Arcade be the name

Archive: 21 posts

Hey everyone!

My name is Arcade (has been since I turned 18), I nick Kizo and/or KizoziK. Luckily, Kizo was available here.

I'm currently working as a Level Designer at GRIN (Bionic Commando, Wanted, Ghost Recond: Advanced Warfighter, etc.).

Hmm... Not sure what else to say. I've been a fan of LBP since the first video but unfortunately I did not make it into the beta, so I'm new to the tools for creating stuff here. So you'll see me every now and then in the Help-forum, getting and giving help.

If there's anything you want to know; ask.

Over and out.

Oh sorry, I didn't work on Ghost Recon. It's just a game that GRIN made, that's what I tried to explain. My bad.

Thanks everyone.

I'm currently working on an unannounced project. (It sucks not being allowed to talk about it.) Before this I 'm afraid have no prior experience within the professional industry; only indie game development, mapping and modding.

Oh, and I have a bachelor's degree from Computer Games Development - Game Design at the University of Sk?vde, Sweden.

Here are some stuff:

ROPE - Half-Life 2 mod:
YouTube - ROPE Beta Video Gameplay

Steamgunners - Indie project:

Any tips for someone interested in getting into the Video Game Design business? I'm still not sure what aspect I would be best in, but I'm mostly having trouble deciding what degree to aim for. What do dev studios look for in an applicant?

WOW a video game designer on our forums now that is going to be pretty cool to see what he comes up with once he gets used to all of the tools and all of the intricacies of them.

Cheers!

What do dev studios look for in an applicant?Sorry if I sound clich? but; passion, comitment, talent and skill. Being able to work in a team is one of the most important skills.

Try and get used to working with Version control systems (for example http://subversion.tigris.org/ ) and bug handling systems (for example http://www.mantisbt.org/ ) and you'll have a head start.

Decide what profession you want to work with; no one is interresting in a Jack of all trades that doesn't excel in any. Whether it's game design, programming, 3D-modelling, animation, audio or quality assurance or something else is up to you. I don't think it's "easier" to get a job in any of them.

There are a few articles on http://www.gamasutra.com and http://www.gamecareerguide.com/ on what to think about when applying for
a job within the industry.

I wish you the best of luck.

Well hello!

Don't you think this is game is a platformer-loving modder's dream come true? Especially if MM provides us with some of the additions we're craving for the Create Mode.

I'm loving every minute of tinkering with LBP.

Also, did you have anything to do with Bionic Commando Rearmed's level design? Loved the game.

Well hello!

I'm loving every minute of tinkering with LBP.I'd say it's a great start. For a "mapper" it's great, but I still feel that the tools are too limited for those who wishes to create true mods. Give me some gravity manipulation, variable tweaking and stuff at least.

And I don't think they should put in those stuff, it may be limiting now but it's also user friendly and that's what makes it great.

But LBP is amazing! You can do incredibly impressive things. I mean, some of the things I see guys create blow my mind!

Also, did you have anything to do with Bionic Commando Rearmed's level design? Loved the game.I'm afraid I didn't have anything to do with it except getting it and loving it.

You're right, for a modder it's not quite versatile enough. I've always been more of a mapper myself.

I guess what I love about this game is that it's really the first time I can actually make fun sidescroller levels of my own. I do kind of hope that at some point we'd get projectile weapons to use in the editor, to make all those Mega Man dreams come true, though. But not yet, only way in the future, after the basic premise of LBP has gotten old.
