Top down rpg

If I was for example making a top down rpg like with a walking person, does anyone have any clues or tips on how to make it appear like he's walking?? :s it's really bugging me as iv made the level just can't figure how to make the characters etc..

Have you played the classic zelda level? I believe all of the character movements are just a series of different images being put out by emitters to follow the dcs inputs. Most likely with direction splitters set up for left/right or up/down respectively. So it would be like DCS to the advanced mover and to two directional splitters, each splitters output to the the corresponding animation.2011-02-06 13:21:00

Maybe have pistons attached to the character, moving at 0.1 seconds and a 1 second pause if it's a classic RPG, a slower time if it's a more modern top-downer, and they move up and down like legs in front of the person in the layer behind the persons body. Makes it look life they're moving....
