Sackro Machines Championship (New track, July 2011!)

Archive: 26 posts

Oh hai! I've just published "Sackro Machines Championship", my homage to the awesome Micro Machines games of yesteryear!

If anyone played my Sackro Machines level in the beta, then it's basically a new version of that but with a hub level (where you select your tracks) and brand new circuits to race on. So far there's only one track, "Cabbage Patch Skids" which has you racing around a greenhouse... it's a pretty easy track to start things off. I'm hoping to get the time to keep building new tracks to add (depending on how popular it is).

I've been improving the way the racing works, so it should be miles better than the beta version. Please give it a go, and have fun! <3

Here's some delicious screenshots:

P.S. Don't be scared of Pericles... he wouldn't hurt a fly, promise

Yay! This looks fantastic. Loved in the beta and from the pictures this looks even better. Great idea making a hub for all the tracks too. Got this queued up and I'll be sure to give it a play (or 20) later tonight. 2011-02-01 17:23:00

Great level sir. Love levels that don't take themselves too seriously. Looking forward to more tracks!

Also, I'm positive I know your user name from somewhere. Probably from LBP1, but none of the levels sound familiar...I dunno lol.

Heh yeah, i'm Impossible quiz guy...

..anyways! Does the level link to the Greenhouse track seem to be working ok for everyone? I've used it in multiplayer a couple of times where the other person has been booted out of the game at the other end... just could be a coincidence though. Hmmm

Yeah, I had that problem once. Wouldn't let me invite them back in (for some reason I got a message saying the level had overhearted so other players couldn't join?) Restarted though and it was fine.

Anyway! Loved both levels, and I really can't wait to see more. It's nothing too complicated or mindblowing but I like the simple games where you cna just have fun, and that's exactly what this is. A few points of feedback though:

I think it would be better if the Greenhouse track was a normal level rather than a sub level. That way everyone will know when you've published a new track, bypass the hub level if they want to select a track quicker, and restart the same track multiple times nice and quickly. Still keep the links back to the hub level though.
The level link to the Greenhouse track is in the radius of a magic mouth. Pericles talks about lasagne or something and you can only press triangle to go through the link whilst the mouth is open, else it will keep opening the mouth. A small annoyance that could easily be fixed.
The track itself, whilst very good, could do with a little more warnings. The sharp bend after the first downwards section is quite sudden and unexpected, and I also kept crashing into the hose pipe near the end. Some arrows or something would be great so you know when to get ready for a corner and/or obstacles.

Other than that, great stuff!

I had a problem with the hose spraying me off the course several times. I think it's a wee bit too powerful.2011-02-02 00:01:00

Yeah I had that problem too, apart from that - it was awesome!

I crashed a hell of a lot though

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

I see what you're saying about publishing the tracks as normal levels. The original idea i had was, you choose tracks from the hub, race on them, then carry your points back to the hub so you can race on another track etc... until you've had enough. Then you stand on the scoreboard and see the overall winner. Unfortunately, points don't carry over to normal levels, which is a pain.

I fixed Pericles' speech getting in the way of the link, and I added a few warning symbols and arrows on the tight corner and hose bit. (It's easy to forget that other players don't know the layout as well as me )

Heh yeah it's meant to spray you off course if you drive through the wrong part

Loved the sequel to the beta level. Its unfortunate there is a hub level, the best thing that made me keep replaying Sackro 2 was that i was spawned right into the race track. ready to race my friends.2011-02-02 06:58:00

Just played it yesterday.
First I was a bit confused. One speech bubble to the other popped out and to my stupidity I clicked the right away. Then I didn't really know what I had to do: "Do I have to enter the Level Link?"
YES! I had to! I came in and knew this will be a lot of fun.
It looked great and the track was really well made.
What I didn't like is the camera position. You've got a great view up and on the left and on the right. But as soon as you drive down you have to have reactions in about 0,3 seconds. And I think it's more luck if you get through there without crashing than skills.
My suggestion: Trying to change the camera a bit for a better view to the bottom.
Or didn't I notice that you can change the camera with a button? If not, I would put that in! (changing to a local space camera by pressing a button)

To sum it up; I gave it a 'Yay'. Its fun to play anyway!

If you want to, you can check out my Music-Animation: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=47086-Animation-When-Stars-Are-Dancing...
Would be really glad for a little feedback!

LOL Cabbage Patch Skids! I played your beta level for what mustve been 5 times or more, with just some of my buddies online! Great fun, and the laughs never stopped. I was sad to see it go when the beta ended! Now this ones here, and Im exited to see what you do with the series now that the full game is out!

Ill queue it up today! (Snowdays FTW!)

P.S: Would you consider adding mario Cart Styled Power ups in the future? (Ex. Banana Peels, Homing missiles, Speed boosting Candy?)

Great new track! I really liked the little jumps and cereal box tunnels.

However, I still really think you should make each track a non-sub level. The only way anyone would know there's a new track in the game is if they read the level description. I think it's much better if they can see you've published a new track when browsing through your levels. You can't really rely on updates to keep people coming back to the same level.

Also, a suggestion/idea for your next track. As of now the winner is usually the one with experience on the track who doesn't crash and make mistakes. When someone gets in front they stay in front unless they go wrong. How about some more traps, moving obstacles etc to make it a bit more unpredictable? You could even trigger these by switches on the track, so players behind can drive over the them to create hazards for the player in front.

I've got to hand it to you, this is a really cool level. I played Micro Machines V3 a lot back in the day, and this level is so true to that game - the aesthetic style and theme of the tracks, the track layout, even the comedic names of the tracks all fit the Micro Machines formula. And did I mention that they're great fun to play? Great job on this one!

For one of your later tracks, you should do one of those table top ones from V3 - the restaurant themed tracks or the schooldesk - I can remember a science lab one too - they'd all make a great course. Or are you already working on one of those...?

Btw, do the points definitely not carry over from the sub-levels to the hub? I remember finishing the Cereal Drama track and having 1000 points upon re-entering the hub... while Nuclearfish has a somewhat valid point, if you can get it to work like you intended (Assuming you haven't already) I think you should keep the sub-levels as they are. I haven't really seen anyone else use level links like that yet, it's good that you're putting them to good use, and I like the fact you can choose from the tracks when you're in a party at the hub. It's just... a bit more interesting, and unique, like that.

Keep up the good work - I'm looking forward to your next track!

I played the first track when I saw this level first get published, and that was great fun (although I've had no one to play with yet ). I can't wait to have a go at this new track you've made! I'll give feedback on both tracks after playing them, since I want to refresh my memory a bit plus I can compare the tracks better. 2011-02-15 19:53:00

Played the new track last night, and I loved it! The details were great, and I liked how you could get stuck on the jam covering sections of the track. The greenhouse track was great too, especially the water obstacle before the finish line. Great charm and theme to both levels, and the comments made by the Sackbot guy who follows you are excellent. Can't wait to see what other tracks you've got in store. 2011-02-16 16:09:00

Ok, it's been a very very long time, but i'm back with a new Sackro Machines track!

This would have been out months ago, but my PS3 died, then the PSN went down and stuff just got in the way, so anyways... the new track is called Fatal Attraction and it's based in a Science lab! You might be able to figure out what the track's gimmick is by the name and the screenshots

It's not quite ready yet, but should hopefully be up sometime this week or next.

Hey.

Me and a friend tried to play your level a couple of days ago, but we had trouble connecting with each other. We joined together in the "lobby" area, but when we tried to enter one of the races, one of us got kicked. It may be because my internet is naff. Just letting you know anyway. I think I hearted your level aaaaaages ago anywho.
