Random object movement
Archive: 5 posts
Hi y'all, Im new around here, and im in need of a little help. I have my level almost completed, its of the top down variety, however i need to add some pesky little enemy objects scattered here and there. I want these objects to move around the map randomly, What methods of achieving this would you guys recommend? Ive toyed around with the idea of pre-recording routes onto the sackbots, but... this isnt quite random enough for me! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. | 2011-02-03 10:30:00 Author: Unknown User |
if it's an object, not a sackbot put a microchip on it and put a randomizer and several movers. Wire each port of the randomiser to a mover and it should just wander round the map. Tweak it to get it right though (the randomiser). Oh yeah, with sackbots set them to patrol, it's not that random but they will wander about. | 2011-02-03 10:36:00 Author: Unknown User |
Good shout! would the patrol setting on a sackbot work, if the sackbot was controling a controlinator?! also Do you think that a randomiser attached to an advanced mover would reduce how "square" the objects movement would be? | 2011-02-03 10:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hi, I don't know if this would suit your map but you could you scatter a selection of labeled tags in different areas of you map and hook them all up to a randoziser, then place 'follower' movers on your enemy objects, so they move towards whichever tag is 'on' from wherever they are on the map..mmm? Actually ignore that and just have all the tags scattered about the place and either have them switchable or permanently on, then put a chip on each enemy with 1 randomizer to a selection of followers (1 for each tag on the map), therefor allowing each enemy to move independently. You could even mix it up further by randomizing which tags are activated as I suggested to start with. You can imagine that if both the followers and tags are randomized then an enemy may move for a few seconds then rest and then move of in another direction or change direction whilst still on the move?, hope this at least is another workable idea for you. Let us know how it's going! | 2011-02-03 12:05:00 Author: CloaknBlagger Posts: 78 |
Cheers again folks, Gona have a lot of work on my hands tonight trying these methods out... Liking all so far, but the tags idea seems to be the one which may work best, im familiar with this technique. I'll be sure to update once ive nailed it. Peace and respect! | 2011-02-03 12:36:00 Author: Unknown User |
