Development team support.

Archive: 8 posts

More and more levels are now being created by "teams" or at least co-developed by two or more people.

Example:

LBP2 should add a place where you can create a "dev team", share a moon, manage members/titles/roles, publish AS A TEAM, and take credit (and earn trophies) for successful levels.

I agree, all the author's of a level should get credit. I'l like to see a system where a team build level can appear on more than one creator's moon, without actually having multiple copies of the same level. It could be like an alias on your computer. Say three people build a level, each publishes and alias of the level, so no matter which creator profile your looking at, you see the same number of plays, hearts, etc. on that level.
I hope that makes sense. I haven't slept much lately.

It would also have to force players to always use co-op when editing, so that people aren't overwriting each other. (there would be no solo option).2011-02-05 18:56:00

zeel: Yes, or at least require all the level's creators to approve changes before publishing, that way one person could do bug fixes and so forth. I would certainly be more inclined to build a co-op level if it were better supported.2011-02-05 20:36:00

I do enjoy the idea of that system, it sounds really good, but I imagine people simply putting another player's name under the author tag of a bomb survival in return that the player '<3s his lvls.'2011-02-05 21:28:00

Someone mentioned this a little bit at one point, but I can't find who or where, so I'm making my own thread, that's a little more detailed.

It seems a lot of LBP2 projects are becoming team projects, with multiple users working on the same level. Unfortunately, the level can only be published under one username, which will get all the plays and hearts, and only that user would get all the trophies. Now one solution would be to have each creator publish a copy of the level to their moon, but it won't guarantee the same number of plays or hearts.

What I suggest is the implementation of Creative Teams. These Teams would work like clans, with a user registering one with a name and a short (5-character) tag. This tag would be shown before a player's PSN (with a possible option to toggle this display on and off). Once created, other users could request to join the Team and the founder could decide wether or not to accept them.

This Team would have a collaborative Team Moon and Team Earth that they could all share online. The Moon would be different in that it displays who's currently creating in the level. If you're the Leader, you can decorate the Earth and Moon, edit the "Us" section (similar to the "Me" section for individual user's Earths), choose who in your clan can work on what levels, who can edit level information, who can publish the levels, etc. The Leader would be able to delegate these powers to different users so he or she doesn't have to be online at all times.

When published, a level created by a Creative Team would appear like any other level, except for a few obvious changes. First, there would be a new section in the level description with a list of all the users who helped create that level. Hearting (both the level and the Creator) or playing this level would count towards the Hearts of each individual user who created the level. The "Visit Earth" option would bring a player to the Team's Earth. The Profile on this Earth would bring up the Team's name and description, as well as a list of all the members on the team with links to that member's Earth.

There could also be pages in LBP.me for Creative Teams, listing the members and published levels.

I think this would be an excellent way to both promote collaborative creations and ensure that all creators involved in a level get the credit they deserve.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

If you're working as a team, over-writing wouldn't be an issue.

I think there should be a team moon.

The author would be the "team". If you go to the team's earth, thats where the members would be. You have to create a team, have people apply, and accept them. A person can be on no more than 1 team.
