Super Bowl XLV

Hey guys. Today is the Super Bowl XLV, an American event about (American) football. This is the last game of the season, so people are going all out for this thing, again: commercials, fans, coaches yelling, etc. You name it.

So, who do you think is going to win?

The two teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers.

Personally, I'm hoping that the Steelers are going to win. They've been having a really good season, despite the fact they almost lost to a rookie team (but isn't everybody losing to the rookies?). And if that doesn't go as plan, there's always the Super Bowl commercials to look froward to.

Go Packers! that is all

Ha in my opinion I could care less about this one since I'm not a fan of either team and actually don't like them in general. So if I had to cheer for one team...I wouldn't....go commercials! Hahaha

I know right! I prefer watching the game for the entertainment, but if commercials were a team I would start the fan club!

Okay, not really. But I really like the commercials... that and my state's team didn't make it, so might as well pick one of those two teams. :/

Haha, reminds me of a Superbowl joke I heard.

A teacher was making her class recite "I'M A CHEESE HEAD!" over and over again. One child would not comply, and repeatedly said, "I'm a Steelers fan!" The teacher asked her why this was so. The child responded,"Because my parents are!" The teacher was frustrated, and she said, "What if your dad was an idiot and your mom was a moron? Would you still be a Steelers fan?"

The child said, "No, I'd be a Cheesehead."

I'd like to see the Packers win big. l'm sick of seeing the Steelers, Colts, and Patriots anywhere near the Super Bowl.

Can't believe the Saints lost in the first round though...

People do that on a regular basis, no need for a football game to do it.

Packers up 21-3! C:

Yeah, the commercials have been alright... Way too many commercials for movies. Surprisingly enough, one of the funniest commercials was a commercial for a local supermarket.

What's our world coming to?

So that was possibly the worst half time show ever. Right down to the over sexual brass section.
So 0-2 on the musical performances tonight, considering Christina butchered the anthem. Not even Usher can save this train wreck.

Also was exactly as expected. Lots of overly complicated choreography, lights, explosions, and that big compilation of known songs with strange cameos that make no sense.

So far I've hated the half-time show, I already don't like the Black Eyed Peas but they're even worse live. Then they had to go and defecate all over a classic song. :/

I used to like them a lot till they turned into Fergie and auto-tune. After that.. no thanks.

And why yes, they did poo all over poor Usher. I mean, that must be what you said was "classic." Simply must!

Game!! (spoilers)
Green Bay wins. They might have beaten us in the playoffs, but they at least beat the Steelers.
31-25. It's gonna be a good week.

I stayed up 'til about 4:30am my time.

It was a great game, despite my Falcons not being in it... Still, I put money on the Packers with some mates (surprisingly, half my geography class were watching it, along with a lot of other people from college... we have geography at like 9:30 tomorrow, people will be dead....) and it was a very good game to watch.

Why is it called American "Football" when they use their hands on the ball a majority of the time? It should be called "American Rugby";

And why call "Football" "Soccer" - when they 'do' use their feet a majority of the time?

And "Packers" ?!
What an unfortunate name for a team... sounds like a euphemism

We gave them the name soccer. It's our fault...

I couldn't possibly say why it's football, given that they only really kick it for kick offs, punts, PAT attempts and field goals, but whatever, it's a name.

Also, Packers only sounds euphemistic if you make it so. When the team was formed it didn't sound bad.

I maintain that American sports > others. Excluding F1, my favourite sport (well, league) is the NHL, closely followed by NFL. Football (soccer) is full of girls, and i just don't really enjoy Rugby.

Edit: I don't have a problem with Fergie being on my TV. I love Slash. But they should have just had Slash play while she danced or something... No need to butcher Sweet Child O' Mine...

So the Burglars won against the Meat Packers when they competed in the Megadish? =P

Admittedly I only watched it for the commercials, especially the movie trailers. So excited for Captain America!!! =D

During the halftime, I thought Fergie sounded better than Axel singing "Sweet Child O' Mine", lol. Even with differing opinions on how they sounded, I think they should be given credit for the well made light show, and the surprise appearances from Slash and Usher were pretty cool.

Just leave. Now. Please don't make me angry.

it was one o the worst live performances of that song ever, for how to sing with Slash well, see Myles Kennedy. That man is amazing. Fergie looks good, she doesn't sound it.

**** yes.

Fergie was so horribly bad. Sounded better than Axl? You're deaf. Myles is close, but Axl (at his peak) was so much better.

Finally someone uses that bold line that was desperately needed. Since, uhh.. just look at him now and even try to say he's at all good. In any way. Even stage presence (when he actually shows up for concerts) is nothing.
As for the massively overrated, guitar playing top hat.. different story.

*True Story*
I used to hang around in some pretty Rock & Roll circles, back when my band were on the verge of success.
One time we were supporting a pretty successfull punk band - and got talking backstage about rock&roll stories.
This Punk band had once supported Guns & Roses, and as the lead guitarist had told it to me... "Slash (acting like a big shot) takes a big puff on a huge joint and a massive swig on a bottle of jack daniels just before going out on stage - so I thought, "That there is Slash's Spliff & JD - I'm having some of that"... takes a puff on the joint - *cough* It's a herbal ciggarette!!! - takes a swig on the JD *splutter* ... It's Iced Tea!!!"

Slash is a fraud

Fair enough, I probably shouldn't have said she sounded better, just different. For the most part in music I'm an easy fan of covers. Is this one of the greatest examples of that? No. I would instead point to things like Power of Love by I Fight Dragons or Mr. Brightside by Paul Anka. However, my point remains that I'm a fan of different. I'm also not generally a big critic when it comes to music, so things and people that annoy other people I'm not generally bothered by (Bieber being an exception).
