I published a cool level that is mostly fun difficult platforming. The unique part of my level is that at certain points it rotates and you have to go back through the same section sideways or upside down. It took a lot of planning to make it work so please give it a try and let me know what you think.

This level has been re-published under a new name with some new features. I will put some new pictures up shortly.

Updates: Name
Looks
Replaced MM objects with custom ones.
More points and a race for scoring fun.

This level sounds pretty innovative. I can't try it out but here's hoping someone gives it a good review.2008-11-15 20:01:00

Your the first person on any of the LBP forums to say anything.
I hope the movie is anywhere near as good as the original.

I hope that the rumors of the new ending are wrong.

>_< Seriously. Completely ruining the main "villian"'s motives? How does framing Dr. Manhatten have ANYTHING to do with what the motives were in the comic?!

But meh, I withdraw...

I haven't been following any of that, but it does sound terrible. Hopefully it isn't true. I have heard that the director want it to be like 3 hours long, but the studio wants it shorter(as always).

Oops we got off topic. Did anyone play the level?

I completely re-designed the look of the level. Check it out.

Thanks for playing guys.

I am still making updates, trying to make it look better and made the balloon part less annoying, give it another whirl.

Yeah my girlfriend struggled on the balloon bit but i tried and did it first time lol, its clear how you're meant to do it but just fiddly to get it right, nice idea though! The actual level design is top notch, i love rotating the level, its a stroke of genius! also especially loved the bit where the fists come from the wall and punch you back, made me smile 2009-01-03 13:24:00

Cool level. I can't imagine how long it took you to plan out the turning of the level. The effect is very well done and the layout is well designed to be interesting in all rotations.

The platforming is a bit on the difficult side, but I didn't think it was too bad. Just need to have a little patience. I did have a frustrating time with the boxing glove. I actually died trying to get past it my first time. The other frustrating moment were the "bubbles", where you have to jump up them. I tried that for like 10 minutes to no avail, but then suddenly got it. Is there a trick to it?

Other than that, I didn't have too many frustrating moments. Like I said, it's difficult, but you do a good job of giving the player plenty of checkpoints. Although, are you using the same checkpoints on the way back? During the "bubble" jump, I hit the spikes and that meant my last life on the most recent checkpoint. But I know that I hadn't died yet. I assumed it was so low because of my deaths on the boxing glove.

Anyway, nice challenging level, with a well done rotating mechanic.

The trick to the bubbles is just to tap jump repeatedly, if you only jump once they don't have enough lift to get you to the top.

You are correct about the checkpoints, they are the same ones you used on the way there as on the way back. I made them all double checkpoints to try and make up for that.

I just gotta say great work on maintaining your level and updating it often Walter. I absolutely loved this level as you know, and I'm happy the thread has been brought up from the depths of hell haha

Play this level everyone! It really is ingenious

Oh! Your video is done! It was done yesterday too but I forgot to add it.

Sorry it took so long but your level was so long that I was having trouble with the filesize. Anyway, it's done now. I'm about to edit it into your post.

Oh and by the way guys this level gets the BassDeluxe Seal of Approval.

This was a very well-executed idea. This is the type of level where you have to think abstractly about how the level runs not only right side up, but sideways, and upside-down, too. That must have been confusing to plan out. I'm astounded by the mastery of the level design here. It really is great, and it's something someone like myself would love to try to strive for down the road.

I thought the level would be rather short, but not at all. This is a very thorough, complex level that not only looks good, but it's mostly a blast to play.

There were only two parts that were annoying to me.

When you're going downward along those mill wheels, it's difficult to see where you're supposed to land. This meant I'd die because I couldn't see where a safe landing was.

Also, the punching glove on the ice. I didn't die at it, but that was just more annoying and frustrating than fun-- even if it didn't take long to pass (maybe 7-10 tries IIRC).

I saw score bubbles beyond the scoreboard, but I have no idea how to reach them without triggering the end of the level.

I think I got fourth or something. I tried to heart it, but it wouldn't do it.

Would you be upset to know that I mostly made stuff up as I went? Of course this took forever, because I kept having to go back and fix things.

The bubbles on the other side of the score board might not be possible with one player, but it is easy with two.

That's actually how I create my levels, too. lol
Mostly improvisatory. :3

Good work regardless.

You can look at mine if you want. You don't have to if you don't want to though.

I didn't

My two levels for far have just been starting with a level concept/mechanic, than make stuff up until I reach the end. I have a general idea, but no details. This works ok, except requires a lot of tweaking.

Yo, Rorscarch, if that is your real name, I came in to apologize.
The first time I played through the level I had a bad experience, after playing through it with friends I felt it deserved a bit better a score than 7/10.
So, it's been re-scored to 8.5 / 10. This is a profoundly well designed level man.

Mention of re-scoring can be found here. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=7602)

I commented on this level in the review, but never gave it any real feedback. The looks aren't too great, as it looks like just a big mash up of different materials and colors... and the spacing of some of the areas seems too claustrophobic and cramped for really bouncy and fun platforming (which is obviously a side effect of the need for the platforming to function in several different directions), but the challenge was great, very rewarding, and the whole mechanic of flipping the level was done perfectly.

I'm amazed at how well you got that to work and activate from multiple switch points. The boxing glove emitter was really cool, I think that was my favorite platforming part. Also the part where it tells you "now go back" and you have to navigate the water wheels... if you made some custom wheel machines of your own right there I would like it alot more.

I've played through this a few times with different people just to show them how cool it is, and I recommended it to a friend of mine who likes challenging levels. I think I was like #7 the last time I played, but am probably way behind now... it's challenging in a rewarding way and structured in a way that aceing it is daunting, but still seems possible.

If I do go back and change anything in this level, these would be the two parts I would want to change. The visuals, and the water wheel section. The water wheels are my least favorite of the challenges, and they are MM objects so they are kinda lame.

But I will be PS3 free for 4 months starting on Monday when I go to Hong Kong, so it will be a long time before I come back to this level.

I really like the wheel part, actually, I would just prefer them to be custom. I think with all the MGS textures (not VR) we got now, you could probably find a really slick look.2009-01-24 03:56:00

Yeah, the MGS textures would be cool. I was thinking maybe I could add a simple plot like the whole thing was some kind of experiment. I'm sure it would be lame, but better than nothing.
