How can I use the DCS to move one grid space at a time? | 2011-02-01 12:59:00 Author: xForrest Posts: 72 |
Can you be more specific please? There are several ways this might be accomplished, but it depends on what your needs and design are. For instance... your own grid or the create mode grid? Moving once per button press or moving in continuous, one-grid jumps? (etc.). | 2011-02-01 13:11:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
Yea okay the game is on a 25x25 grid, I need the controlled character to move one grid space per button press? | 2011-02-01 13:15:00 Author: xForrest Posts: 72 |
OK - So here's how I would pull this off (there may may be a MUCH better way - jess sayin&apos... Each grid square will have a tag in the exact center. Your cursor or object (vehicle, sackbot, whatever) will have a microchip on it that is also exactly centered. On that microchip will be 4 emitters - one each for up/down/left/right - connected to the DCS controls, and a Follower set to follow a specific tag color (very important). A one-shot set-reset counter is used to ensure that each button press is registered only once. The emitters will place a square of holo at or near the adjacent grid tags in the selected direction. These holo squares will once again have a microchip exactly centered. On that mc will be another follower (set to follow the grid tags) and a tag (different color than what's on the grid, but to match the follower on the cursor/vehicle). Set the lifetime of the emitted holo to a bit longer than the time it takes to move. Make sure that the outside radius on the vehicle's follower is wide enough to find the emitted holo squares. The inner radius on all the followers should be zero, so it lands very precisely. You may also want to add gyroscopes to ensure that everything stays properly aligned. So... You press a direction, an invisible square of holo is emitted in the grid square next to you and your vehicle is moved precisely over that position. You may need to tweak some of the settings. Perhaps add a timer on the DCS so that you can't press another direction until the prior move is complete. I hope this helps. If anyone comes up with a simpler solution, go for it! | 2011-02-01 13:42:00 Author: v0rtex Posts: 1878 |
