Are movies "Noobie"?

Archive: 15 posts

Now first off I'm not exactly a very good creator. I'm passable at logic and think of (In my opinion) quite interesting concepts. My issue is with both patience and actually creating objects. Now I wouldn't be the oldest creator ever so maybe it's something you grow into with age and practice but so far I'm trying to get myself more acquainted with the tools and the process of creating a level. I've tried a couple of levels in LBP1 but most didn't get off the ground.

So a little while ago I was reading the "What will be the next annoying trend in LBP2" a couple of people said Movies. I do agree that quite a lot of them lack the details of levels which you play. They also tend to get more recogniton. So I decided I was going to make a movie. It was actually really fun. It's basically about someone who's murdered in there bed and there friend chases the killer across the city until the finale in which they have a face off. I could imagine it getting on the cool pages but I'm sort of worried it would ruin my reputation both on this site and for the future.

So will it? Does my idea seem stupid and nooby? Or is it alright?

Man long as it has a good story, movie levels are great!
if you want to do it, go for it~ people who don't like movie levels, are just being to picky.
some are really cool and well made, tho I've only played the beta made ones as of yet to be honest.
but still i never agreed on the idea that games should not
ever be like a movie and that game-play is all that matters,
that opinion is Bull. games need a balance of things to be fun. and LBP is a pool of everything.
so no need to hold back on level type. *mew

I think movie levels with some slight interaction would be nice. Something like a choose your own adventure type level where chooses are linked with movies and you determine how they progress. Add in a few playable action sections that effect the story and it could be really good. However, to tell the truth, I don't really have much interest in watching basic movie levels. LBP just doesn't seem like the best platform for making good movies. I can appreciate the effort that would have to go into them, but I feel like the game is just too limited to do something really good. I just think that effort would pay off more using a real camera or computer animation tools. I may get surprised however, so just keep doing what you enjoy. If you have fun making something then that is what counts.2011-02-09 20:16:00

I personally love movies, it's really great for Sackboy to take a break after non stop hopping around. I'll definitely play it if/when you publish it.

Not at all, they're quite cool. I wouldn't make one personally, I don't have the patience to sit through it every time I want to test it, but do what you like.2011-02-09 21:48:00

I would just like for people to put work into their movies. Whenever I come across a movie level, I never see much work put into it. So as long as you try and make your level have some good scenery and as much eye candy as you can think of, go for it. 2011-02-09 23:50:00

I see absolutely no problem in making a movie on LBP. It's creative.
All those music levels? Creative.
Top-shot games? Creative.
If everything was just the same type of platformer level, then what fun would that be?
The more there is to do in LBP2, the longer it'll last.

Don't ask yourself about what people want to play/see or if you have a reputation or not. This is all futile stuff.
Focus on creating something that you have FUN with and you like. That you enjoy creating. That is all. If you like what you do, it means there's an audience for it out there.

I for one, would very likely watch movies on LBP2. Because that would generally give me some form of inspiration, whether it for music, or for a level.
As for the "Do what you have fun with" comment. I agree. I have fun just making random little things that I will never use again. Maybe one day it will be of use to someone else looking for something like it, then I can pass it on.

Gah! I hate it when people treat movies any differently than levels. If you think of them as levels, then you should be able to answer your own question.

Levels can be good or bad. Movies can be good or bad. Levels can have a lot of effort put into them, or a little effort put into them. Movies are the same way.

Yeah, movies aren't nooby at all, as long as they last longer than 10 seconds, hell, sometimes you don't even need good level design if they're funny or awesome, Remember, creating should be about you if you're proud of a level then you shouldn't care what others say as long as you are happy with the finished product.2011-02-10 03:54:00
