I finished 3 units.. everytime Im in the middle of a game and football or hockey(Usually the reasons) or some show i like shows up, I usually just leave it on for that. It's a great thing to do, and it contributes greatly if you think so or not. I recommend it to anyone when they just have to leave somewhere for a while, leave it on. =)2008-11-16 04:01:00

Folding at home is a great idea on how we can help to find a cure for certain diseases. But now it is call " Life With Playstation " It is like a news program that does the same benefit, except your looking at the news on your PS3. Its a great idea. 2008-11-16 21:36:00

Essientally, you're sending the excess power of your PS3 to some lab so they can use that energy to find a cure for cancer.

Unfortunatly the PS3 sucks up too much leccy to make it worth leaving on for things that have no entertainment value.2008-11-17 01:31:00

Nevertheless, it helps cure something. Which in the end it's a good thing. So in conclusion - Folding@home = Good.

I get questioned about this when I do it.. but basically I run the PS3 24/7. The first thing I do when I'm heading off to bed, is sit it on "life with playstation" and just let it fold for about 20 hours a night... (from the time I start LwP to the time I get on it the next day).

And no: I've never had a problem with my system when I do it...

Current Stats:

Score 109594 (certificate)
Donator Rank 40228 of 1129958
WU 430 (certificate)

What is protein folding and how is folding linked to disease?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.

Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

what they do. protein folding is related to diseses so they try to understand it more

Yeah yeah, it's an old thread, but I did not want to start a new discussion about it.

I do fold on my PS3. If I turn the PS3 on and then am active during the day I'll often have it folding when I'm not actvely using it.

I can't get my exact stats up now, but I've done 152 work units now.

A tip to make it process faster is to turn off or unplug unnecessary controllers, and turn off the music. The idea is to get as much spare processing power to do this number crunching as possible.

Isn't it just a tool for juicing electricity out of you while you're not using the PS3?
