Thumbs Down - Give an Explanation

Archive: 11 posts

Ok so we have thumbs up and down for the new rating system ... but just to round things off I reckon players who rate thumbs down must be automatically demanded to query why the level is thumbs down maybe even a tag system. For example to record there's a bug or something ... because otherwise it's probably haters doing their thing... :/2011-02-04 17:14:00

Thumbs down should lead the player straight to the comment section. It'll stop people frustratingly quiting the level because they can't do something, and rating it badly because of it. If they are forced towards another page, those who are rushing will instead leave the rating, rather than frowning it.2011-02-04 18:04:00

Ummm...no?!? Ever hear the expression, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink"? I can only imagine the inane comments this would engender. If the level is being rated down because it's broken I'm sure some nice person will go to the trouble to tell the author (I know I do)...you don't need to require everyone to do so. Also it's not the communities job to bug test your levels...do this before you publish them. As for the "haters" do you really think a forced comment would stop them?!?

LBP fun fact: 90% of creators think their levels are "above average".

Maybe they're right. 10% of levels are atrocious, bringing the average down.

Perhaps 10% is a bit optimistic though...

But what if the level really just sucks?
If you leave a comment saying every element is poor, it will just make things worse.
"If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all."

I'm all for bug reporting/critical comments, but fullofwin is right.
Creators should test out their own levels, not rely on the community to do it for them. That's just lazy.

Exactly, midnight. If someone gets a few bad ratings on their level, it will only make them feel worse to find the same amount of horrible comments.

Also, Mm removed the mandatory tag and rate system of LBP1, because people wanted to get on and play more levels, not spend forever going through menus and such.

Just as we are free to leave a nice review or just like a level because it is likeable, we should also be free to leave constructive criticism or just dislike a level because it is terrible. Leaving a review, good or bad, is meant to allow a player to praise or help out on certain aspects of a level, not to force a player to defend their frowny face. On a similar note leaving "good level" or "great stuff" as a review is just as productive as leaving "This level sucks" or "stupid" as a review.2011-02-04 19:28:00

As much as I dislike voice-less downraters, won't forcing them to leave comments just make them uprate everything? Or just skip rating.
"I could downrate this level cause I'm a butt. But then I'd have to type some stupid message. >:I"

TBH, I prefered the star system. There's more to an opinion than 'I liked this', 'I didn't like this' or 'I'm indifferent and won't vote'
I get that they use this system so that downraters may have less of an impact on the overall score, but I just think the drawback outweighs the reasoning for it.

Thumbs down means the level is crap I do not want to be forced to go into detail explaining what should be obvious.2011-02-04 19:39:00

Depends. If it's obviously bad, eg H4H, it's self explanatory, but when you try hard and get a bunch of sad faces, you'd like to know why. I'm up for the idea.2011-02-04 20:13:00

What if I just don't like the level and its just not my tase, why exactly should I be obliged to say why?
You're obviously not gonna please everyone, m8.

People can simply dislike because they do, that's the good thing about it.
Could be the most awesome beautiful level ever, but some people may still not like it, just because they don't.

If this were to happen, they'd have to implement the same for a "" meaning less people would bother to rate althogether.
That's the good thing of it atm, you can just rate it if you like it or dislike it, that's all the reason one needs, and if someone WANTS to discuss why, there's the review and comments section for that exact pourpose.

So no, I'm not with you in this one, m8, that would ruin and alter ratings a lot.
