Creator Interview Episode 44: CaptainCowboyHat

Archive: 4 posts

Hello everyone, supposed to be gone for now but forgot until now I still had this other interview to put out >_< Anyway, here it is with another great creator, CaptainCowboyhat, creator of the very challengingyet addicting "OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!" series which just came to a halt recently. Anyway, here it is.

NOTE: Not a picture for creator like last interview since, well, PS3 still doesn't work and I might continue the interviews a bit(at least until 50 if I do) but of course, not so sure about the PS3 and whatnot for the levels. Oh, plus, this interview was answered a while back

1. Out of all the levels, objects, or something else in Little Big Planet you've published whether they're still up are no longer available to play, which would be your favorite?

I love that I pulled off an entire series of levels with the OH NO!!! THE PRINCESS!!! series. But as for specific levels, I've always been especially fond of the Desert Hill level. I had a lot of fun making it and I learned a lot about creating while I worked on it.

2. Are there any levels, objects, music or something else in Little Big Planet that you're working on and if so, you could you give us some information about it? (This could be anything like the title, theme, plot, pictures or even a trailer)

Right now I'm just waiting for Videogames Etc. to call me and tell me that my LBP2 Collector's Edition is ready to be picked up! After that, I dunno what I'll work on first. We'll see.

3. Are there any levels or creators in Little Big Planet that inspire you to keep creating or that you at least like?

I admire jackofcourse and comphermc, but mostly their technical prowess makes me mad. I've never been able to wrap my head around the complex workings they can pull off. So screw them! But no, I love them.

4. When and how exactly did you get Little Big Planet?

I got it about a year after it came out...right around the time the MGS pack came out, if memory serves. I'd been eyeing the game since before it came out, but I didn't have a PS3.

5. How did you get the name CaptainCowboyHat?

I was playing around with the character creation in City of Heroes and I made a big burly purple superhero with a cowboy hat. I named him Captain Cowboy Hat, thought it was hilarious, and arbitrarily picked the name as my PSN ID. I sort of regret it, since it has nothing to do with anything I'm actually interested in, but I've grown to like it for the most part.

6. Is there anything you use as sort of a symbol for you in Little Big Planet? (This could be anything like an object that could be hidden or regularly placed in your levels, one that you just have in create, etc.)

No, but I love the idea of it. I'm going to pick a sticker in LBP2 and hide it in every level I make from now on. However, there IS a hidden sticker in World 8...

7. Have you had any glitches or bugs in create that might've been devastating or just downright weird? If so, could you try explaining some?

I've actually been very lucky. The most I've had to deal with is stuff everyone has to deal with: stuff coming unglued, pistons breaking, stickers vanishing... I haven't seen any of the level-destroying bugs I've read so much about.

8. Is there anything or anyone outside of Little Big Planet that inspires you to create or that you just like?

Well, Mario games, obviously. I was super impressed by the Super Mario Galaxy series. Loved them both. Give me a well-designed platformer game and I'll stay entertained for days.

9. Are there any tips or tricks you could provide for creating(This could be a basic tip like to not use too many corners if you wanna save thermometer or something more detailed like certain stickers tat help or well, any tips you find useful. It could be about lighting, stickers, music, objects, platforming, saving thermometer, etc.)

Test your level over and over and over again. Try to break it. If you can break it, other people WILL break it.

10. If you could add or change something in Little Big Planet or in the Little Big Planet 2 Beta that you haven't heard being added or changed, what would it be?

Well, I'm told that World 8 is impossible to complete in LBP2. I'd change that.

11. What is your greatest achievment(s) related to Little Big Planet (This could be anyting like winning a certain contest, getting one of your levels an MM pick, getting a certain amount of plays or hearts, etc.)

Probably finishing an entire series, even if it did take me forever. Having World 3 be an MM Pick was nice as well.

12. Are there any other games that you enjoy that you're currently playing, used to play or just a game that you're looking forward to besides Little Big Planet or Little Big Planet 2?

I find Minecraft fascinating and endlessly entertaining, even though it should be super boring.
