For Vanished Heights

Archive: 35 posts

Hey LBPC... I got my first LBP2 level to present to you all...

Its another platformer... so if you've played my previous work then you most likely know what your getting yourself into. I've inlcuded some of the new LBP2 stuff....mostly just movers and bounce pads. I added sackbots for a bit but then decided that I still dislike them too much to use...

So anyway, hope you enjoy. Thanks in advance and I'd gladly do F4F for anyone who asks.

The screenshots on lbp.me look awesome. I hope the challenge is similar to Obsidian Depths more so than your other levels. I guess I'll just have to wait until the weekend to play it.2011-02-02 03:09:00

I will check this out and give you some feedback and I promise my word is good. F4F my level The Mysterious Mines of Misfortune 2. It is an lbp1 level and the only issues you will encounter playing it in lbp2 is that the lighting is a bit messed up in places (too bright/flashing) and I have not had the chance to fix it, but its not a game breaker.

Visuals were good as usual (inc NPC), and there was just enough gameplay to keep me interested.
I liked the bonus 1000 point bubbles that had a little challenge involved.
The scoreboard camera went a little buggy on the second playthrough.

4x diamond shaped score bubble groups seem to be the new "three"...
I expected more, but by the looks of the reviews, my expectations are too high.

Alright, that was, as always, awesome...there are so many names I'd like to call you, Lockstitch, for setting the platforming bar so high. What amazed me most about this level was the fact that I didn't notice the utter lack of any controlinators, bots, or creatinators while I was playing it. Just a very, very solid dose of oldschool Lockstitch platforming, which has never been anything to smirk at...the only thing left to say, I guess, is YOU GO BOY (or girl, you never know)!2011-02-02 04:47:00

Just played your level, and I was right to say that even though my expectations where extremely high thay were all well met, or I could say in style. This level included more of a story, which I'm not to bothered if a level has or hasn't got one but yours just added a little more to the level, the finishing piece of the puzzle. Though I was confused at the start, which I'm guessing was your idea it really felt like there was more I had to learn to understand the level, this could use a sequel but, using the same theme twice can be boring. And this level had a completely new theme to it. The level was more open and fresh. Most of youyr levels are either dark or in magical caves.

Platforming was great, you had some neat ideas that I've never seen before in LBP2 using the in and out movers to hold up the bridges was a great idea, the most orignal idea of the level (not saying that the rest wasn't, but not as much). What really made this level stand out from the your others, was not that it had tons of new neat cool tricks but that there was more of everything: Story, Platforming and well... Awesome. Your choice of materials was all so great, corner editing the bricks to get that effect was a really great idea, you made a meterial that everyone had seen in LBP new, stickers and decorations were also well placed. Your NPC was a nice touch to the level and the zooming on the character was also great, except for the last zoom, I think it got just a little to up close and personal. Though nothing to worry about. Finding the scoreboard was great, you always manage to find a new way to flick out those scoreboards at the end.

The level was truly and awesome experience, though I dont think it captures what you could do in LBP2 it comes close... very close. Great work, and I'm looking forward to see some more levels coming from you. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: and a big fat whopping <3.

Could you f4f Ruins of Albion (which can be found in my signature), though its a LBP level I'm still trying to get a few more comments.

I think this will be in the first LBP2 spotlight so could luck

Great level as usual. Smooth and fun gameplay, very good placement of bubbles, with the 1000 bubbles adding some more challenge to this not too hard level.
I really liked the look, the crumbling structure with a lot of opportunity to see the background. Nice combination of materials and some subtle use of stickering. Liked the drawn schematics on the walls. Well designed valkyrie. Nice little story.
Great job. Up & hearted.

If you're up for F4F please try one of my Deliver me from Eve levels (although they do include sackbots...)

Great level. Luvvly combination of materials, and fantastic stickering on your gal, one of the nicest designed characters I've seen. Movers are the perfect toy for your style of platforming!2011-02-02 17:32:00

Dude, played and loved it.

This is a real platforming gem. It's around the normal level length but it's enough for every jumping lover

Well the only suggestion I could give is...
Suggestions:
- make the Valkyrie a bit smaller and make her move a bit more. It just felt (from me at least) awkward seeing her big and almost not-moving near sackboy

It is a nit-pick suggestion but it's just something that would make the level a bit better. Can't wait to see what you make next.
Lots of love, blizzard! <3

Superb level! Good design and nice style! Loved the whole valkyrie, northern mythology thing, you had going on. Most of the set pieces and contraptions were original ideas which only made it even better. I can't wait to see your next grand scheme! 2011-02-03 14:41:00

This level allows me to say, with confidence, that you are my favorite creator of all-time. The platforming was great as usual, I love your use of movers, and the detail was great. I have no negatives at all. "Yay-ed" + Hearted. Great job! Can't wait to see what you make next!

If you ever have time, I would love to know what you think about my newest level (in my sig, A Helping Hand...err...Cursor!).

Must say-- as I did on your level comments... this is the best character you've done to date... loved the stickering! Material choices worked so very well together and of course those movers are just perfect for you. Congrats on a flawless stride over to the 'TWO-SIDE' of LBP!2011-02-03 19:45:00

You have made yet another masterpiece, Lockstitch.

