It's only been a week since we were told that the European Home beta expansion was pretty close and that the open beta was expected "within weeks," but now TedTheDog has updated us with some more information regarding the current situation. Don't panic -- it's all good news. Here's how the whole situation will play out.

Firstly the version 1.0 patch notes will be made available for those currently in the Home beta. They will be published in the closed beta forums, but don't be surprised if they spill out of there shortly thereafter. A few days after that version 1.0 will go live. Within a day or so of that invitations will be sent out as the closed beta gets significantly expanded as a load test for the servers. The open beta will begin shortly afterwards (a matter of weeks).

So there we have it. We'll let you know when any of the above actually happens, as usual. Can you taste it? It's close. We just hope version 1.0 brings some significant updates to the service like, for example, some actual content. Here's hoping.

Fiinally.. Bout time we got something. Shame we only get it for 3 bloomin weeks.

Finally! After years of waiting, looks like Home is finally to release to the masses. Version 1.00 of the Home client has been released to beta testers. The new Home moves from the "Game" section of the XMB to the more appropriate "PlayStation Network" area.

A slew of changes have hit Home in its 1.00 update. The virtual PSP has disappeared, replaced with an easier-to-use Menu Pad (pictured). Various areas of Home have been renamed. An Online Manual and Tutorial have been added, to make it easier to understand the numerous features of Home. Players will now be able to background download new Home areas -- it was a big hassle having to wait for a few minutes before loading each new area.

One of the big features of 1.00 is the Clubs system. This feature allows players to create clubhouses, where up to 32 players can meet. Although this feature is free to beta testers, it will be a paid service when Home rolls out to the public.

The new 1.00 beta looks like a significant improvement over previous versions of the service. Now, we're going to wait for Sony to officially release the service to the entire PlayStation Network community.

We know the open beta will be out at some point this year, but we're not sure when, exactly. In the meantime the closed beta is going to get a lot busier, with over 100,000 European beta invites being sent out. Today.

This is in preparation for a load test that will be taking place tonight. Another larger expansion will be taking place next Thursday, as well as another load test. Version 1.00 is definitely an improvement over previous iterations (having the service full of people definitely makes a difference), with Sony firmly stressing that this is the beginning of the journey, with plenty more updates and additions to come.		2008-11-15 16:41:00

100% Agreed. They've been talking about Home FOREVER now. I guess they think it's "building up the suspense" or something so they can talk about something big in all of their ads and stuff. But now, since Xbox 360 basically bought off the Wii's and PS3's ideas, I'm pretty sure Sony's getting pretty mad now and going to release it soon.

I'm guessing it's based on previous beta's taken part, time on PSN, and activity on PSStore.

A club is an organization for users that share the same objectives. Clubhouse is a private place for members of a club to gather around. Even users that are not added to your Friends List can request to join or get invited.

* You have to purchase a club before using it. But during Closed Beta test you can use it for free.

* Each user account can only create one club.

* The maximum number of members for each club is 32, including the creator.

* The maximum number of clubs each user can join is 5, including the one created by that user.

* Users that are not members of the club will not be able to enter the associated clubhouse.

* You can add furniture to the clubhouse.

* Bulletin Board is available in the clubhouse. Only the leader (owner of the clubhouse) or subleaders (assigned by the leader) can post messages on the board.

* Maximum number of messages to be posted at the same time is 4.

Note: if you have joined 5 clubs already, then you cannot create your own club.

※ To learn more about how to create a club, please refer to Menu Pad > ?Help? > ?Clubs?.

※ You have to set up your PlayStation?Network wallet before purchasing a club.

※ Club is a service that requires regular payment. During Closed Beta test users can enjoy this service free of charge.

I heard from some guy who heard from the offical forums apparrently that beta keys will be shareable... not too sure if true or whatever.

Anyway, I also heard that beta keys can be used on any account apparently- some guy said he got a Japanese beta key, but it worked good on his American one, even with an English language thingie.

About clubs... I wouldn't pay to join them (if you need to pay to join), and with only 32 people allowed it ruins any hopes of us being able to have a forum club... Yep >_<

Are the clubs exclusive, as in you need an invite to get in? But wouldn't that mean that one person would get stuck with having to pay for it? Perhaps they get special abilities?

Home's much cooler than I thought. You actually do see people going places together, hanging out, etc. You can reorganize your furniture(or stack it in a corner if you'd like), and you can change wallpaper as well. I have to say, Home's surprised me. I actually might use it.

And, Clank, the quote you provided doesn't exactly clear up RockSauron's question. We already know it's a paid service, but we don't know if one person pays for it or every club member contributes. I would assume it would be the former, though.		2008-11-22 00:11:00

I've been on Home for a little bit.

