Snowdon Summit Sojourn

Archive: 9 posts

Hi there!

My first published level - a long time in the making. It contains simple puzzles, platforming and a boss-fight at the end. I tried to make it as "vertical" as possible -- going from lush green lowlands up, via train and cable car, to the frozen mountain peaks.

This being Wales, there are also lots of sheep, and overly-protective farmers :-)

It should work well either in single player or co-op multiplayer. I tried to make good use of the LBP2 toolset. Lots of collectibles too!

I'd appreciate any feedback -- it's a bit galling after so much effort not to get the level played / seen, so any tips on how to improve it would be gratefully received.

I have it queued and will give it a try when I next log on. Sounds pretty sweet!

(If you choose to, you can play/feedback any of my levels)

That was quite the imaginative level! The style was really impressive, and the sceanery was excellent! Platforming was always interesting, and never too hard (plus the farmer was quite funny). The sheep puzzle was fun also, and very clever. I really liked the train and gondola too (and I'm still wondering how you pulled those off...), plus the way you changed the music when going into a cave. I really liked the atmosphere of the level, and highly recommend it to anyone. Good job!2011-02-10 01:25:00

I liked your level. It had a unique theme and the visuals work well. Having the music slightly change when entering caves was a nice effect. I also liked the train going up the excessively steep slope. The boss was pretty easy since I could just catch the crates he threw, but it was still a good idea and enjoyable. The only difficulties I had were with a few puzzles. The first was the one with the bridge that opened up based on a switch on each side. I didn't realize what the wall switches did for a while and I thought I broke the level by blowing up one of the boxes too early. I think you should add in a sound effect or drop the box in a way that can be seen to make sure the player associates the switch with the box appearing. The other problem I had was with the first sheep that got killed from me scaring it. I think I was supposed to ride it across a gap, but I grabbed it and accidentally let go. It seemed to get stuck in the gap and I could just barely make the jump over to where the sheep was stuck. I think you should either make sure the sheep will come back or that the jump is just a little shorter depending on how you want that pert to be played. Aside from these problems, it was a good level and I enjoyed playing it. Good job.2011-02-11 18:59:00

I have this level queued now, and will play it and review it within 24 hours.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to access a computer that often, so I am only able to post reviews of your level on the Little Big Planet 2 game. Having said this, I will post a good review with honest opinions and suggestions.

Hope you don't mind, apologies for any inconvenience.

In return, could you please play and review my level in my signature.
When you review it, I don't mind if you post a review on this website or the game, but if you don't mind, I'd prefer the review to be in game, but either works.

Thanks, apologies once again for any inconvenience!

Much appreciated.

@JDSFrog. Thanks very much. I played three of your levels and left reviews -- they are brilliant!

@waffledogRTK. Thank you very much for the feedback ,very helpful. I left a review for your fantastic Ravine Ramble. I need to improve the game cameras that show when you move the levels / press or depress the switches in the puzzle. Maybe movie camera the first time they are triggered would make it more obvious (the game cameras are supposed to show the crates appearing, but the field of view may not be sufficient with more than one player).

The "sheep ledge" is actually supposed to work that way: You scare the sheep, and it gets stuck in the gap. The only way to get over the gap is to jump to the sheep. The sheep falls shortly thereafter which angers the farmer. I guess I need to signpost somehow that this is intentional -- that players should be jumping over the gap. Maybe adding stickers or something to the background would help? BTW once the sheep dies, a new one is spawned, so there is always a way across the gap (however it shouldn't die until all players have crossed anyway).

You shouldn't be able to catch thrown crates -- I'll look into and fix that! TBH I find the crate logic quite difficult to pull off, but on the plus side, an unexpected gameplay mechanic is intercepting the sackbot's crates with your own -- turned out to be more fun than I was expecting!

@RacingCreed -- Certainly! I have it queued up and look forward to playing it this weekend.

Visually beautiful, I didn't finish though, I got stuck when I accidentally dropped a sheep down the hole. Since a new sheep never spawned, I just quit. I will likely go back and try again later. Anyway what I did see was well done.2011-02-12 18:06:00
