Metroid: Training Ground Alpha

Archive: 16 posts

I've posted a level containing my progress on a Samus sackbot, complete with training exercises. She has the ability to wall jump, double jump, screw attack, and hyper run, as well as four functioning beams (power, ice, fire, plasma, and light [charge]), the Xray visor, a "new" grapple beam (kind of like a tractor beam. I might make it a completely new element along with the original grapple beam), missiles and bombs.
I'd like feedback on this,as I've worked very hard and need to know who all's looking forward to the full Metroid series of levels. Thanks

----Controls-
--Dpad-
-Up/Down: select equipment
-Left/Right/ select beam
--L1- use equipment
--L2- adjust grapple length
--R1- fire beam
--X- jump /double jump/(+left/right on left stick) screw attack
--O (While grounded and moving)- Hyperrun

I'll give it a go soon! You should really include a picture or two in the level showcase cos it can sell your level a lot more than words can

Could you F4F with mine too? http://lbp.me/v/xeqtb9 (I have some small steering issues to sort out but any feedback is welcome)

I couldn't get past the red-wall part!! how do I do it? It's after the part where it shows you how to double jump and the the screw attack!? Maybe the HUD could be a bit clearer (I dunno if it's like that in metroid or not) cos sometimes it disappears through a wall. You could keep it in the corner instead. I like the grapple hook and how it looks though and other than that it's coming along very well you just need a good level to put it in!! Love the screw attack too. I'll play again tomorrow probably and try and complete it2011-02-03 00:11:00

Yeah, I let someone else try that and they had difficulty too. I'll ease up on it. You have to get to the height of your jumps before mashing X. Maybe I'm just good at mashing... ._. But thanks, I'll work on this
PS: The HUD symbols and such are like those of Metroid games. It's a bit of a mix between old sidescroller and new FPS versions, but I'll see about the wall stuff. It's not supposed to, obviously. D: I'll get to your level today, more than likely. I passed out for an abnormal 10+ hours ._.

Hey man. I tried this out today. This was nice and I like where this is heading. I know that this is only the prototype so I will only leave suggestions.

Suggestions:
- make it so that you can turn the power hub on and off (for the real level at least)
- give the metroid a smaller health. Not to small, 3 hits lesser should do the job.

I'd like to see all of this to be put into a real level. See ya until then

Also, I updated that red wall area. It has a snazzy bulge now. And the two-player version actually requires two people. I'll eventually make it more co-op dependant, 'cause it gave me official-level-ideas.

edit:I had a part just ahead of that. I don't know where it went. D: If it ends up double posting somehow, sorry. But it was about whether the HUD visibility should be L3 (I might use that eventually) or on the option menu. I think I vote menu, but it's the community's call for now

I liked the idea and find it ambitious.

The slow beams really bothered me though, they ruined the fun and not what I expect from metriod. I think making it fast and allow the player to shot more than one shot would really enhance the level and give it a more metroid feel.

Can you please Feedback my level? would really appracite it. just click here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=47571-Rockman-World&p=760511#post760511)

I loved the concept. Playing as an almost fully functioning Samus is pretty elaborate although it could be refined a bit (see other replies).

My big issue with it was I couldn't read the small yellow text on my TV screen so I had no idea what to do at that long walkway part. If you were to either make the text bigger somehow or zoom the camera closer it would fix the issue.

O man, this sounds great. I always loved the old school Metroid, not the new 3d ones. Seeing as how this is little big planet, it's probably gonna be more like the old ones. I'm gonna try this next time I'm on LBP2!2011-02-03 23:32:00

Thanks guys I fixed the beams, they're now one shot per R1 push. They have limits, but the only one that really makes a difference is the fire beam. Due to its spread, it shoots two shots at a time. Let me know if I should bump it up (I think six shots at once in two presses is fine, but I'm community based on this )
As for the text, I'll work on that. I might try cameras or something. The "full game" is going to have all of that on a controls screen The HUD also toggles. It is now set for Triangle (I remembered L3 toggles head/hips and that bothered me a tad bit) Does anyone know how to hide timer/counter/etc visibility? I know a way around that, but I think a true toggle would be best.
@Super Sackboy Bros, I'll give it a look

Oh, should I do one layer or two for final gameplay? I might use the third, but for now it's doubtful. I think I need that for MorphBall stuff. Does anyone think they can help me there?

Anyone else need feedback? Haha
For anyone who wants to know, I'm still on the intro for the full thing. I need to update this level eventually as well.
Does anyone have a plan for the Morph Ball? It'd be much appreciated. If not, I'll figure it out somehow.

EDIT: I updated the level. The beams function a it different and a new one was introduced--the Light Beam. It's the charge beam, essentially. The level was also lengthened a bit for the Light Beam, Missiles, and Power Bombs
