Mirror Reflect

Archive: 2 posts

The Problem:

Today i had an idea to make a puzzle where you control the angles of various mirrors in order to reflect beams of light in certain ways. So far I used a very messy system of gyroscopes to rotate the mirrors 45 degrees, and a selector. Impact sensors and holograms were used as well, of course. I glued beams of hologram to the mirrors, and attached sequencers. Blue labeled tags at the end of each light beam detect if the next light beams should be activated. Unfortunately, it has some aesthetic problems, with the hologram overlapping at certain angles. Even worse, when rotating the mirrors, the light beam randomly changes trajectory, obviously because the hologram is glued onto the mirrors.

Would anyone here be able to assist me in making the concept work? All I can think of is some sort of system of emitting holograms and wireless logic, but I'm not sure how to do it. Maybe there's a completely different way that I haven't found? Looking forward to responses.

I haven't tried this, but you could make up some sort of projectile with zero gravity, zero dampening, and some combination of a strong rocket rotator and a local space mover to keep pushing it? If so, just emit a steady stream of it from your source and I imagine the mirrors would bounce them around accordingly.2011-02-05 05:25:00
