I don't Understand - Why all the Heart whoring?
Archive: 13 posts
I just went to a persons planet - linked there by the COOL LEVELS button - The level that was on the cool levels section is called FREE 100% REAL COSTUMES (HACKED) ALL YOU'VE GOT TO DO IS HEART (it was published 7 hrs ago), its got more boo's than yay's its got 231 hearts and only 164 next to the little sack (still not sure what that is), all the rest of his levels are the same trophie whoring/costume levels, 1 of his levels actually has a name that sounds like a real level, but they all obviously suck and all but that one have maybe 5 hearts but they ALL say PLEASE HEART at the end. I have two questions 1) How is this cool or in the Cool Levels section? 2) Why are people sooo concerned with hearts when they only make **** levels anyway that prolly take literally 5 minutes to make? Also I guess) whats the little sackboy number represent on a level? I just spent like a month on a level that I (and most of my friends) think is cool but apparently no one can see it because I've literally had 2 people besides myself and my friends play it, how do I get this exposure? How can this many people see this guys level within 7 hours and practically no one has seen mine in 2 days? Can anyone illuminate things for me? | 2011-02-10 02:24:00 Author: Gutz Posts: 175 |
Mostly because of the trophies and pins you unlock for certain things. There are no trophies or pins on psp version, and there are hardly any h4h levels. I actually haven't seen one in a long time really. | 2011-02-10 02:36:00 Author: VelcroJonze Posts: 1305 |
The little symbol represents how many people have played and completed it. Hearts don't make sense to me either, as why would anyone want to get so many hearts? What is the purpose? Mostly because of the trophies and pins you unlock for certain things. EDIT:Ahh, true, but some even go further to get hearts even though they may have already unlocked these things. | 2011-02-10 02:38:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
Remember that the majority of people playing LBP are young. They don't necessarily know how unfair it is to share costumes you have to earn. And trophies contribute to it as well. | 2011-02-10 02:42:00 Author: Unknown User |
So how is it that **** levels get more plays than legit levels? | 2011-02-10 02:56:00 Author: Gutz Posts: 175 |
So how is it that **** levels get more plays than legit levels? Because the kids are the majority. LBP is a scary place. | 2011-02-10 03:02:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
I really have no idea how it works, but for me, most of the time it is just luck whether it gets to the cool pages or not, but this is something that I have learned to live with, and don't care much how many plays my levels get, I just create for the fun of it. Actually, maybe it does have somthing to do with the level, i have about 4 levels in LBP2, 2 of them got around maybe 20 - 30 plays, (Versus levels) another about 60 (Survival challenge) and the other one got 800 plays, and it was just a short intro for a new series i'm working on, so i dunno, the system is just really confusing. | 2011-02-10 03:16:00 Author: Merc Posts: 2135 |
In LittleBigPlanet 1, There were a number of reasons why people were eager for hearts. Those reasons included... 1: Trophies 2: Popularity 3: People wanting their work to be appreciated or at least appear to be appreciated. 4: Other reasons unknown to me. For myself when I started out, it was a case of number 3. It's always disappointing for a creator when their first level doesn't get any hearts so some people become more desperate for hearts. I stopped caring about hearts when I realised they don't really have any true value. In LBP2, there are no trophies for hearts so there'll so reason 1 should be no more. | 2011-02-10 18:42:00 Author: D-E-S_87 Posts: 148 |
Maybe you didn't adrvite it much, post on show case with links and screens and if ooks worth it people will play it. Key moment is first plays and there rates if they gonna be good in short amount of time you level will how on bottom of cool pages and more people will play it. Depending on how they gonna rate it it will slowly bubbling up on cool pages and if it reach first page (it will take hours) you pretty much guaranty to have 4 digit play count whatever your level is. | 2011-02-10 19:05:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |

Some people are desperate for any form of praise or gratification. Even if it's completely undesired. That's why people go to great lengths to get trophies, hearts, downloads, etc. About the only thing they are not willing to do is actually put the work in to earn them legitly. | 2011-02-11 01:24:00 Author: Unknown User |
I think because it's just human nature to feel belonging, and they want to be the one everyone else looks up to. Even if they get their popularity falsely, they still feel like the community loves them, they like to see their level succeed especially because like nearly every creator out there, they've had a level fail. The dissatisfaction they feel makes their psuedo-satisfaction from a crummy level feel great, even if it's not really worth bragging about. To deal with getting a level noticed... the first ratings are definitely the most important, get your friends to check out your level, and people that you know will judge it fairly, and in reality, the best way to get a level on the cool pages (as dumb as this sounds) is to make a genuinely cool level. Levels you find on the highest rated pages are things even some of the most unfair raters in the game can't turn down, if you make something really remarkable, that's unique and exciting all in itself, you'll almost no doubt find yourself getting some good attention. | 2011-02-11 01:57:00 Author: Jayhawk_er Posts: 403 |
I find it sad that my own father actually actively participates in these sorts of levels. He actually said to me that he was building one so he could get one of the pins for hearts. When I told him you should try building a good level instead he said "Why, it's just a stupid game" So he believes LBP is stupid yet it is still cool enough to make a fake game to get a virtual pin to him... | 2011-02-11 02:17:00 Author: Alexxerth Posts: 233 |
