Rockman World

Archive: 7 posts

I made a level in little big planet called -Rockman World- by GAMEBOYPOCKET (me), obviously it is based on a game of the same name.

The stages in Rockman games are a bit challenging and obviously it is deemed hard to the average player and since 90% of LBP players are 4 years old (including all my 4-7 years old cousins) I feel that I would never get a proper feedback even more than that finding a level in LBP over 3 million stage is nearly impossible even I, the creator, had trouble finding my own level.

Well anyway the level is in the difficulty and short side as it should since it is based on a Rockman game. I put lot of time and effort on creating it and I am positive that there is not a signal glitch in the level I replayed it so many times and fixed many things just to make sure.

I also made sure that all enemies move and function in a certain and obvious pattern and got their own weakness and easier ways to beat much like how they are in the main game only instead of using Rockaman abilities you?ll use sackboy?s. If you feel that the stage is too difficult to proceed then you probably underestimating sackboy's abilities. Sackboys can do many things that other hero don't, try to remember that when you play the level.

anyway I really hope everyone enjoys it. It is a short level true but I did put lot and lot of time and effort on making it so please be nice with the feedback. and please note that it is published in LBP 1 so that all my friends could try it so expect the limited but charming fun of the original create tools. Have fun.

EDIT:
NEW UPDATE!
-the whole level have been remolded to 8 bit style.
-Platforms are now bigger to avoid some dodgy physic problems
-No more instant death moments they either have been fixed or removed.

By the way the level is in black and white just like how it was on the gameboy.
and that pick was before the 8 bit makeover. enjoy

EDIT: I just made an EASY version. My comment on the difficulty still stand and I feel that by listening to the high demands and by making an easier version would help in getting better reaction and more recommendations so there. Enjoy

Playing this level right now as we speak... er, type... or would it be read? Anyway, when you said this level was hard, you weren't kidding. A second after I spawn, some spinning blade with a smiley face killed me. SACK YOU SMILING SAW-THINGY! After getting blasted to bits and chopped up about 10 more times, I finally got past the first encounter of turrets and made my way to some more guns and pitfalls. After dying another 15 times, I cleared that and the rotating circles with more smiling spinny things (their smiles mock me and haunt my dreams). Surprisingly, I only died 5 times at the part with small platforms to jump on and I made it to the first megaman=ish looking guy. An issue with him you'll want to address is that when he dies, the gas by him stays (furthest back layer sackboy can walk on. to remedy, just glue the gas to the megaman guy, NOT the floor/wall).

Made it to the next megaman after dying another 10 times by my arch-enemies hand. Ok, now I'm getting a little frustrated, so I'm cheating and shooting megaman from a safe spot. HA! Now there's a W on the wall. Could this be a boss fight?

Nope, it's the end. Awww.

Okay, here's what I thought. The level was hard, no, it was merciless. Ever step I took could (and did) lead to my numerous deaths. I wouldn't say that the level was unfair, but it certainly bordered between hard and frustrating. I liked the way you used those 8-bit boxes to make level scenery, but I wasn't too keen on some of the other choices (the grey cardboard looked alright, but with their being 8-bit boxes, more 8-bit stuff would've meshed well with it). One thing I was disappointed with was that there was no actual boss. That kinda bummed me out.

Overall, this is a very difficult level that will test your patience, but joining the elite few on the scoreboard may ease the pain. :star::star::star:

For F4F, could you check out The Dungeon? link in sig

ohh thanks.
I'll try to adjust the scenery part. The thing is I was trying to make it as true to the original. Lucky for me the 8 bit boxes actually did appear in the game but all the other design weren't. Either way I have got an idea to make some 8 bit stuff off my own I hope that works.

And thanks for the solution for the sniper joe enemy I had trouble with it and was thinking for a way to fix the gas problem.

While for the boss fight...well I really wanted to include one but that might higher the already difficulty level and I don't think cutman would work well in LBP 1. I tried but failed to make a decent fight. I can make a good fireman, iceman and even electman though. Again I'll try to think of something.

Thanks again for the feedback. I just quene your level. Dungeon sounds fun.

