http://lbp.me/v/yprsw6 http://i9.lbp.me/img/ft/a6988845ae2bc2eed9f2ad508fd2803838605144.jpg I spent about a week fine tuning and reiterating this bot from memory, a vastly (and I stress vastly) improved iteration of the beta demo, of the main character from my all time favorite game: Castlevania Symphony of the Night for PS1. I realized that this bot needed alot of room to breathe, alot of stuff to kill and dodge, and my take on a combat survival challenge with Castlevania elements seemed like the perfect way to debut the sackbot. 14 enemy drone types with nicely done costumes that are progressively tougher or faster. blood zombie, skull zombie, ghoul, fireskull, medusa, minotaur, snake queen, pumpkinhead, frankenstein, iron golem, vampire, blood vampire, succubus, & dread knight. They march, you mash. Hordes in 6 phases, with 6 being the most brutal, and you endure as long as you can. http://ie.lbp.me/img/ft/79e58b9bd5768014007630a16b8084565d428fb5.jpg Alucard is equipped with his legendary Crissiagrim sword that slashes hundreds of blades with one hit, the rare skull shiild for defense, jump (obviously) & double jump, his gravity jump (down, up, X), backslide evade/shadow step with tons of crazy effects on every move. http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/928434ccf60c0635943228f63c6e10d3f5429795.jpg ...and his 3 shapeshifting forms, each with their own abilities that can be cycled through seamlessly at will, and are strategically necessary to survive. http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/f1a654aaeb62b3a247c5f65a94ac19c70bc6f93d.jpg The wolf has a rushing strafe attack that juggernauts through enemies; the fastest, but easiest to err with. http://i2.lbp.me/img/ft/e92d48485d7214acbb2e8d61c58e1effb9cff924.jpg The bat has a long range mega fireball and sonar attack... each have their strengths, and he's the strongest but moves slowest. http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/754a4a35b05d77964b2d631e3282255269d28804.jpg Mist form... a gaseous cloud that deals damage, is invulnerable, and fast traveling, great for evasion, and escape, but only last a short while. Mastering your abilities and attacks is key to a good run and a solid score. This bot will probably always be a work in progress, like Celteen with his Metal Gear Rex. | 2011-02-08 04:03:00 Author: Unknown User |
Fantastic! I love Castlevania. I love Alucard. I love this level. I thought it was very difficult but maybe I just need some more practice. Such a great job re-creating Alucard, I don't think it can be out-done. | 2011-02-08 04:56:00 Author: Unknown User |
Fantastic! I love Castlevania. I love Alucard. I love this level. I thought it was very difficult but maybe I just need some more practice It probably is at first. I spent so much time testing him (and of course playing SotN) that I've got playing his ability switching down pat... it'll take some practice, but the swarms should be easy to thin out with a few sonars, careful wolf rush use (especially when cornered) to barge to the other side and recoup a little. Such a great job re-creating Alucard, I don't think it can be out-done. Thanks so much. That means alot coming from a Castlevania fan. I have a few different versions of him (spells & special moves using Street Fighter style input logic) but those would be better for a full blown adventure. After adding in some small details & the sackbot thermo (Crissagrim emitter always needs 2 blocks to function, counting onscreen bots), i was so tied up or i'd have started the Richter & Maria bots too | 2011-02-08 06:07:00 Author: Unknown User |
Will be playing this tonight after work, expect some feedback after I run through it a couple of times. Really excited, SoTN is one of my favorite games of all time! | 2011-02-08 07:18:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Right on, OCK. Hopefully it lives up to your expectations. I think it came out as a totally unique Castlevania feel, because of the zombie survival challenge choice. I kinda like that I did something over the top & complex with what people were sure would be a lazy genre. Some dude got 65k earlier... I hope a scoreboard competition gets going if it does well. | 2011-02-08 07:57:00 Author: Unknown User |
Color me queued! Will be leaving some feedback sooner or later | 2011-02-08 08:55:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
Great great great greatness! I queued it and play it ASAP!!! On a side note, this Brainape PSN ID change messes me a bit. | 2011-02-08 09:40:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
I played it twice and I must say it is pretty awesome. But... Suggestions: - I think you should be doing more damage with a single hit. Or at least the enemies should have a smaller health - when you get hit by an enemy you shouldn't bounce back to the other side of the level . Just make the bounce back smaller Bugs: - I once got trapped by the enemies but they weren't hurting me. They just pilled up so I slashed them all down Thisn was a great and fun level and I hope my feedback has been of use. I liked & hearted it. Lots of love, blizzard! <3 | 2011-02-08 11:19:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
The shape shifting transition is just flawless and I love all the attacks. I just need a higher score right now lol. A1 level/ survival | 2011-02-08 12:43:00 Author: L1GhTmArE Posts: 519 |
Had a lot of fun with this one last night - the number of attack options and strategic choices is really staggering. I feel like I've only scratched the surface. Everything works flawlessly. It's gonna take a lot of practice... | 2011-02-08 15:08:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
