Mover Platform Help!

Archive: 14 posts

Firstly.... ARRRGHHH!

Ahem.

I have a section of my level which has a platform which moves left to right on a cycle using movers.
However, when sackboy jumps on the platform it stops for a second then carries on.
Is there any way to stop this?

Is there any reason for not using a piston in this situation? May be easier that way.

Edit: If you do need to use movers, check the strength is set to maximum, and I assume you're using anti grav object tweaker, it may be that the dampening have adverse effects? try tinkering with that.

Sorry, I should have explained it a bit better. (Pistons won't work for this)
A platform 2 layers deep is moved forward using a in/out mover then another piece also 2 layers deep moves back using another in/out mover, allowing the first to move.
Make sense?

The pushing strength is set to infinite and the Acceleration is 100% with Deceleration at 0%.

Hey Wilkesy,

In all honesty I'm trying to piture your set up, I guess you mean that one platform moves forward allowing one to then pass sideways behind it? If thats the case I'll try and replicate that set up an see how it looks then we may be able to figure out why its going wrong!

Let me know if my above assumption of your set up is incorrect!

A ONE layer (not two *wilkesyspaz*) piece moves back alowing a two layer piece to move left and right infront of it. Yup.2011-02-06 22:27:00

Let me have a play when I'm next on and I'll see if we can get this sorted for ya.

Anyone had any joy?
I've fiddled with friction, everything. Still nothing. If it doesn't stop it slides

Perhaps if you publish a minimal example of the problem in a copyable level, it would be easier to diagnose.2011-02-08 22:53:00

great idea.
Should only take a few moments

While you do that, another quick idea, what material are you using? a heavy metal one or a light material? Heavy materials may have the characteristics you have described.

Sorry I have not had a chance to do any testing yet!

Stone is the surrounding object cardboard is the platform.

Here is the LBP.me link for the test.

Looks like the problem is a simple case of friction between the two materials. I just attached a Material Tweaker to the back wall, set Friction to 0, and it works fine, but it tends to slip around.

A better solution might be to be change the platform from cardboard to a heavier material. Bear in mind that the force that a Mover provides is relative to the mass of the object it's attached to, and since the force of gravity that Sackboy generates, when standing on the platform, is so high relative to the Mover's force, it will tend to jam. Changing the cardboard to metal also solves the problem.

I had a feeling that might be the issue. Looks like this idea will have to wait for another level. I need all platforms to match which'll mean making a sticker. Metal/stone doesn't sticker well.

Many thanks for taking a look