It's nice if you're into chat rooms as that's essentially what it is first and foremost. There's also some games to play like pool and chess.

It may not be the most reliable website, but it's something. Looks highly likely Home could be 18+ for the time being as it'll technically still be in beta phasing when it's released to everyone. We'll just have to see, huh?

Among the details revealed include the following:

- Home Open Beta will begin either December 15th or the 30th.
- There will be a random weather system (producing rain, snow, etc)
- There will be a currency system
- Home Open Beta will be only be for users 18+

Speaking to website Gamasutra, PlayStation Home Director Jack Buser has described avatars such as Nintendo's Miis as "par for the course" this hardware generation, but insisted that Home's contributions in this area would "leapfrog" the competition.

"Avatars are now considered "par for the course" when it comes to next-generation consoles these days, sure," he said, "but we think we've taken it a step further because we also have that personal space for your avatar."

"Users can express themselves in more ways than just how their avatar looks," Buser explained. "That's important, because in the real world you might learn some things about a person by the way that they're dressed or the things that they talk about, but you don't really know someone until you see how they live. Do they have dishes in the sink, what posters did they put on the wall?"

Providing that personal space is important, said Buser, because the decline of the arcade has meant that western gamers have fewer places to hang out.

"We really see this as revolutionizing the concept of the "friends list" for console gamers," he said. "Before, your friends were either people you already knew or people you'd met in a specific game, and with the latter, you'd probably only ever play that one game with them, and never really get to know them."

"PlayStation Home gives you a neutral space where you can really get to know someone. Even in the real world now if you're a gamer and you want to get to know other gamers, there really is nowhere left to go."

"If you're a gamer, unless there happens to be an event in your town there is no place to meet like-minded people. Home is that place," Buser declared, probably whilst grinning ear to ear. "It really leapfrogs the offerings on other game consoles."

Home hasn't had the most trouble free of gestations, of course, but Buser was confident the service would launch this year as planned. "It's imminent. We haven't announced a specific date but we will make a public announcement."

Window shopping in a mall with no merchandise is like playing a video game with a dead controller. Thankfully, TedTheDog has confirmed on the Official European Forums that Home will be receiving some much needed maintenance tomorrow around 7 AM GMT. Included with this maintenance is the addition of purchasable items within Home's shopping center. Gone are the days where staring into an empty window is a past time, now gamers can get their hands on some new duds.

TedTheDog's official statement is below.

"Home will be offline from 7am UK tomorrow for a few hours whilst some further changes are made to the server side. Once it comes back up we will also be putting some items into the Shopping Centre to help test the mechanics there. Again, our long term beta volunteers will be reporting and logging any problems and we will be publishing a list of all known issues shortly."

The Lemming effect in Home seems to slowly becoming to an end as individuals can soon branch out and have a sense of uniqueness to them. Mark, they haven't said anything about how it would work, but you can guess it'll probably resemble one of these :

- Each trophy type counts as a different number of points. let's say bronze is 1, silver is 3, gold is 6 and platinum is 10. They might have the price of items in the shop and underneath it could be the amount of points it costs. You then add the item to your basket, and you could choose to pay with points, or cash. You might even have a virtual wallet for your points.
- It might be a load of unlocks once you reach a certain level, or have a certain number of trophies. Maybe certain items would require 30 bronze trophies to unlock them, or special ones 2 platinums or whatever.

I don't think you'd lose the trophies, but you'd lose the points you gained with them.		2008-12-05 09:38:00

That something being a firm release window for the game. Which, if The Times aren't pulling things out of their collective arses, is sometime before December 17.

See for yourself. The article - published on December 7 - says:

To try Home, which is slated for release in the next 10 days, players must download a piece of free software from Sony?s PlayStation store onto their own PS3.

Plenty of scope there for The Times to be misinformed, jumping to conclusions or, as stated, be pulling things out of their arses.

Did you hear? The Home open beta starts today. The client has been patched up to version 1.03 and the servers are down while Sony does various jiggerypokery behind the scenes. TedTheDog states that the service should be back up, along with the launch of open beta, "early PM UK time," though he adds that he can't be more specific than that, thanks to the nature of the global updates.

Ted also confirms that the Home icon will appear on the XMB as soon as the final switch is pulled, though people who are using their PS3s at the time will need to restart. In case you're wondering, it's already past Midday in the UK, so it could go live at any minute. We'll update this post as soon as that happens.		2008-12-11 12:58:00

At least the Uncharted place has that arcade game... that I didn't get to play because it was being used.

And the doors, which evidentally the key codes to which will be passed out on the 14th or so (I think I read sometime around this time, and the 14th makes sense because that's the new Uncharted sequel trailer date).

