Control gravity direction (or fake it...)

Archive: 8 posts

One thing I wanted to implement in LBP2 was a "small moon" with its own gravity. I tried to fake it (turn off global gravity, stick the player in a sackbot, point and accelerate him toward the moon's center) but it turns out sackbots can't walk upside-down. Go figure. I think it would be fun to have the ability to create local gravity sources or generally change the direction of gravity in a place - but if that's too much, being able to fake it (i.e. allow sackbots to walk on any surface their feet are planted on) would be a nice alternative.2011-02-10 00:42:00

Its funny, I was thinking the very same thing today. If local directional gravity was implemented it would have a major effect on the efficiency of making certain types of levels (top downers with any sort of rolling/gradient/elevation effects)

I do hope MM have a look at the possibility of putting this in.

It would also be nice if gravity could focus to the back layer (everything will try to move backwards) so that top down games can have gravity. as it is using anti grav and movers is a annoying. And this way sackboy could actually move around un assisted.2011-02-11 03:28:00

Strange, I was thinking the same thing.....but like a month ago lol. I ended up having the same problem as you.....Maybe MediaMolecule could add that to the Creator Pack 2? I sent Spaff a PM but he didn't reply 2011-02-13 01:53:00

Go visit the tutorial I posted explaining how to walk on the ceiling and 'flip gravity' https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=48578-How-to-flip-gravity-and-walk-on-ceiling
Effectively, as the sackbot can't walk on the ceiling, you need to use movers.

It could be that my implementation needs some more work - but I already tried this. The sackbot can move around on the surface of the moon but tends to launch himself off of it - and jumping tends not to work too well.
