Button Mashing Counter Help

Archive: 4 posts

I published a button mashing level about a week ago. It is sort of like Tap X from the BETA, but you can use R1, R2, L1, L2, Triangle, X, Circle, and Square.

I like it a lot, but I just thought of something that would make it even better:
I would like to add a counter at the end that counted up everybody's button pushes that round. The only problem is that I cannot seem to get the counter to add properly. I am trying to wire it up like my other counters (explained below), but instead of having pulsers connected to the individual buttons connected to a massive OR gate on the total counter, I thought I might be able to wire the signals from the big OR gates on the individual counters to four pulsers that go to an OR gate on the big counter, but I think that it may be too many inputs on the OR gate because it is never accurate.

For the regular counters I connected the outputs of the buttons to pulsers (counters set to 1 that reset themselves) and then I connected those to an OR gate. The OR gate toggles a selector with 10 outputs that connect to various OR Gates controlling the holograms for the different numbers 0-9. The OR gate also goes to a counter that takes 10 inputs. When this counter fills up it toggles the selector for the numbers in the tens place and it adds to the another counter that also takes 10 inputs (when this one fills up the selector for the hundreds place toggles to the next selection). This pattern continues as there are 5 digit spaces.

Can anyone think of a way that I could make the total counter work? I could make it count by 5's or 10's instead, but I really would like it to go by 1s.

Sorry if it is confusing. If need be I am willing to explain in greater detail.

After asking for help on multiple other internet video game forums (ign, gamefaqs, etc.) I figured I would sign up here. I've read multiple threads of various natures relating to the first game and the second game, I've just never needed to post. I've garnered quite a few ideas (never get a chance to make them because of my hectic work schedule, as I am a part time writer on top of being a part time cryptanalyst) just by reading someones thoughts or how to make something work. I hope to have more free time this year (I think I may slow off the writing for a little), and I am proud to now be a member of the community. I think LBPC is epic and I would like to congratulate everyone who is a part of it!

Enough introductions... do you think you could help me?

I got the total counter to work by making it count by 5's but does anyone have any ideas on how to make it count by 1s without overlapping inputs?2011-02-02 19:21:00

Okay, thanks! I'll play around with it tonight. I had a moment of brilliance at lunch and I wrote down a sketch of the logic chip modifications on a napkin. If my new idea doesn't work I'll let you know.2011-02-03 01:39:00
