Space like background, which can transition to Earth

OK, so I'm making a level which involves going from earth orbit, down to earth and then back to space all in a player controlled vehicle. There are two things which I'm not sure how to do... :star:The first is making a good looking space like background with stars and stuff, I don't need any fancy parallax effect here, just a static starry backgrounds, preferably made from lights rather than stickers. Then I need this background to transition smoothly to the normal world background (or something I've made) to look like earth. :star:The next thing I'm not sure about is how to get the player to go where I want them to, given that they have a vehicle that can fly anywhere. Was thinking about making some clouds of poisonous gas in space and saying they are areas of deadly radiation or something, would prefer something more subtle though - want the player to feel free to go wherever they want but still direct them where I want them to go.... The starscape material mentioned above is the best bet, and is not as boring as a static background. Can't remember where you get it though. On your second point, how about setting a radius for controlling the players movement. For example if the vehicle strays too far away from the play area then they "lose radio signal" and the ship/ vehicle becomes uncontrollable. You could use 2 tag sensors for that, one to give a warning onces the vehicles leaves the designated area, and a second tag sensor with a slightly bigger radius but once you go out of that you epace the conrol scheming to make the ship unusable. Starfield is located in the Cosmos, in the level "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Negativitron". http://wiki.lbpcentral.com/Set_The_Controls_For_The_Heart_Of_The_Negativitron It is item 15. I do not remember where it is, though. You can also, for a transition, use a movie camera on your object, which transitions to another one upon going down to earth. If you set this right, you can get a rather nice effect, I think.
