Need help selecting either deathmatch or capture the flag for my Vs. level, via menu

Archive: 6 posts

hi there, i already have a deathmatch vs level "Rooftop Arena". i planned to add a capure the flag to it as a game mode.
all spawnpoints n weapons are already in place. seems i can publish it as either deathmatch or capture the flag easily as i have working arrow holograms that emit n latch onto sackboys with follows and movers wen they spawn on or pass the player sensor attached to the emitter on checkpoints around the level and the flag emits into the centre of the map and will respawn there. the arrow will turn to face the direction of the flag

the idea is from nuclearfish, here is his level which is awesome, from the beta http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NSf70Rs2uw

as of right now i have randomisers attacted to spawnpoints so players are immediately put in game at the start and the 3 minute timer starts ticking

so basically emitters both capture the flag componenets. what i want to happen is the game starts and a menu appears with. no countdown timer started yet, tho even though i guess everyone will have spawned, tho with player 1 in the controllinator picking the gamemode from the menu. then supposing the player picks capture the flag i guess the emitters then become turned on and the capture the flag mode then is in place?? at the same time as the players then being able to spawn in the game level at one of the random spawnpoints and the game is then in play..

how would i achieve this??

whats the best way to go with this? alternative suggestions also appreciate.

thanks in advance.

thanks guys, please help

I don't believe there's any way to control the timer once you've selected/started the VS mode on a level - it just starts as soon as all players are spawned. However, I'm not the expert on this matter, as I've only looked at the settings - I've never created a VS level myself.

I would guess that you would have to create your own timer. Don't start it until your mode has been selected and hook the output up to a Game Ender (one of the VS time modes is infinite, yes?). But this is a guess.

I faced the same problem with my level.

As long as there's Movie Camera active with "Disable Controllers" on, or a Magic Mouth active with "Movie Camera" on, the timer will pause, but, since controllers are disabled, you can't control a menu system at the same time.

Instead of making your own timer, you could pass the result of the menu data to a sublevel via the Score Giver, but it's kinda complicated.

Aya042 what do you mean when you say "you could pass the result of the menu data to a sublevel via the Score Giver"?2011-02-09 16:26:00

Well, since a player's score is transferred when they enter a sublevel, you can use that fact to encode information in the score, and then detect with with Score Sensor in the sublevel. A simple example might be to give them 10 points if they choose option 1, 20 points for option 2, etc. Then you check how much score they have upon starting the sublevel, and you know which option they chose.
