DCS 'Nearest Player' issues and a sackbot that doesn't know its right from left...

Archive: 3 posts

OK, SO I've been messing around with creating some spec op sackbots for a war some mates and I are planning and I've come across a few issues.

The first is rather trivial, but annoying nonetheless:
I have a DCS set to receive from nearest player, which then triggers walking left and right according to the thumbstick (in a fashion identical to sackboy). Now it works perfectly, except from when I move the left analog stick slightly to the left. This makes the sackbot creep to the right, instead of the left. If I push the stick further left, then everything works as normal. There are no such problems in the opposite direction.
My first reaction was that this was a hardware issue, but after some (very) brief tests I was not so sure. Is this some glitch I am unaware of, or should I go back and test my controller properly?

Secondly, there is the issue of controlling the sackbot with a DCS receiving from the nearest player. I have it set up so that a sackboy sits on a dcs on a piece of holographic (which makes him invisible) and at a click of the L3 button, it snaps straight to the sackbot with the aid of a follower. A tag on the DCS activates the sackbot circuitry, allowing it to be controlled. With the L3 button hooked to a selector, I managed to get it to switch between different sackbots in turn, allowing individuals to be controlled without affecting any of the others. This works as desired

The problem comes when a second controlling character comes into the mix. I had the DCS on holographic used to control the sackbots linked to an identical twin DCS in such a fashion that both could toggle through control of each of the sackbots in turn, but would block the DCS from switching if the other was already controlling it. This also works fine

So having only one controller, and wishing to show off my gunslinging awesomeness () I invited a friend into the level to test both DCSs at once. The problem comes when both players are trying to control different sackbots. If one player is controlling a sackbot and the other isn't, the system works as planned. However when both players are controlling different sackbots, both respond to just one of the DCS. I am not sure why one player controls both when each of the DCSs are receiving from nearest player and the player is for all intents and purposes 'on' the sackbot.

Anyone that helps will win a packet full of awesome

Strange. Just tested this, but was unable to reproduce it.

However when both players are controlling different sackbots, both respond to just one of the DCS.

Not sure, but as a workaround, how about having each player in a DCS transmitting on a different color, place receivers of each color in use onto each Sackbot, and use logic to disable all the ones you don't want to override the Sackbot's actions? Seems more reliable than using the "nearest player" option.

Must be a hardware issue then, great...

I'm liking this idea Seems like a perfect workaround to me
