D-Pad not working for Controlinator.

Archive: 10 posts

Tried direct link, toggle, and directional splitter...and none seem to do anything at all. I have already found out the hard way that Triangle does not work if there is ever a speech bubble, square works the pop-it and such, but D-pad does nothing at all. Anyone else have this issue? I made the mistake of designing several vehicles for the level assuming things worked straight forward to find each issue out one at a time...which is really lame in an over heated level where I have to turn off all the emitters by hand, fix each device, turn them back on, have to play test the entire level to see if they work to find out the next issue...so right now I have fixed everything I can, but I can't get the D-pad to work, and still wonder why they put in the square and such when you can't use them...then again square for exit may be an economical way to use it, because it still seems to input bu also pulls up the pop-it, but I am not sure.2011-02-02 19:26:00

conect 2 directional splitters to both the vertial and horisontal outputs of the d pad. the positive output for the splitter conected to the vertical output will be on when the up arrow is pressed negiteve when down is pressed. onthe other splitter the positive will be on when the right arrow is pressed and negitive when left arrow is pressed. also you can disable popit from the DCS settings.2011-02-02 19:32:00

I did try the direction splitter that way, but I think I must have done something wrong after-wards, I have a habit of grabbing the wire from the device only to disconnect it from the other device. I will check on that, I will also check the DCS because I was out of buttons excluding the tilt...2011-02-02 19:43:00

This is what direction combiners are for, not splitters! Wire each direction to its own input on a direction combiner. There, it now functions just like a control stick output! Wire the combiner to your object you want to move, and BAM! It works!2011-02-02 19:53:00

there is apsolutly no point in conecting both outputs to one dyrection combiner. you would get some whered idkwhat! the outputs when they are untoched act like direction combiners (the inputs being up and down, left and right) if you want the individual buttons you need to split them not combine them.2011-02-02 19:56:00

Your only problem is that you haven't disabled popit controls.2011-02-02 20:03:00

If you want the Directional pad to control left/right, you use a combiner. The D Pad doesn't work like a direction combiner by default, since it's 2 buttons. Wire one to the positive, one to the negative, then it treats one input as +100 and the other as -100, and both at 0 when neutral, resulting in your directional change.
I stand corrected, turns out that the D pad's left and right do function in unison.

A directional splitter is used if you're using direction-based controls for non-directional based inputs (like using a control stick to control 2 different emitters instead of moving something). If you're using the D Pad to control something, there's no reason it shouldn't work.

Also, you can use the square button if you tweak the controllinator to disable popit controls.

No, I mean inputs. Unless you're able to wire an output to another output, then by my guest

Lol, thanks for all the help, I will try it tonight. Wish I had noticed the disable pop-it. I rewired all five vehicles because of that twice.

Edit: Yep that was it, the dis-able poper thingy. Switched it and instantly everything worked. Thanks tons. And to make it clear, with the d-pad hooked up directly to a light or magic mouth it simply works as on/off toggle, click right once on, click right again off.
