The world's gone crazy....

Archive: 17 posts

Okay, random story;
The other day i was with my gf and her younger sister. We went to TESCO to buy champagne as it was their dads birthday. We also bought party stuff. I get to the checkout - and because i'm the only one with I.D. they can't sell me the alcohol, cause not everyone has I.D. who's with me. (my gf is 18 in a few weeks, and her sister is 16). That was really annoying, but understandable... so i got over it. Then, before he scanned through the plastic knives, he stopped and said 'i can't sell you these either sorry'. PLASTIC KNIVES!? But he sold us the forks.... the paper plates.... AND even a pin badge (omg liek wut if i went 2 pin sum1 :| ). Where the hell is logic in todays world!?
Yes, i understand why rules are in place... but we should have a system where logic is involved too. Otherwise stupidy like this happens. Health and Safety has gone too far really. Later, at that party, i told someone about what happened. And then they told me how their kids aren't even allowed to play TAG in primary school anymore. The whole world has gone crazy with rules.... argh!
What do you guys think? Anything similar happen to you? I'm guessing it's not so bad in US.

Not as bad in America? Sadly, incorrect. There are a number of stores where I live that have the same rules regarding the sale of alcohol. However - as I live in a college town - you wouldn't believe how much this helps curb the sales and distribution to minors. It's annoying, but I see it as a necessary evil as it could potentially keep drunk drivers off of the roads. I know that's a leap, but not everyone drinks responsibly.

Now, for the knives... I don't understand that at all. At what point could you buy the knives? Would everyone need to be 18 or what? I'm just curious what the logic is on that one.

While that is fairly bad, the world has already gone mad. It turned that way when I was chosen as the most socially engaged person on the forum. O_O2008-11-14 20:27:00

I thought it was rediculous from the beggining. I live in Canada and if somewent went to buy alcohol no one would care who's with them nevermind their age.2008-11-14 21:03:00

It's not as bad in US, I mean plastic knives? And they let you buy alcohol if your over 18 no matter who is with you. Like seriously, you should read the law, you could of got that guy so bad, because no where does it say you can't buy alcohol because a 16 year old is with you... That's just stupid, I don't know about where you live though.2008-11-14 23:07:00

It might not be in the law, but most places have a right to refuse the sale as they see fit. In other words, they can put policies into place as they see fit. It's not discrimination; it's the owner's right to turn away business.

Dude, it was just because you posted a lot. The bot cannot tell who is REALLY social, they go by numbers. So no worries, no one thinks you are socially engaged.

Yes, the owner's right, I don't think a cash checkee or whatever they're called owns the place. If he does then he does have that right but seeing a 16 year old with 2 18 year olds, shouldn't be the reason why he can't sell plastic knives.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think you read that right, I believe he was agreeing, because if he got the most socially w/e award then the world must be crazy. I believe that's what he meant.

Yes, I read that right. That is why I said 'no worries'.

It's just plain insanity that I can even remotely be considered "social".

And another thing, who ripped my heartd out and hoped to die? o_0

YouTube - Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave

Revolution in their minds - the children start to march
Against the world in which they have to live
And all the hate thats in their hearts
Theyre tired of being pushed around
And told just what to do
Theyll fight the world until theyve won
And love comes flowing through

Children of tomorrow live in the tears that fall today
Will the sun rise up tomorrow bringing peace in any way?
Must the world live in the shadow of atomic fear?
Can they win the fight for peace or will they disappear?

So you children of the world,
Listen to what I say
If you want a better place to live in
Spread the words today
Show the world that love is still alive
You must be brave
Or you children of today are
Children of the grave, yeah!

(I will not go into this, just know that the FBI would be knocking at my door if I were to speak out about this)
