Map Borders and Camera Help.

Archive: 9 posts

I am working on an RTS, it is almost finished, but I have a few problems I need help with.

1. I need a border for my map, or else the player can go anywhere he wants, I tried placing a follower (activated by a border tag) set to flee on the cursor, but the cursor can easily pass the border tags. Does anyone know another solution to this?

2. My main menu has 2 options that activate cameras, for example; clicking highscores activates a camera that looks at the scoreboard, but when the camera stops, it does not go back to the main menu camera.

So, off the top of my head, you could place four tags sensors around the outside of the map like so:

Once that's set up, split the up/down and left/right control from the left stick with direction splitters. Than, use two direction combiners as input into an advanced mover. Then, wire these direction splitters together using the following logic:

left on stick AND NOT blue key sensor moves left
right on stick AND NOT yellow key sensor moves right
up on stick AND NOT green key sensor moves up
down on stick AND NOT red sensor moves down

What do you think?

I don't get what your saying. Can you post a picture of the logic? And tell me how it works?

Ok, hopefully this will help. The border switches labeled in the bottom left correspond to the colored semi-circles in my last post. You don't need NOT gates if you invert the output of the switches. The missing piece here is that the cursor with the advanced mover needs to have four tags on it, each corresponding to a border switch.

Thanks, I'll try it soon, now if somebody helps me with the camera, I'll (hopefully) have no more problems, and (hopefully) i'll finish my RTS at the end of the week.

for the camera problem, make a copy of your first camera and just connect the output of the second or highscore camera to the copy so it takes you back to the same view as before

and another simple answer to the border problem is to just put invisible dark matter around the whole thing... (Make it very small and draw in straight lines with dark matter makes it invisible)

Okay, i'll try the camera thing, but my cursor is holographic so it will just pass through. I'll try Lokno's idea first.
