The Little Big Taxi Company

EDIT:: Thanks for all the feedback and I just finished updating it there. The driving is a lot better now (more like sackro machines), there's a main menu with instructions and you can change the camera angle to a top down view if you like that better. Its a bit faster too. I took out the +10 seconds for each passenger as it made the game a bit too easy so its a 90 second overall dash now! I think it makes it more fun and here's some pics: The new extra camera angle:: http://ib.lbp.me/img/ft/0dbed628929b3e835f3fd2c7b45341a417848050.jpg http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/633b7f06077283de207384972b6b0220d02d4c4d.jpg http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/394612b3dadbd01109b84f42de627c1d446d4d17.jpg http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/a81c5b96ea27bee3ef9fbac194ade7c9eb5a55da.jpg http://lbp.me/v/xeqtb9 | 2011-02-01 19:15:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |
Queued! Sounds fun. | 2011-02-01 19:20:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Great concept, the steering felt pretty weird at times though. Other than that it was pretty sweet. | 2011-02-01 20:24:00 Author: Dietomaha Posts: 156 |
Only 1 review? This level is brilliant. It's obvious you've spent a lot of time on making this level. The interfaces are excellent, i like the way the time appears, the circles around the passengers so they are clearly visible and the green circle to indicate where your meant to drop them off. As soon as i started playin this i remembered the times i used to play GTA and steal a taxi and do the taxi jobs. Its a fun little thing to do. But yes, this level is excellent, the only problem, as mentioned before, is the steering. It lacked greatly and would sometimes steer off in directions i wasn't telling it, or the car would pivot on the spot, unlike physics of real top-down driving games. I'm no expert in making vehicles in LBP but i think you should put a lot more effort in improving the vehicle. If you do that and its nice to drive and feels good then, in my opinion this would be by far one of the best levels EVER. Without a doubt an Mm pick. Or so thats what i think. It's not just the level that is good but the concept. If you perfect the car you could make so many different games using the game engine you'd created. You could make a proper Little Big theft auto. Here's my review: I really like the idea and I think it's really fun to play. The city looks great and it works all fine. I didn't like that you get thrown in and the first thing you see is your car, a timer and I was like: "How do I drive, what do I have to do?!" After finding out how to drive I stopped next to a passenger. "... huh? Oooooh, I have to drive over them!" Well, I had to replay because the time was running out. "Yay, now I can kick some a s s... or transport them to random places!" I thought it was funny, but the controls annoyed me. Sometimes when I pressed left, the car drove a bit to the right for about half a second and then he drove left. Over all the car felt like it was controlling and not I. I don't know if you wanted it to be realistic, but I didn't like it. It ruined the level for me though! Also the camera was really annoying. You had a great view up. But when you drive down, you'll crash in every second house, cause you don't see anything. My suggestion: adding the option to change the camera to a "local space" camera, or changing the existing camera that you can see more when you drive down! All in all I still think it's a great level, so I gave it a "Yay"! | 2011-02-02 15:11:00 Author: RedShadow_88 Posts: 100 |
Hey, fun level! Looks great and the HUD is cool. Nice touch with the timer! As mentioned befor, the steering is problematic; going left when I'm pushing right. Can be a little frustrating, but you get an A for effort! Hope to see this improved and I think you've got a real gem in the works! | 2011-02-02 15:51:00 Author: Aselrahc Posts: 185 |
Thanks for the feedback and I'm definitely gonna do a bit of an overhaul on the steering mechanics! I honestly don't know why or how it pulls to the side. I actually did put a lot of effort into the vehicle and the way it skids and stuff and when you let go of the accelerator the car steers better just like any racing game. It does pivot on the spot when you are holding down both accelerate and reverse at the same time but not when the car is idle. I guess I'm so used to it from playing around when I was making it that I stopped noticing. I updated it a few minutes ago with a temporary solution but it will be re-done properly tonight!! To the camera problem I changed it slightly so you have more of a view below you but the 'local space' is very flawed at the moment. Using a normal camera with local space the camera moves in the opposite direction to where you steer (its a glitch apparently that hasn't been fixed yet) and with movie cameras they don't change angle so have to be completely top-down. They also track the player 100% so it seems very fixed and rigid and makes me dizzy when i turn too fast... I'll do my best to make a better camera angle and I may put an option to change camera to a local space one too | 2011-02-02 18:48:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |
I feel the same as everyone before, really. The driving was honestly game ending. If that were fixed, this would be brilliant. Er, it is already, but...brillianter? Haha And as sManic said, that fix could definitely open up possibilities. You get an A, but this one's not for effort. It's for Avalon. ..Nah, it's for effort. | 2011-02-03 16:17:00 Author: Narwhal Posts: 111 |
Ok this is GREAT. I love the design of the level. It seems quite complicated to make for some reason... Reminds me of Crazy Taxi for the ps2 . I think you should add some sort of custom taxi system or powerups, that would make it EPIC. Overall the level was very well made and I had a blast playing it, you should also make a versus version I would appreciate it if you gave me some feedback on my movie, its in my sig "When movies go wrong" | 2011-02-03 17:02:00 Author: onaga666 Posts: 293 |
