sackaliens 2!! viva sackvegas!!

i posted this level as a normal thread but i wasnt getting any attention so i posted now as a f4f thread. please tell me what you think and ill leave you feedback on yours!

Playability

Okay, so this is a top-down shooter, you are in a UFO and you have to shoot down buildings! All good in a days gaming to me.

The score system is good, giving you more points for bigger and flashier buildings, and also higher scores for shooting other UFOs (I'd like to have seem more of these spawn.)

I do, unfortunately, have a few issues (easily fixable)

1. The controls aren't very obvious. Yes you have them in your description, but there are players out there who won't bother reading it (I'm a prime example, I see a good title, decent photos on the info screen, I play.) so perhaps tweak the outputs on your controllinator to tell people what button does what (press square over the controllinator outputs and it'll let you put in a caption, so 'fire laser', etc)
2. The ufo felt like it was moving through tar. Try speeding it up a little and this will be a lot more satisfying. Also I kept getting stuck on the remains of some of the buildings. This was confusing as all I kep thinking was 'Hey! I'm a UFO! I should be able to fly over this stuff!" I'm not sure how you'd rectify this, but it's not the most important issue. If the ufo was faster I don't think this would have bothered me so much.
3. The weapons. In all honesty, I couldn't see that the tractor beam etc had any effect. I tried shooting them at the sakbots and nothing seemed to happen. Is this a glitch? Perhaps try testing this a little more.

Looks

Top-down views can be challenging to design and make interesting. You're almost there, but this could do with some more flashiness. Is the fog level high in your level? Darkness is a good choice for this one but I imagine your 'SackVegas' as being a bright, flashy place. The lights place on the street are a little confusing as I thought they were socre bubbles (lol!) - perhaps try playing about with some holo material and animating some flashy signs for the top of your buildings? It would add some individuality to the look and feel much more satisfying when it's blown up!

Rating

Neither yay nor boo on this. It needs work but it's a great effort so far. Don't give up on it, get it right and you'll have a good top-down shooter on your list.

wow thanx a lot for your indeep review! i queued your level so ill leave you feedback when i came from college, about the tractor beam, i try it and works fine. maybe its a glitch but ill try it again just in case. ill get to work on my level and let you know.
