Syncing Music and Animation (Lights/Neon/Global Lighting)

Archive: 2 posts

Hi,

I am making a sort of homage to Stereo Mono to allow me to figure out controlling light in combination with sequenced music. The thing i really loved about that level (aside from its sheer beauty, well done Fyshokid) is the fact the illumination of objects, and the changing of the global lighting properties is in time with the music.

How do i do this? Is there an optimal method or is it just a case of calculating tempos (on the music sequencer) against the time per bar on the game sequencer.

I also have another - fairly simple question i hope - i've been playing with creating sequenced illumination of neon blocks using a game sequencer however i've only so far got the blocks to illuminate using batteries but what i really want is for the block to light instantly (as per battery) but instead of just turning off it dims to 0% illumination over a short period of time, so the light lingers slightly following each turn on.

Another thing i have noticed with using the music sequencer is that it seems to skip half the first bar when it is initiated, now my plan for the level is that as you move from section to section i want to introduce a new section to the music, essentially having a collection of music sequencers that only contain looping sections this way i can build up the track (and also break it down) as you progress through the level by moving from one music sequencer to another using player sensors - or other switches depending upon the situation/trigger requirement.

Thanks in advance for any help you happy gadders can provide.

You can place batteries and world tweakers on a music sequencer, so no need for a game sequencer. To get those lights to dim slowly, place a timer on the music sequencer and tweak it to Start Counting Downinput action.2011-02-04 12:40:00