If I had only one word to describe what you have created it would be magnificent. This creation is a game changer and from a technical standpoint is simply unparalleled. I hope people understand the intellect and skill that was necessary to make Alucard do all the things you allow him to do. Any creator worth their salt should marvel at what you have achieved, this is like a PHD in advance logic. I have have played (and enjoyed) some tech demos featuring Etzio from Assassin's Creed and Cole from inFamous but to tell you the truth this makes those levels look like child's play and should inspire creators doing character based levels to really step their game up. As an SoTN fan I appreciate how much you put into Alucard. Gravity boots, mist form, bat form, wolf form, you really went all out! I love the aesthetics as well, coffin looks great, rain is probably the best I have seen in LBP, small details like the fire trail on the wolfs special attack were expertly crafted. There is a lot you can do with this character and personally I would love to see more. When there is so much happening on-screen slowdown is unavoidable so any criticisms pertaining to that should be deemed irrelevant. Maybe removing rain would help, maybe less sackbots would help but either way you are compromising something. For that I reason I encourage others to accept this for what it is and try to appreciate the work that went into it. It does not matter what you do in LBP you will never please everyone but I for one am very happy with what you have shared with the community, thanks for another fantastic creation. Now, bring on the full SoTN remake | 2011-02-08 15:26:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
I toned down the bounce back, blizzard. i had it set up like a low luck, no armor critical hit makes you react in SotN (when I was still building it for a straight adventure). It definitely fits better with the horde combat now. Thanks a million, OCK. That's the stuff that keeps me motivated. Alucard was no walk in the park to make. | 2011-02-08 16:23:00 Author: Unknown User |
I don't remember SoTN... but I can tell you this, I got very excited when I saw this was a survival and who it was from. A full-powered sack-bot with multiple forms introducing real strategy into the combat survival genre. Sign me up. "But what'll I do with this paintanator now?" Maybe there's hope for the survival field yet... way to reclaim even one little piece. | 2011-02-08 16:54:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
OooooOOOo I didn't realize this was out there! Added to queue as a must play! | 2011-02-08 17:21:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Hey Ninja, what can I say that hasn't already been said? So, I'll just say. KILLER!!!! | 2011-02-09 01:07:00 Author: smasher Posts: 641 |
Great update. I noticed a lot of new enemies, you listened to my suggestions and I actually managed to get 6th on the scoreboard! I encountered the bug once more but you'll or probably already have fixed it. Oh and a question. What's the use of the bat? He's slower then the wolf and the mist and it seams to me that he's weaker then the wolf. Am I missing something here? Anyways, I love what you have done and hope you just keep on improving. Lots of love, blizzard! <3 | 2011-02-09 06:49:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
Really nice! Plays smoothly, nice variety of attacks - well, prett much what everyone else aready said. It's quite easy to get stuck in the rightmost wall though, happened 3 times now. When being cornered there and switching to any other form, it won't spawn and you will just be trapped in there as a non-physical existence, forever. It was ok with my score being around 10k, but I imagine someone who's currently breaking the highscore might be pretty sad about this happening. Great work, hearted and on my list of "levels that I can show to friends in order to demonstrate the awesomeness of LBP2" Oh, and I think you should nerf the wolf form's dash. I managed to get 30'000 (and would have gotten far more than that if it wasn't for a stupid mistake) ONLY with that attack, dashing from left to right and back repeatedly. It recharges too fast - may I recommend adding a recharge-delay? Something like a 0.8 second timer that cuts a gap between releasing the dash button and the bar actually recharging. | 2011-02-09 10:42:00 Author: Treas Posts: 223 |
the bat's the only one with a safe semi long range attack, has no time limit (so you can float & take a breather) & his sonar is actually pretty devastating to a group because it does like 30 points of damage per hit per sec. you're probably right about the wolf recharge needing a little gimping @ Treas... i'll see if i can find a time that seems like a good balance | 2011-02-09 12:33:00 Author: Unknown User |
I just have to say that I spent about 90 minutes playing this going for the top score making it my most played LBP level ever (by far). I love the subtle layers of strategy, the game rewards further replay and exploration of the different abilities. Great work once again, I hope this gets the MM pick it deserves. | 2011-02-09 15:27:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
Very cool except for the fact that you need to hack away twenty times before they die. | 2011-02-09 16:14:00 Author: BasketSnake Posts: 2391 |
They just need to take some damage so that you're forced to use evasive moves & can't just stand in one spot attacking. 1 hit kills would probably be common if I made an adventure level out of it though. zombies take 10 sword hits (100 points), skull zombie takes 20 (200), medusa, snake queen, minotaur & pumpkin head take 25-30 (300-350), dracula takes 40 (400), & frankenstein takes 50 (1000). bat sonar hits 3 times, wolf rush hits 5 times per length & zombies die from 2 rushes. 5 full rush swipes through a horde will kill frankenstein who should still be standing if you killed his weaker cohorts, keeping you on your toes. candles take 1 hit, hearts are worth 500 but only alucard can grab them. think of it as a jumping survival, where instead of pressing X you press square. | 2011-02-09 18:44:00 Author: Unknown User |

