How to get recognized?

Archive: 41 posts

Guys, I was just wondering how is it possible to get recogniztion in LBP2?
It seems that the game is dominated by the same levels and it is impossible to get on cool levels, and to make matters worse MM have practically hidden the "Newest levels" section so.. How do you get plays? Without advertising too much.

Because I made a movie, it took me a long time and I struggle to get over 100 plays.. I have a thread in the F4F , I re-publish regularly *Not sure if it does anything in LBP2 though* but the point is I think it is alot better than most of the movies in cool levels How did they get in cool levels?

Well, you're already in F4F, so try contacting @mediamolecule or @littlebigplanet on twitter with your level's lbp.me URL.

Supposedly they said to do this if you want to be seen. Worth a shot.

Iv made a level called "Sack Settlement" and it is a level where people make a objects which is their house and then they can put a level link to a leve of theirs which is the inside of their house and inside they put Level links to their levels so when people come and visit Sack Settlement they can vistit your house and view your levels. Now since your level is a movie you could open up a cinema.2011-02-01 23:59:00

But does it have many plays?

Hmmm so if you contact MM you will get your level noticed and on the cool pages? I dont see how that would work lol

When you first publish a level, send a message to everyone on your psn friends list asking them to check it out. This will give your level a kick start in getting to the cool pages. It works for me

Reagrding the F4F thread, try playing other F4F levels and getting back to them with feedback. Then your more likely to get more people playing yours.

Goodluck!

What you're doing right now is a pretty good start to getting your levels recognized.

Thanks, unfortunetly not many of my friends have LBP2 ...
BTW does anyone know how the cool pages work in this game? Is it still to do with traffic?
Hopefully I can still get on to cool levels considering this level has been published for 3 days now :/

Im not sure how it works to be honest but i would like to know as well. I think its to do with the more plays and good ratings your level starts off with but thats just a guess 2011-02-03 17:22:00

It seemed easier to get plays and hearts in the first game than this one. Having the levels filter include LBP1 levels by default doesn't help matters either.2011-02-03 19:49:00

it just seems that only the older (lbp2) levels are on the cool pages.
whoever was the first to publish got all the hearts.

Right, but this is to be expected. It's so early right now with the game that there are honestly very few quality levels. As great and highly-hearted level-makers complete their levels over the next month or so with their non-rush job levels, Cool Pages will start getting even better content on them and MM Picks will be updated as well.

One of the only resons that the well known creaters are well known. It is just because they put out high quility Just do your best at one level, and play other levels for ideas and insperation. If you make a good level, and your not ashamed of it, make a F4F thread in the level showcase.
Rember: for EVERYTHING, hard work is rewarding.
and also, the MM picks is always updated, there are lots of high quility levels.

Posting a good review on someones level never hurt anyone, did it? IF you pointed out a few things they could fix, politely, Im sure theyll give your level a play in return.2011-02-04 01:58:00

I actually published a level that only took up 2 thermo bars the day after LBP2 came out and it got played like crazy, it was kind of comical to me that so many people loved it, when it only took me like an hour and a half. I guess timing can a have a part in when a level gets noticed, because there weren't many other levels, people played mine, even though it was really pathetic.

Now that I think about it, levels like mine are what make the cool levels page suck for other creators... hmmmm.... sorry everyone! haha

I think bikerider12 said it best. Dont expect your first or second level to get a great amount of attention straight off. For example, I've queued your level now, if its good, I'll tell my friends to play it but that might be a week or two down the line. But then if you publish another level and get people to play it then the people who enjoyed your first level will play your second one and then a few new people might try the second one out. As you improve with each level you produce, the more likely you are to get your levels out there to a wider audience. I found playing other peoples levels and giving constructive critisism helps a lot as most people will repay the favour and you learn a lot quicker how to improve your levels.2011-02-04 02:25:00

I completely agree, but there is something to be said about creating levels to please yourself and not worry about what other people think. If you create something that you think is great and you can be proud of it, then what else matters? If people like it, then that's a bonus. Most of the fun I find in LBP is in creating stuff that I like. So yes, when it comes to improving your skills, F4F is the best way I know how. But again, what's your motivation for creating? Are you doing it for yourself, or are you trying to please everyone else? I can tell you that it's much easier and more satisfying to please yourself than other people

Yeah but you have to admit that it stinks to put 20-30 hours into a level and get 15 plays. Happened to me.

