How do I make a non-linear game?

OK, I'm working on a game right now where there's a main hub, and four levels that you can tackle in any order you wish. I know how to do that, using level links. What I want to know is whether or not it is possible for the game to tell which levels you have completed, and then allow you to not select the level again? Or at least is there a way to make it so that the player has to defeat the first four levels before they can face the final boss? I'd like to keep the non-linearity, but if it isn't possible in this manner, then I suppose I'll just have to make it linear after all | 2011-02-02 21:40:00 Author: The Doctor Posts: 18 |
You could distribute points to the player after completing a level and require a certain amount to get into certain levels. With a little thinking, this might work. | 2011-02-02 22:43:00 Author: Unknown User |
That's a good idea. I had one of my own - What if I gave out prize stickers at the end of each section and required all four to be placed on sticker switches in order to access the final boss?