I hope this gets the MM pick it deserves. Couldn't have said it better myself. The layers of control given to Alucard are simply unbelievable and the overall presentation is fantastic. It's reasons like this that the LBP community is glad to have you back | 2011-02-10 18:13:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |
It's reasons like this that the LBP community is glad to have you back Other thank OCK's kind words, & Trindall's excellent feedback & reviews, that's gotta be the nicest thing I've heard since I came back. Right back atcha. You're already kicking up dust in create, and I can't wait to see you get back in full swing again. Creators like you are one of the reasons I wish players had to get a mandatory crash course in LBP community history... people have no idea how advanced the boss in Shadow Moses Site B was when it was first published. MM Pick? Obviously never. I'm always gonna do my thing regardless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5_A-d4JdKs | 2011-02-10 20:35:00 Author: Unknown User |
...if I made an adventure level out of it though. I really hope you do decide to make an adventure level! Amazing little bot, I don't even want to think about what your microchips looks like... The controls are very responsive and the control scheme itself with the different forms on the shoulder buttons is very intuitive so even having to figure out things by trial and error isn't too painful. A button mapping screen and status indicator overview screen would have been appreciated though. I only got a chance to play a few times and didn't last very long...I will definitely play this one again. | 2011-02-11 00:06:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
MM Pick? Obviously never. I'm always gonna do my thing regardless. MM are heavily into twitter. They've got an account for MMpicks and they tweeted this "Send us levels which you think are MmPick worthy folks, it's time to play!" . If enough people tweet about this it could help! Brilliant level btw even if I'm just terrible at it. I adopt the "stand there and spam all available buttons and hope" approach. Needless to say I didn't last long. I'm definitely going to give it another shot though. I second Elvenbane's call for an adventure level. That would be amazing, if thermo allows. | 2011-02-11 08:57:00 Author: shropshirelass Posts: 1455 |
Haha, I just now see that I was playing this level while romping through my queue and that I completely missed that the level was created by you. Unfortunately, I tried the level only once, and I devoted some time to understanding the battle moves, but suddenly countless emphatic zombies were trying to group hug me. And eventually I died. This level has a great foundation (first time I have seen in LBP2 such a well developed character, control vise, with so many special moves). I hope a cohesive level is built on this concept. A level which would contain scripted battle events, progressing difficulty and a bit of story would create a much more memorable experience. This is certainly a unique and well developed concept, just waiting for some greater scheme within which it will be implemented, and I am glad to see you are considering this possibility. When I get back home from work today I will give it another go, to see if I will endure any longer this time. | 2011-02-11 10:35:00 Author: Stampy Posts: 86 |

I'll probably add that in soon since a title screen & control page won't take up thermo in play once they're destroyed & it's dtarted. I just need to finish my Castlevania font logo, but I stopped after the S | 2011-02-12 14:28:00 Author: Unknown User |
And I thought the Hamsterton2000 looked complicated! Appreciate getting a peek at what makes Alucard tick, thanks for the image...very impressive. | 2011-02-12 15:59:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
A button mapping screen added them in. thanks for the push. i also just added a scaling difficulty. took a bit to find a way to fit in the extra emitter sets & adapt my sequencing stuff into 5 phases but i think it should let first timers get comfortable before the full onslaught. thanks for forcing me to do it @ Jaeyden and i forgot @Treas. I did end up nerfing the wolf a little with a recharge delay a couple days ago. Forgot to mention. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. It's pushed me to make the bot demo much more fleshed out. I might start thinking about other uses for this bot now in bigger stuff. | 2011-02-13 06:16:00 Author: Unknown User |
Last week when I took the top spot the glory only lasted a day as I was soon overtaken by not one but THREE other players. Today I decided to take the throne back and that is exactly what I did (took me 45 minutes lol). Compliments on the new menu screen, looks slick. At first I was apprehensive about the wolf rush nerf but it makes sense and forces the player to use Alucard's full arsenal which is exactly what one would be doing in SoTN. Great stuff once again. | 2011-02-13 17:11:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
I really think that this should get Mm picked... | 2011-02-14 17:49:00 Author: blizzard_cool Posts: 752 |
Wanted to check out the new title/menu screen and other changes but the level is locked? Deliberate...or something funny going on after the update? | 2011-02-15 02:24:00 Author: fullofwin Posts: 1214 |
Wanted to check out the new title/menu screen and other changes but the level is locked? Deliberate...or something funny going on after the update? i transferred my levels over to my original PSN 'cause i got tired of switching back & forth to play saves on my other games. back to default playcount on NinjaMicWZ & updated the lbp.me links in the threads. | 2011-02-15 03:17:00 Author: Unknown User |
