A warning to new players...

Archive: 7 posts

It amazes me the number of posts I see from players complaining that their profile has been corrupted by some horrible glitch, and they now face the prospect of having to start the whole game again from scratch because they didn't back up their save.

So, let's establish this fact right now. LBP2 is jam-packed with potentially game destroying bugs and glitches, and we are all at risk of losing our story progress and personal creations any time we play this game. You can protect yourself however, by adopting a mindset right from the beginning.

Every time you quit create mode and return to your pod, save a backup of the level you were working on.

Every time you complete a level and earn new prizes, or whenever it comes to the end of a play session and you are going to bed for the night, back up your profile.

Rotate your saves using multiple files. Do not run the risk of overwriting your only good profile with corrupt data. PS3 has one hell of a lot of memory space to save your stuff, so use it.

For an added sense of security, I would also advise you to publish a locked version of your work in progress level at the end of each create session.

Doing these things may add an extra minute or two to your overall play time each day, but when you finally get hit by that bug that destroys everything you have worked so hard towards, those back up saves will be worth more to you than pure gold.

I know that to many LBP veterans , these precautions will already be second nature, but we also have a steady flow of newcomers who may not be aware of the risks, so to them I say....you have been warned!

When creating... these tips are all second nature. Must admit though, since at the moment I am merely playing--I never thought about it. Time to back-up the Ol' Profile!2011-02-06 13:49:00

I haven't really been reading up on the glitches...is this the pod glitch that causes it? Or is there something else that can break your profile?2011-02-06 14:34:00

It should be second nature to back up ANY game save you have when done playing a game. I always back up my saves, for all games that allow it, when I'm done to a USB drive.

Overkill? Probably. But you never know when your PS3 is gonna bite the big one, I'm on my 3rd. And because I always back up I've only lost a couple hours of play, not hundreds.

Ha, yeah.
I had to do that x4 grapple/grab pin three times now since it crashed soon after leaving the group.
I must remember to have an extra back up online also.

Good advice, and something which I've never given any thought to before. Maybe Ungreth isn't such a grouch after all?

I'm gonna go find out about publishing locked levels, although I've haven't yet finished any levels, the idea of having something up there is just... just... awesome.

I have a tutorial that goes a lot further than this.

Backing Up Your Files (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=44272-Backing-up-all-LBP-files)

It pretty Much safeguards from most forms of data loss in general.