I disagree.... I believe in an equilibrium of pride and self satisfaction. (There's a difference) The best of both worlds. You take pride in what you do, and you are happy to see your hard work being put to use.

I recently was looking on one of my LBP.me lvls and noticed that someone took a picture in the lvl. They looked like they were having fun, or making fun :C, but I am happy with the lvl, and am happy that I brought joy to someone. As corny as that sounded, I enjoy it when others are happy.

Well getting plays is noce, not getting frownfaced or one starred is nice, seeing others take pics in your level is really nice, seeing something you made being used as someone else's icon or such is awsome... not much more to say, never had luck on getting much plays with tons of work, heck for that matter never had much leck with F4F here, nothing more annoying than trying to beat a person's level, find everything you can for them, and they just give you a two line back, or a I really don't like your genre level type so I just played a few seconds...but half the time you are lucky just to get that...so with that in mind it is hard to expect people not doing F4F to even play a level. I still love the game.2011-02-04 06:54:00

Great advice , but for "Comedy" Films . I don't think it is possible to learn from other people... Comedy is completely personal you either like it or you don't and I can't make a movie that makes everyone laugh, so the only thing you can do is make different types of movies. And vary the comedy ..
As for making more levels... I don't know if i should yet. Like what is the point of making a sequel when I only have a few plays...

Btw does anyone know why my movie ends when it starts for some people? They keep booing the level because it ends for them... and it is quite annoying all my 8 boos have been from that

Network.

Make friends with people that have friends that are known creators. It helps more than you can imagine.

The thing is...you dont call that a person a "Friend" a friend is a buddy, a person you have fun and hang out with, someone you trust. When it comes to LBP and LBP2 "Friends" are better known as "Tools" the definition for Friends in LBP is "A person you use to make you famous" lol its as simple as that...

I hate it really, its still the same bull---- from lbp1, nothing has changed but like most people say id rather my friends like my levels and be honest that they like it than well any other crap. Trust me I know how you feel, its all about luck, its not about having friends, or having skill its just luck... 70% Luck..., 20% Skill and 10% well...."Tools" lol

Cause these days no one knows anything about friendship, its all just competition, envy, jealousy, greed etc etc etc
Id rather be known by my "True" friends and "Good People" rather than be known by a load of Mean, Cold, Selfish nutjobs lol.

It's the same with almost anything remotely competitive you do in life; Who you know, not what you know.

Though that said, the people you need to know won't give you the time of day if you aren't actually trying and working hard.

So true. I think all of my levels have over 100 plays, but most of those are because they have been on the server for so long. I'm hoping to get 1000 plays someday with a level I made over a year ago. The only reason I want 1000 plays is so I can get that pin

To be honest, I totally understand the frustration of putting 20 or 30 hours into a level to only have it played a couple times a week if I'm lucky. That said, I've put so many hours in the last few levels that I made in LBP1 that I stopped counting hours. The last one took me almost 5 months to complete, and the two before that took a couple months a piece. So 20 or 30 hours to build an entire level doesn't sound bad at all to me.

Again, it just comes down to building what you like. That's what keeps the game fun. If you focus too much on the people who aren't playing your level, or the people who are but rate it low, then what fun can be had in that? I'd rather have 15 people enjoy my level than 5000 people dislike it. hah, I guess technically I could have 15 people enjoy it and 5000 people dislike it, but you know what I mean
