Improvements on Music Sequencer

Archive: 13 posts

As I make lots of music in the sequencer, it is a very strong tool and fun to use. But a few improvements could definitely help make the process even easier and more accessible:

1)- DESIGNATE EXACT POINT WHERE SONG SHOULD START LOOPING - This could be very helpful, as I have had problems looping certain songs in the sequencer. An idea would be to be able to place a marker anywhere on the music sequencer to signal when it should stop, rather than have to work with default section sizes. Also, Be able to place a marker designating what point a song should revert to after playing once (like if you have an intro you only want to play once, the song could play through and then restart somewhere in the middle.)

2)- PINPOINT EXACTLY WHEN A SECTION SHOULD STOP - Similar to the above one, only you place a marker on an instrument's sequence to let it know when to stop and begin the next section.

3)- MORE INSTRUMENTS - This is an obvious one, and while the array of instrument choices is by no means small, we could use some more variety (there is a lot of synth sounds and ringtone-esque ones). Maybe some acoustic guitar, choir, brass, more realistic strings, and organ.

Basically the main idea is to have more freedom over the length of the songs and individual parts. It would definitely make things alot more convenient, as there are times where I have to make certain sections multiple times because they don't always end cleanly. I think many music sequencer users would agree that these revisions could help us make even more amazing tunes if Mm implements them in some way. I hope people agree with me!

Remember, if the music made with it is too good it could replace the official music from the DLC, making Sony/MM lose money.

But I still agree completely.

MM don't really make much money of music packs. Besides, there's no way sequencer music will ever beat MM's Music, which is recorded in a professional studio and often comes as IntMusic. Besides, many levels are already better than MM's - they obviously are not concerned about power. Why not give us musicians some extra power as well?

I'd like to be able to have different time signatures. If you can change it, then please do tell me how. I havn't found out a way yet. Other than going through and changing it yourself.2011-02-09 23:11:00

I see this one a lot. Yes, it would be cool, but I'd rather have more customisable controls over the sounds that we have rather than new ones altogether. All we have now is timbre and volume. Imagine the possibilities with things like Attack, Gain, Resonance, Decay. The possibilities are endless.

That does sound like a good idea. Though what I really have to say about all this stuff such as "More sounds"
It's only PART of a game. If you really want to make amazing music, use real instruments, or a professional sequencer, such as Cubase.

Of course, we're not asking MM to make us a studio, it's more like "I want recreate the entirety of The Wall and maybe upload it to the servers, can you guys give some more tools to work with?"

EDIT: Then again, it's a bit of a bad example, but still, get my point; if we want to do it, we should be able to. Not to say MM is forced to give us anything, but yeah.

I'm guessing that they're going to release instrument packs, which I will buy immediately of course.

So I'm not worried about the variety of instruments.

Which I agree with, just don't expect too much.

Lol, don't use Cubase. Logic and Ableton are the way forward my friend!

YEAH!! You know what your saying dude!

How about a nice Synth you can tweak yourself??
I'd like some more fx's as well like: EQ's and sidechain compression

I Think it would be handy if they made one block just one bar instead of 2
Place new note with the square button for a better work flow.
And a nice old skool breakbeat <3 Amen.

No no no. Only Soundforge for me.

Throw in a Tascam US-1800 and you're all good.

The option to do third notes (triplets). It' something I hadn't encountered until like my 10th tune but now that I am aware of it, it's absolutely crippling and has made something I was trying to do impossible. Everything is stuck exactly on that 8-circle grid which means you're not just restricted to a 4/4, 8/4 etc. time signature, you're actually restricted to half-notes, quarter-notes etc. even when you want to do third-notes or sixth-notes.

I would argue that this is the most important addition we need as it's a very common occurance in music. Some people have said "Just ignore the bars" but I don't think that's really a viable solution.
