BIG PROJECT - New LBP Computer [Need Contributors]

Archive: 7 posts

Hey guys, as some of you may know, there have been some cool things that people have made with LBP 2 in the beta, but what really intrigued me was the Windows: LBP Edition level. That level gave me a bunch of ideas ever since I saw it before LBP 2 came out, and lately I've been working on a completely new LBP in-game "computer." It's sad to think that all that hard work is now gone. So who would like to join me on this vast adventure? Read on if you are interested!

UPDATE: The filler name for now will be LittleBigOperatingSystem (LBOS), but the team will decide on a better name later on once we have more members

Basic Concept
So, how will this level be made? Simple. There will be a team of designers, each person responsible for their own specialty, and at the same time responsible for everything in the level, as that is a team's job. We'll start off with making the interface, move on to the windows, the actual stuff inside of it (like games, videos, pictures, music, etc.) Eventually it will become an awesome, amazing work of LBP art. So how will we do it? In this thread, I'll discuss some of the concepts we'll be using, but if you want to learn the full concept, then join the development team!

Making the multiple windows appear without emitters
The old Windows: LBP Edition used a complex system of tags, tag sensors, and emitters for the windows and stuff, but I had a better idea, a much better idea. Each window will have it's own unique properties, but they will all share a common microchip that moves them in and out of the main window. There will be a special area for each window which will not be visible in play mode. There will be an invisible hologram in the center with a tag on it. This will be the "attractor" for the windows. When they are called upon, a selector inside the previously mentioned MC will switch to a state which activates a follower with maximum range that follows the tag on the invisible hologram. The invisible hologram will also follow the windows, because we need to be able to drag the window, which will override the invisible hologram state. So basically, the invisible hologram is an anchor point for all the windows. More detailed information for team members.

Windows and what is inside of them
So, what will the windows be made of? They'll be made of a combination of certain materials and holograms. Each window will either have interactive buttons (all of them will have close buttons), or in the case of games, a controllinator receiver that disables the cursor. You'll be able to choose music to play, videos to watch (which will probably be sackbots inside of a hologram stage), etc.

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and join!

The Team
We need all the help we can get! But for full time contributers, here is a list of people we're looking for:

Window Designers - These are the people who will work on the window design, UI design, etc.
Logicians - This group of people will collaborate with content designers to create cool stuff, like games and a music player!
Content Designers - These guys will make all the stuff within the windows, like interactive buttons, and minigame design
Thinkers - These people will collaborate with everyone and contribute ideas for new features, and will do random small jobs. This is mainly for the people who want to help, but are not very good at designing or logic
Supervisors - These will be advanced team members who will work within all of the different groups and supervise the overall level
Composers - These will make custom music and sound effects for games, the music player, etc.
Detail Artists - These guys will put the finishing touces on everything and refine details

How to join
Submit a request with what you can contribute, what group you want to be in (NOTE: you can be a hybrid, working in multiple groups. I don't people who will specialize in one single group. In fact, I encourage it). Describe how often you can work on it, and if you are a full time contributer, or just someone who wants to help by contributing little stuff, like minigames or ideas.

Team Members so far:
Bloblblobl - Supervisor/Logician

Remember, this is only an idea, and all I've made so far is a main window and the cursor, so don't expect this to be the most detailed explanation you'll ever get. This is just a rough draft. I'll be updating this thread as the project moves along, if it starts at all.

Also, please no haters

I'll opt in for a detail artist. I can work on some sprites for the buttons and things. I won't be contributing much but I'll do what I have time for. 2011-02-07 01:49:00

Ok great! I'll send you some PMs with stuff that you can do, but you probably won't have anything to do till next weekend cuz I'm still building the main foundation. Actually, how about as a first sort of mission, design a cool looking cursor, and either post a pic of it, or make a level, and I'll check it out. Again, real work on this project will probably start next weekend2011-02-07 02:22:00

Yes, yes, I will! It's just a filler name for now. I thought that was obvious. The team will decide on one later. So, are you going to join, or was that just a comment?2011-02-09 00:44:00
