, because this band seems to be really popular... especially with girls. Edit : maybe you can try some power metal too, like Firewind, Sonata Arctica or... Dragonforce ? I don't quite listen to them, but I know that's still quite melodic. But be really, really careful : 'true' metalheads are known to be elitist. Just by mentioning one of the bands I've writen, or even with Dream Theater or Metallica, you can hear that your tastes are pure poop. Try not to be offended with this, maybe listen to some of their suggestions, and try to get an interest in this. | 2011-02-12 15:10:00 Author: ColmiYveul ![]() Posts: 58 |
"Avenged Sevenfold are really popular... especially with girls" Yay for sweeping generalisations! I'll assume you haven't been to a Sevenfold gig. I suggest you go before saying things like that, and see what the proper fanbase is like. I've seen them at Taste Of Chaos back in '08 in LA, and a few more times since then in the UK. Every time, the crowd has been predominantly male and crazy - obviously there are girls, but there are at any concert/gig you go to. | 2011-02-12 15:55:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |

Ahah, I'm a great fan of them, and A7X is actually the band I've traveled the most to see live (Paris is 800km far from my hometown - I burnt half of a month pay just to go to their performance), and this was the craziest gig I've ever seen. Yes, the crowd is male, jumping all around, but there were many girls too. I know why I've been misunderstood, and I didn't want to create a "generalization", but from what I've seen, every girl fond of more or less "mainstream" metal (This is not an insult, I repeat, this is not an insult) I've met has a particular place from them in their heart, because their songs overall are accessible, incredibly catchy, and with great instrumental/vocal performances. | 2011-02-12 16:48:00 Author: ColmiYveul ![]() Posts: 58 |

And yes, there is a LOT of males there, but so is there a LOT of females... the males just make up majority of the place. It's kind of hard to tell if there's any girls in there though, when the mosh pit you're in has everybody beating up each other... even the girls. | 2011-02-13 07:15:00 Author: CyberSora ![]() Posts: 5551 |

Don't force yourself to like metal for this girl. Your relationship will be built on lies from the start. LIES, I say! You need to find someone who will accept you for who you are. If she really likes you, she won't mind that you dislike metal. | 2011-02-13 14:31:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
Yes, taste in music is about as individual and personal as you can get. And there are many, many factors that will influence your musical tastes - from the music you were exposed to as a child to the music that your peers listen to. But forcing someone to like something rarely results in someone actually liking it. As you get older, you'll probably realsie that there is more to relationships than taste in music - and you can even have different tastes (unbelievable and shocking as this sounds). Of course there is the other problem of Musical Classification - which is using a language originally developed to tell other monkeys where the fruit trees were - and is now using it to try and describe something as ethereal as music... and to try and classify and pidgeon hole all music into specific genres.. as if all bands and all music is so easily classified.... when Music is a much more fluid thing - and can easily, even in a single song ,go from Rock to Jazz to Metal to Ballad and back again.... but HMV still needs somewhere to put it so "Lets call it "Rock"" I mean, we all agree that Metallica Circa Kill 'Em All is a radically different band to what they are today - but you'll still find them in the same stall in HMV ![]() | 2011-02-13 16:15:00 Author: Macnme ![]() Posts: 1970 |