Thank's for playing my level Doodle Jump! Here's y feedback on your's Good + Driving was OK. +Large area to explore. +Arrow was good +You can change the music Improvments -Driving turned really bad after you picked up someone -I picked up two people and they wanted to go to the same place. Why? | 2011-02-03 19:59:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Thanks for the feedback and as you can see I've edited the original post and made some serious changes to the level. Hope ye all like it better now!! @ onaga666 I've added your level to my queue and I may put some power-ups into the level if they feel balanced enough. @kirbyman Thanks for the feedback too and the location is just random each time so theres a 1 in 6 chance of each location coming up when you pick up a passenger so it must have just landed at this location twice | 2011-02-10 18:25:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |
Ooo, this looks really good! I've queued it up, probably won't play until tomorrow, though. I'll let you know my thoughts, either here or on the level itself. If you could play my level, Director's Cut (in my sig), and maybe post in its thread, then that would be good! | 2011-02-10 18:43:00 Author: Jonny_Segment Posts: 35 |
Queued for another run through! | 2011-02-10 18:49:00 Author: Aselrahc Posts: 185 |
I played your level a few times and here is what i think: The idea is great and the implementation nearly flawless: it's obvious a lot of tech was used for the timer, the grab/leave the passenger mechanic and the directioning, so big compliments for that. The level is very fun and addicting. The overall look is also very nice even though the map feels a bit small. I ran into a glitch in my last run where the arrow stopped working and simply kept turning in circles every time i picked a passenger but i guess it was something random. The car handling is fine even though i'm not a fan of the R1 L1 control scheme. Apart from these minor problems i really enjoyed your level and i definetely will try it again to improve my score. | 2011-02-19 11:59:00 Author: Vergil Posts: 155 |
Very good looking level: I like the level of detail you used on the houses and streets. Everything looks crisp and good. Cool that a lot of stuff moves when you bump into it. (And bump into stuff a lot I did, but that's probably due to my bad driving skills, more then the controls of the taxi). Good job! | 2011-02-21 19:33:00 Author: pickled-punk Posts: 598 |
Very, very nice. I'm not sure what else I can say that hasn't already been said really. The level looks good, plays goo and is fun. That's basically all you need. I found the "GPS" really impressive, although there were time where it would flip out and spin around. Usually after I crashed into a building, is this intentional? Good job! It certainly deserves more plays than it's getting. | 2011-02-22 20:56:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thanks for playing! I'm thinking of adding boost power-ups now if I can just balance them right. I left the spinny arrow in cos it kinda works as a punishment for crashing | 2011-02-23 20:35:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |
This is more fun then crazy taxI all day. I don't think anything is missing or needed, the only thing I found myself having to get used to was vehicular manslaughter... You run the passengers over to pick them up instead of waiting for them near them. Thanks for publishing! | 2011-03-01 02:02:00 Author: ocfury Posts: 5 |
Awesome cant wait to play as soon as i get on my ps3 | 2011-03-01 02:12:00 Author: tuyyui Posts: 175 |
it is awesome. I had great fun. Just get stuck between two houses once and had to restart :-/ But its not such a big deal. Just one thought - why are the destinations created from controlinators? It looks strange. Simple circle might look little bit better. And one idea for a soundrack. In the instruction section you call it the Radio stations? Why not to upgrade it to "full radio"? You know - instead of switching between soundracks, let player swith between sequencer,s that will contains both - Music and speach (gibberish is enough).- You can do one tation where the music will start near the end. When it finish, there will be short talking form the moderator and then new similar music will start. You can create another, where the moderator wil ltalk during music with vlume down. Or you can enev create whole chatting station where you will jsut switch between different voices (man/woman... you can even add some phone ringing tone to emulate calling person) to simulate some importnat news/discussion station :-D Im not sure how would that turn out as a result. But it might be worth a try. | 2011-03-01 09:31:00 Author: Agarwel Posts: 207 |
BTW - Im not sure how much thermo you have left, but please continue expanding your level. In my opinion if you will add posisbility to get out of the car and shoot - you should be able to easily script few GTA missions. Considering detials you already put into your city, it would be best GTA experience in the LBP so far. Even if the city remains of this size. | 2011-03-01 10:53:00 Author: Agarwel Posts: 207 |
Thanks for the feedback guys and Agarwel that radio station idea is fantastic!! I'm def gonna try and implement it even tho the thermo is nearly maxed out so including anything new involves deleting something else. I tried to include a boost but it keeps maxing out too... As for what your asking about the controlinators in the middle of the destination point I left them visible so when the passenger gets outta the car he/she is sucked into the controllinator which gives points. If the sackbot isn't in a controllinator the car can hit them and kill them which I didn't want... As far as a full on GTA goes once I can figure out how to get police cars chasing you well and convincingly I'll attempt it!! I do like free-roaming levels thats why I made this! | 2011-03-01 18:54:00 Author: Dangerlove Posts: 88 |
