Portal Gun

Archive: 11 posts

This is my Portal Gun. It spawns a sackbot that looks like Chell. It has a reticle. And it is controlled by a controlinator. L2 shoots orange portals and R2 shoots blue portals. "O" removes any open portals or flying projectiles.

r10 - Added momentum and removed all DLC by changing sound effect.

r7-9 - Added companion and storage cube. You can grab them with L1. Also made the energy ball emitter and capture thing from the real portal. The cubes teleport and so does the energy ball. The energy ball emitter and capture thing must be linked together once you spawn them. If you are going to have more than 1 set of energy ball things, YOU MUST SPAWN THEM ALL AT THE SAME TIME! Change the portal's look so its more appropriate for a side-scroller. Changed remove portals to L3. Added Zoom Out by pressing triangle (if there is a speech bubble open the press triangle while its open). And I made the projectile good enough to detect walls (even slanted ones) so portals will face the right direction (not facing you like before).

r6 - Thanks to LukeCF for the bug report that helped me figure out that... CREATE MODE IS DIFFERENT FROM PLAY MODE!!! For some reason, the gun I used in create mode was different in play mode. Well, I made a work-around. So Let me know if it fails again.

r5 - This is my 5th revision of my Portal Gun. This revision fixed the bug where portals would spawn in such a way that you could not teleport to them. This bug happened because in LBP2, I had on my projectile a material tweaker that made it sticky and 100% friction. I thought that when my projectile hit the wall, there would be NO WAY it would move or bounce or anything like that. But, while testing I noticed that my projectiles, when hitting the wall at the right angle, would roll in place. This rolling caused my portals to be spawned in the wrong direction; which, sometimes, made them end up inside the wall. I had a system set up in r4 that made it so when you jumped through a portal and the receiver was blocked, you would be thrown out of the controlinator for a second. Then you would be put back in and Chell would respawn. Unfortunately this happened a lot, so it became frustrating to the users and the comments showed that. So I got to work yesterday and I think I found a fix for it. I was looking at the logic for the projectile and found that I didn't even need a material tweaker. My projectile is set to disappear on any collision. So I got rid of that and started testing again. This time, when shooting I noticed it curved in mid air as I moved my reticle. This is because I have it set to follow the reticle and then stop following it when it touches it. This was to make the portal gun more accurate. I decided to scrap the following mechanism and just emit the projectile straight out at the same speed it used to follow me at. This, I am pretty sure, fixed the issue. Now when I fire a portal, there is no curving what so ever. I have tested this revision quite a few times, trying to shoot at the same angle I did before that made the projectile roll. I have yet to be forced out of the controlinator.

I would like to let everyone know now that my level itself is not very good. It is just a test level for the gun.

I need people to try and break the gun and to message me, post here, or leave a comment on the level what they did and what happened.

Also, I am looking for a REALLY good level designer to design a level for my gun. Or, if someone already has a cool level that I can put it in, that would be OK too. Just message me or post here.

Thanks!

I saw your published levels. You seem to be one of the music guys. You think you could make me the Portal song so I could stick that in my level?2011-02-02 15:43:00

Oh. Ok. So I need to fix it so you can't shoot the portals in the same place. I will try making the portal that is already there, disappear if it detects the other portal's projectile. That should work. I'll update it within the next couple of hours!2011-02-02 19:09:00

Okay so I'll explain with text what happened and if you need pictures I'll use some pictures.
So I made a infinite loop by placing a portal on the ceiling and one on the floor.
And proceeded to jump on down.
So I was falling in a infinite loop, and when I shot a portal against a wall a little ways away your system got confused. Both portals dissappeared, and my actual charater appeared briefly before another chell bot spawned and forced me in.

It is an invisible hologram that has a visible piece of hologram glued to the top. It follows the sackbot closely and is wirelessly controlled by you.2011-02-03 01:24:00

try my portals, mine are 2-way, carry both player and cube momentum through to the other portal and align perfectly to the walls

My person does but my cubes don't. I didn't bother with it because it was never used in the real game.2011-02-20 21:03:00
