Disabling certain commands (esp. jumping) in a sackbot?

Archive: 6 posts

I'm very close to finishing my tech demo, but there's at least one issue I'm having with it...

In the zero gravity I've set up, if one were to jump, they would leap very high and very fast. I have invisible kill boundaries all around so that could mean a near-instant trip to vaporization.

In the way I've set it up at the moment, the sackbot you control can roam in an area where there is gravity and the rest of the level where there isn't. In the area where there is gravity, the bot will have to jump in order to reach the switch to turn gravity off and be able to float into space.

Would anyone reading this happen to know how, if possible, to disable certain commands in a controllable sackbot, mainly jumping but when under a certain condition?

You can create a combo of a wireless and a non-wireless controllinator. Have the non-wireless one overridding the sackbot, and have the wireless one output the commands you need into the overriding controllinator. With this you can omit anything you want.2011-02-05 11:53:00

To disable jumping, just tweak the sackbot and set it to no jumping. Attach a variety of switches and gizmos to alter it.2011-02-05 15:08:00

Unfortunately, since the sackbot is remote controlled, it is automatically acting. Therefore, such options like jumping cannot be tweaked.

However, I've tried a different approach and finally found a solution! An anti-gravity tweaker with Anti-Gravity and Zero Buoyancy at 100%, but Dampening maybe at around 30%.

If Dampening were at 100%, though it would come to a complete stop, no matter what. Nothing would carry it away, which is not what I want. At around 30%, it would jump almost like normal, but it would quickly slow down and stop in mid-air. Also, it can still get carried away by moving objects. I'll need to play around with the Dampening more to find the perfect percentage.

Nevertheless, I give my thanks to both of you, Foofles and FEAR, for trying to help out!

Thank you so much Foofles. I have had the same problem in disabling controls and it has stumped me for hours but the solution you suggested just made me feel so stupid.