EDIT: I tried sticking the gas with the “megamanish” enemy but still he disappear but the gas stays. And yes I am sure that they are stuck together and not with the wall or floor but no luck. help would be appreciate it.

overall, its REALLY hard. but what it needs most is a sense of direction. most of the time i didn't what i should be doing or why. I think more checkpoints would make it a little less frustrating. i understand you want a challenging level, but you need an easy level first to bring in the plays for your challenging level. so, i would suggest making 2 versions or something.2011-02-06 17:27:00

I tried this level for myself, and I don't hold the wonderful and elite title of beating it. Or getting past the first part. D: I found it insanely difficult at the beginning, and I don't think those 4 year olds are thinking any different xD I don't wanna try to give a full review because, well.. I can't. I might try it again later, just to help. But judging by these last comments, the difficulty either needs a drop or a whole second version.2011-02-08 13:47:00

If you find the level to be too difficult then please read this comment before reaching any final judgment.

1. To be fair it is more tricky than difficult. That may not mean much sense I made the stage and know all the tricks in it. I had my little cousin who is quite young and not skilled at gaming at all to play it and she could manage to beat it and is up there with the elite. More than that she didn't even die much.

2. It is a fast pase action level much like how Rockman games are. Because it is straightforward and barging through the stage seems and is possible people often do that much like how they do it in Rockman games which is wrong and doesn't give the games much justice. You are supposed to expose enemy weakness and find ways to get through them untouched by thinking smart.

In Rockman games there is a life bar so people could do a risk or two but that it is not possible in LBP 1 so the whole barging thing wouldn't work as good. I tried to balance that by putting an endless life checkpoint for every 5-8 seconds walk and for every three to five obstacles. You techniquely just need to go through few obstacles without getting hit and putting in mind that some are your average pitfall and others are enemies which if you kill would not return as they do in the original game makes the whole journey much easier and shorter.

3. If you feel that’s too much too handle then you might want to remember how Rockman challenges are like. To beat a challenge in Rockman 9 or RM10 You need to beat the game without getting hit, that challenge is called Mr perfect. Imagine this, going through the 4 wily final stages + finale boss + all the eight Robot masters all in a ROW without getting a single damage. There are other challengs like beating the game without attacking (expect in boss fights) and an other to never miss an attack.

Here a video to show how the final levels are like in Rockman games.

Here is one of the responds.

“That Concrete Shot on the lava lasers blew my mind, I had no idea you could do that.”

Funny enough neither did I, I used to do it the obviouse and hard way by using concrete on every lave to make a way up which by the way is extremely EXTREMELY difficult, the lava kills you by one shot in case you are wondering so does the pitfalls and spikes much like how they are in my stage only difference I add many checkpoints and endless life.

This kind of thinking and multipath is what I am trying to achieve in my level and what I work and put additional care in making without it, it wouldn’t be a Rockman stage. It is also the part I like must in Rockman games.

4. The stage is made so that it can be played in several ways you can take the hard way by walking straight forward to danger and win, difficult but possible or you can think of an easier way out which there are many. As I mentioned in the level description sackboy got abilities of his own although not apparent but are there, use them to make the level much easier thinking of easier ways to beat them is part of the fun and one of the main points in the level. It is also one of the part I would like to hear recommendation and feedback about. There is no such a thing as a place where you cannot proceed however if you feel that certain parts are unbeatable just inform me and I may be able to help out and if you still find it to be difficult or unobvious method then by all means make a suggestion it would be much appreciate it. After all suggestion on making a level better is the whole point of the thread.

For an example check this pic

Two scroll bombers and a cutting wheel, the whole area sounds deadly at first glance but in reality it is one of the easiest parts out. Ironic enough 90% of the platforms there are safe spots so enemies may be there but they really cannot touch you, It doesn’t take much to figure that out either. By the time you reach there you already know that the cutting wheel cannot jump and get you while for the scroll bomber just look at the spot they shot you’ll notice that one is completely harmless you might even want to ignore it while the other would never touch any platform. Regardless if you ever died in that area then you must know that you have simply suicideed due to panic and hesitation.

Hope that clear things up. Thanks for reading this far.