VISUALS:
The materials are neatly polished, and the level has great usage of stickers and decorations. The angel characters looks really cool and brilliantly made.

SOUND:
Excellent use of "Victoria's Lab IntMusic" Interactive music. The sound effects are great too.

GAMEPLAY:
Your style of platforming gameplay is still incredibly inventive, and this time it's your first one in LBP2. You always amaze me and others with those outstanding obstacles.

OVERALL:
One of your best levels yet. Your style is still going strong. A yeah vote, a heart, and a positive review.

As promised, my f4f, and thanks for taking the time to play my level and post feedback.

Honestly this was a great level and it was good to see that you did use some of the new tech and gameplay elements suitable to lbp2. The visuals were great as well as the character design. The platforming was also enjoyable and never was frustrating at all. There was one part where there was a two way switch to pull but it was hard to see, enough so that I bumbed it before I even knew it was there.

I was really surprised to see you use the bounce pads. In all your other levels your bouncing mechanics were really cool and original and I was surprised that you did not make your own. Also, having played all your levels I would have to say that, while this was a great level, it is not my favorite one that you have made. Also, I would like to add that I feel as though all your levels follow a very predictable format (which is not a bad thing btw because you have developed your own style), but...I would love to see you make a level that is out of that comfort zone you are in. Please do not take these as negative things at all. You are a great creator without a doubt and you never disappoint. Keep up the great work.

Hmmm. Yeah.. I most definitely see your point about my similarities. I suppose I keep making these platformers bc those are the kind of levels that I really like to play. But yeah now that you mention it... I'll try to do at least something out of ordinary in the next level perhaps. And I used the bouncepads for two reasons. One their predictability and that they can be easily attched to other mechanics. But trust me I didn't like them at first.... Like most lbp2 stuff...2011-02-05 05:00:00

I played this level yesterday and I enjoyed it very much. Similar to your other works with a few LBP2 mechanics worked in. As Shookie said, your levels may be predictable, but it's the levels I like to play...platforming. Visuals were great. Gameplay was fun and enjoyable. Music fit the theme of your level well. Very original concept and ideas. Character design was unique and different. Nice job.

If you would like to do F4F, you can do any in my signature. There are all from LBP1, so some things may not look right in LBP2 because they were not converted over.

I think you did, once again, an outstanding job with this. Like you, I mostly only create platformers, except I fail to put a good story in them. In fact, I don't even have a story at all, it's just platforming through the whole thing. I actually went back and forth playing VelcroJonze's levels on the PSP and your levels on the PS3. You two in my mind, are the greatest at creating platforming masterpieces, and I admire that. Yes, as it has been said above, you're style is very predictable in the fact that there will always be some outstanding new mechanic in there. I always look forward to something new and exciting every time I jump into a LockStitch level.

Anyway, everything in the level was great! Somehow it reminded me of Davinci's levels but I don't have a problem with that. It blew all those levels away. Of course.

Great job! I look forward to your next masterpiece! Five stars and a heart!

Clarification: I totally agree about making platformers because I pretty much stick with that genre too. I did not mean you should switch to a different genre. What I was referring too was that all your levels have an obscure character, some type of task to find your way too, some way to reveal the scoreboard, and the feeling that there will be some type of confrontation with said character but not. These are not bad things at all. All that I mentioned are great things to have in a level, but my point was that it makes for a bit of a predictable level. Before I played For Vanished Heights I already knew that those things would probably be in there. I hope this helps. Keep up the good work dude. Are you a teacher?? I am a 6th grade math teacher. Seems I had read somewhere about you having summers off or something like that.

I tried the level in my cousin's PS3, and all I can say is this:

A pretty well-done level, and it pretty much is tempting me to get the game sooner than next January. Details that I could gloss over, if I could, are the secret bubbles worth 1,000 points when you touch them, the structure of the level itself, and the details that made it look like a convincing tower worth scaling over for one compass. And with all the new tools at your disposal, you chose to be minimal with them, which is another excellent decision. The design of the character wasn't too bad either, along with the cinematic camera angles you used when presenting her.

A bit more challenging than your Vile Anchorage, though. Congrats Lock!

Somehow I haven't played this level up until today. Great level. The environments are gorgeous and the platforming is perfect. The angel character looked great I'm glad you didn't just use a sackbot. Loved the moving parts and how the scoreboard was revealed. Great work on a wonderfully polished level.

If you could play my new level Emeria (thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=56855-Emeria&p=853199) / lbp.me (http://lbp.me/v/yzfc42)) and leave some feedback in my thread that would be great. Thanks for your level!

An awesome level as I've begun to expect from you but really I feel you can skip the "story" of your levels and as I'm pretty sure you realize theres a lack of one often I find a level is better with or without a story and I feel your "stories" just draw away from the awesomness of the pure platforming. Still even with that whining and awesome level as always.2011-05-26 00:37:00

The Good:
-Complex platforming featuring LBP2 obstacles
-Beautiful design
-Great attention to detail
-Stays true to the classic Lockstitch level we all look forward to

The Bad:
-That it had to end

F4F please. New level's called "Bubble Bridge"