I haven't had it at all yet and I have just gone on my PS3 to check and it is there now and ready to download
It's in the section of the XMB where the store is.
I'm downloading it now and it says the FILE SIZE is 77 MB

If you're not one of our many readers who've been continuously pressing F5 for the last nine hours or so, you might be unaware that the Home open beta is now live for all regions.

Don't look at us like that, of course we're not lying. Home has actually launched. Once you've picked your jaw up from the floor, simply restart your PS3 and you'll find the icon under the PlayStation Network section of the XMB. Then you have to read and except the user agreement
I then tried to log in to HOME and got the ERROR C-991 lost connection to the server.
But on the 3rd try I'm in.
It starts with the tutorial, what I'm off to start now and then mess about with it for a bit
Hope you guys (and me still) have some luck on getting in and STAYING in

It looks like Home has gone open Beta. I saw a thing about it my console control bar. It said it was an open beta. It looked like it was for Europeans though. Because Australians use PAL as opposed to NTSC like the US and Japan, I guess we get in on the European servers.

Things that I have done so far in Home:

- I have danced in a "The Running Man" line.
- I have acted like a total degenerate, and started dancing by myself, until people started to join in. I called it "The Revolution".
- I have successfully attracted some idiot who wanted to "start a fight".
- I have had a forum sausage fest...It was wrong xD
- I have sat quietly next to some guy who was looking at the view of the pond, it was rather relaxing.
- I have started the second "REVOLUTION". It was more successful than the last.
- I re-initialized the "The Running Man" line.
- I met up with forumers and accepted their friend requests.
- I have talked to a few new people.
- I played half a game of chess. I got PWNAGED.
- I did things with others that are too wrong to post on here, winkwink Creative, Maltay, Teh_Bucko xD
- I have changed appearance. I look almost exactly like myself.
- Many other things which I have forgot.
- And finally, I got disconnected.

i was on it last night for about a hour before i had to go to bed.
And i was giggling like a little girl with the missus. I couldn't help but just go around and randomly do the running man in between 2 strangers while they were trying to talk or constantly circling them. I was acting like a right idiot and just sitting down in stupid places. I also thought it would be fun to stalk some random person and followed them for quite a while, even when they repeatedly tried to run away from me.
So yeah if you ain't tried it yet it is lots of silly fun. And me and the missus couldn't stop laughing.

I decided to bite and try it out, even though I had no idea what it really was.

The character/avatar creation was a lot like Sims 2's Create-a-Sim on steroids, it was pretty impressive. The tutorial was bossy and short, and the view from the balcony was not as impressive as I was led to believe.

Once I hit the central square though, things started to pick up.

Things I did :
-Walking around randomly and enjoying the view
-Dancing repeatedly near the music booth
-Setting the stupid bubble machine at random places, and then using the thumbs down emote (is this thing really supposed to be fun or something?)
-Randomly using the guns and point emotes at people
-Completely pwning random strangers at bowling... twice
-Walking into the theater and having my PS3 freeze
-Eavesdropping on a conversation in German
-Eavesdropping on a conversation in Spanish
-Laughing at the thought of the stores charging *real* money for virtual furniture and clothes, then realizing Sony will probably make a lot of money out of it
-Trying to get to the arcade machines which are always occupied
-Stalking some random stranger with the same face as mine for a couple of minutes
-Thinking it sad that whenever there was a female character/avatar around, there was always a group of men there too
-Hearing a guy asking on his mic whether someone was really a girl or a guy
-Receiving random friend requests from strangers

All-in-all, should be a good way to pass the time when I don't feel like playing any game and there's nothing on TV. Think my favorite thing to do will be bowling and dancing at the music booth.		2008-12-12 14:11:00

US has a decent Plaza
US has a new jukebox with decent music
US has a brand new game

Solution if you're not getting the Icon Appear :

GO on the PSStore
Download something small (Maybe about 20 mb?)
Exit the store and turn off PS3
Turn on and wait for download to finish
Icon Appears

Well, I've tried home a bit. It seems... well... slow when you are by yourself though. Everything takes a while to download.

I think most people are using the ps3 keypad input system using the sixaxis... I use a USB keyboard to communicate. The difference in speed is remarkable and I am sure it's frustrating for those using the default system. 		2008-12-12 16:21:00

I had a lot of problems signing in. It just worked for me now.

I messed about in HOME again last night and it still is as funny as ever (don't know how long this messing about will stay fun though)
Hung out with with my mates bro for a bit and then Miffy turned up and we started off a mass rave lol
Then Miffy took me to his house and showed off his BROKEN arcade machine lol
We should organise a LBPC meet up over Christmas when this is a lot more stable (well hopefully) and we all have free time
But don't know how we could do this as it's region specific
