They came from my nightmares

All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream. -Edgar Allan Poe Stuck in a purgatory of death and sleep, you find yourself alone in a rickety old house. You can hear something in basement.. but something doesn't feel quite right. Battle your inner demons and deal with your loss of sanity while the world falls apart around you. This is my attempt at making a legitimate horror level in Little Big Planet 2. I hope you guys enjoy it! http://lbp.me/v/xfpj0s | 2011-02-05 19:35:00 Author: automatica Posts: 33 |
I have added it to my queue and will try it later and leave feedback. If you get a chance could you try mine, the info is in my sig. | 2011-02-05 20:06:00 Author: mr_b_ram Posts: 40 |

I played it this morning, and I really liked it There were definitely a couple of parts that were really freaky and I think you exploited the notion that the scariest things are the things that you never quite see (and you did a nice job of not quite showing them). Two things I think could be improved: - Lighting: When there are parts of the level that are completely black, you really can tick off the people that are playing it and disconnect them from the experience. In most horror movies, even when characters are in complete blackness, usually there is usually some blue fill so that the viewer can see the person even while still understanding that it is pitch black. I think that your pools of light are very harsh and you can soften them up by making them less bright and expanding the radius, which will also have the benefit of slightly illuminating the edges of your objects. - Story: there is a bit of a disconnect after each nightmare ends and the main character winds up in his bed. I think you can rectify it maybe by adding a little more text, but also keeping the light and decorations in the bedroom the same so that each time we come back to it, we're know exactly where we are. All in all, I really liked it! | 2011-02-07 18:01:00 Author: Chazprime Posts: 587 |
Thanks Chazprime! I'll definitely be making improvements to the level so I appreciate your suggestions. | 2011-02-07 18:21:00 Author: automatica Posts: 33 |
I want to thank everyone who played this level for all the positive recognition. It means a lot! | 2011-02-10 19:19:00 Author: automatica Posts: 33 |
This is a great level man, this is the first Horror level Ive seen in LBP2 and a good one, and not to mention one of the first to creep the heck out of me. Its awesome to see someone making a horror level who understand horror and wow your really good at this . The part where the ghost comes from the left and chases you that was pretty creepy and of course the My fav part, the ending scene, I loved it, and the music fit so perfectly well, good use of transitions there. Great job cant wait to see what else you come up with next. | 2011-02-10 19:27:00 Author: Bloo_boy Posts: 1019 |

This sounds very interesting. Consider it queued! I'll return with feedback once I've played it. If you have the time between playing everyone else's levels, I'd appreciate it if you could check out Director's Cut, in my sig. Thanks! | 2011-02-11 18:08:00 Author: Jonny_Segment Posts: 35 |
Promising this. Queued... | 2011-02-11 19:12:00 Author: FourteenInchGaz Posts: 110 |
Just "experienced" this (a more applicable term I feel) and left feedback in game. I'd just like to add that whilst I dont particularly like the fumbling around in the dark, it didn't really detract from my experience of your level...If anything, the sense of disorientation increased the tension. Oh, I never mentioned on the review I gave how brilliant the mood music and spot effects were. Truly fabulous! | 2011-02-11 21:28:00 Author: FourteenInchGaz Posts: 110 |
where does this thread think its going? Get back up to the top! Just played it or should I say got played by it. Pros: This was more a work of art then a level imo. I don't think you need to change a thing. The black areas were great because I was constantly expecting something to be scared of. When I saw light I thought "oh look light, light is safe right?". Thats when you would send a moving figure across the screen. That part with the figure that moved ( looked like the creatures from the village I thought) It sent a little chill down my back and I might have farted, I cant remember, but it was great! I am not sure if this was based on an Edger Allan Poe work but it felt like I was playing through a poem and I really liked that feeling. Cons: At times it is a little confusing where to go, but that will only scare away players that might not really appreciate the level for what it is anyways. I think every thing you made was for a purpose and it worked. That is not so much a con but more a sacrifice that an artist as to make at times to stay true to what they wanted to make. Conclusion: As you can tell I enjoyed it very much and I would like to see more levels like this from you. I was working on a level series called Incubus Sector that involved the "dark side" of LBP. It was comprised of creators like Hate, and Fear. I was going to make a world for each one. This felt like Fear's world and I really liked that feeling. If your up for it maybe you could contribute some work If I ever pick that story back up. Here is my latest level if you wanted to give it a spin: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=48580-Run! | 2011-02-12 01:36:00 Author: Siljin Posts: 76 |

I'll most definitely give your level a go when I get a chance. This project of yours sounds amazing and I would love to contribute what I can. There are plenty of ideas still floating around in my head that I didn't have a chance to implement into this level. What I Liked: - Your fantastic work with atmosphere. I love horror. It's not something you see in LBP very often, if ever. I was not expecting a whole lot, but man, there were parts of this that really got me freaked out. Freaked out in LittleBigPlanet is not easy, but you aced it. - The camera work was really great. Felt very cinematic. - Really cool idea reusing the same location under different circumstances. I tried to do something similar in my level to lesser effect. What I Didn't Like: - This is really nitpicky, but if you have proper punctuation in the title, that would be good. I don't know why that bothers me. - The lighting at points is a bit dark, but I didn't have any problems navigating the level. Awesome stuff. Looking forward to you doing more stuff in this vein. | 2011-02-12 05:21:00 Author: alexstone108 Posts: 15 |
Thank you, alexstone. What bothers you about the title? I will gladly change it if I have it written incorrectly lol. Is it because it's all in sentence case as opposed to title case? | 2011-02-12 06:57:00 Author: automatica Posts: 33 |
Yeah, it's really no big deal, but I know personally I would be quicker to dismiss a level if it wasn't punctuated as a title. It gives the appearance that they half-assed the level, to me at least. You clearly did not half-*** the level, but people might not be willing to find out. But if it's a matter of artistic license, by all means keep it. | 2011-02-12 07:11:00 Author: alexstone108 Posts: 15 |
Autimatica: here is that level I was talking about with the idea of Hate and Fear etc. I was thinking of getting a group together to start working on it. It's just a prologue but if you like the story maybe we can work on it together: http://lbp.me/v/prvvmx There might me some glitches from the LBP1 conversion but you get the point of it. | 2011-02-12 17:19:00 Author: Siljin Posts: 76 |

I think this is an amazing concept for a series and I would love to contribute. Just let me know what you're looking for and I'll start creating straight away. | 2011-02-12 22:59:00 Author: automatica Posts: 33 |
Great level my friend. I'd love to see some more in the same vein from you, it's a pretty fantastic concept you have going here. | 2011-02-13 05:16:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Hey great work man. Thought it was 'spooky' loved how you 'reused' the same (but different) scene over a few times, classic horror style there. Edit: Oh yeah and that music from Eve's theme, god so ******* perfect and creepy. | 2011-02-14 05:14:00 Author: LukeCF Posts: 790 |
Thanks guys. I just started production on another horror level with a bigger emphasis on the story. Siljin, if you feel you want to use this next one for your project then by all means. I'll give you early access so we can work on getting it synced with your project, provided you like it, of course. Also, if you have any suggestions as to what your looking for in the level, let me know. I'll message you in game as well just in case you don't end up reading this, in which case I've been talking to myself Whether it's part of a bigger project or not, I'm excited to get it finished. I have some big ideas for this one so hopefully I'm able to pull it off. | 2011-02-14 14:36:00 Author: automatica Posts: 33 |
